There is NO other channel on youtube that has put up tabla lessons in as good a fashion as you have. Not just that, the whole process is very efficient (subtitles along with you slowing down while playing). Plus, your explanation is very, very clear and the "teacher" in you is very likable. Thank you so much for all these videos! (Also, all the variations are very much appreciated! Thank you, thank you, thank you!)
@@TejSinghMusic Actually we need to say thanks to you sir!!! We look forward for some more classic Thalas ( rhythms)!!! Loads of love & respect with u sir!!👍👍❤
The sign of a good teacher is the ability to explain things in a clear and concise way and that is what you do, Sir. I was taught tabla years ago (before the internet and You Tube) and my teacher refused to discuss the "popular" tabla playing in film songs and bhajans etc. Your lessons have filled the gap. Thank you so much. You are an excellent tabla player and teacher. It would be good if, at some point, you could give analytic examples of how the taal, fillers etc.that you are teaching us here are used in a complete song. This would be great for the 'big picture' of how to play for song/bhajans. Thanks again for your excellent teaching.
Thanks for kind words. In old time, that was the trend not to teach Kehrawa, Dadra & Rupak at early stage. in 20th Century, lots of changes happend in our everyday life.. Very few Students have patience, time to learn Kaydas and Parans, Teehai. I teach Light Musical first then Classical. i personally believe if student loose interest in learning music, its failure for Teacher & Student. i will upload video for full song, bhajan soon. more like a practical demonstration.. Happy Learning!
Tej Singh I agree that it is better to teach light music first because that is what people hear most of their lives and some may desire to learn more and move on to classical music. Many of my friends knew I played tabla and once at big party I was surprised when they produced a tabla set and demanded that I accompany them while they sang songs. None of them knew anything about taal etc. so I did what I could, but as I was not taught how to accompany light music it was not quite right and people said that they could see I could play, but it was no good. I think quite a few tabla students experience this. When people know you play tabla, they expect you to play light music because that is all most people know, so I am not surprised that students lose heart after lots of kaiyda (etc.) practice without applying it to something like a song/bhajan . I wish I had your lessons back then as they would have made a big difference to my confidence. Tabla players are more likely to be asked to play light music than classical so it is good that you teach that first as it builds confidence. Thank you again for your generosity in imparting your knowledge and I look forward to seeing the full songs and bhajans with explanations.
Hello Tamoor.. i will suggest 1) Practice some Kayda specialliy Ajrada Gharana 2) there are some Kaydas to make left hand stronger 3) Learn under guidance of Teacher.. Happy learning

Baljinder Singh Tej Singh Jee I saw your video for fast keherawa/dugun. There are only 6 bols for keherawa, I think there Are some pause in between. I always have trouble playing 8 bols dugun, especially With simran Thanks Baljinder
Your video is excellent and very helpful for me to teach myself from your great RUclips videos, thank you for sharing. I did have a private teacher to teach me as a beginner to understand fully of the different notes and practising hand movements of hitting the different notes on different areas of the top drums. I start to gradually adapt playing my tabla drums and gets slightly easier within time. I am trying to watch your fingers where you hit the 'TA' sounds very similar to the 'NA' note, if you know what I mean? Written 'TA GAE THIN NA ; DHIN NA'.
Hi thanks for liking videos. for beginners I make their learning easier by saying taa and naa is same, almost same. also when play teehais we play Dha as dhin to give more resonance. Those advanced tricks need to be taught by teacher.
Tej singh Ji , thanks again for your kindness, pls see below links and kindly explain / reveal the beats, thanks in advance Sai Bhajan - Govinda Bolo Gopala Bolo Sai Bhajan - Mahadeva Maheshwara Sai Narayana Giridhara Govinda Gopala
Hi Karthik all these lessons are based on Dadra - 6 Beats. please see my video "Tabla Lesson - Dadra " for how to accompany all these bhajans. I Sing Govinda Bolo & Girdhara Govinda. too . if time permit, i will upload videos myself singing but without Tabla Beats. so you and others can practice accompaning Tabla with bhajans
Namaste Tej Ji. Thank you for all your valuable lessons. I just wanted to ask that the fast beat that you showed after 10th minute, Is it not a 6 beat cycle? I am confused. I am learning tabla on my own by watching videos on youtube. I am practicing Dadra taal at the moment.
Lesson 17 kawali and fast beats mast bahut acchha laga mai sangit premi hu kash mere bajume ho te to mai aapake jaisa expert banata bad luck kya karu samaj nahi aata
