    Your garden is beautiful....I love the climbing snapdragons and Blue Moon Wisteria. The bench your husband made is gorgeous! The Irish Moss in between the stones that make up the walkway looks like something from a fairytale book....It is so lovely! Thank you so much for sharing!

    So gorgeous. Love hearing the birds and seeing all the little critters. I took an old pie plate and lined the inside with marbles. The bees love it, just enough water but don't drown. I used glue that wouldn't hurt the bees or birds, sometimes I see the birds bathing in them. Thank you sharing...

      Thank you so much Paul! That means a lot to me. I am getting more and more into the art of videography. But, this new hobby does steal away time from getting my hands dirty in the garden. I am addicted to your channel. I've watched a number of your videos more than once and read every single blog post in your archives! I want to try seed starting in a milk jug this winter. I'm just wondering what other seeds can be started this way as I don't have grow lights to do indoor seed sowing m

    • @RosannesGarden
      @RosannesGarden  3 года назад +1

      @@allenlebo Hi Allen! I'm so pleased you have been inspired by my blog and videos. I love gardening and I really wanted to share our garden with others. It seems like such a waste to have it just to ourselves, and the occasional visitor.
      The milk jug video was one of my first videos. In hindsight, I probably could have included more information. Not knowing your growing zone, I cannot say with certainty which plants might work best. But...a general rule of thumb is that any plant that is perennial in your growing zone can be "winter sown". In other words, plants that need winter to rest and reproduce. Their seeds, in nature, need to be exposed to cold temperatures for six, or eight weeks or more. It's called cold "stratifcation" For me, that would be Asters, Delphinium, Columbine, Scabiosa, Turtle head plant, Verbena, Rudbeckias, Liatris, Monarda, and more. What won't work, are annual plants such as Impatiens or Zinnias. I have found that the most successful plants are those that are native to your area. This year I am ordering seeds from Prairie Moon Nursery, a Wisconsin company.
      Thanks for being such an avid follower! I do appreciate it and knowing that what I am doing is having a positive impact.
      Yours in gardening,
      Rosanne

    What a gorgeous garden! Lovely video, as always. Please do a video when you start the annual vines by seed -- to remind me to do the same and to show me how you do it. I'm in 5b so I imagine it's about the same time as you.

    I love your garden. I just took possession of a very large property and the garden is a bit of a disaster. I have been working like crazy to get a jump on next spring. I bought a couple of things. One is a winter berry, and it’s just beautiful. I love a winter garden. The other is an espalier apple tree. I love these new additions. I feel like a new mother. All I want to do is stare at them. Your garden is so beautiful. When I watch your videos, I know there is hope for my garden. ☮️💕

      Greetings neighbor! I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos. I do indeed love mixing up trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and ground covers to give a very full, layered effect. Plus, I love surprising garden guests with unexpected combinations of natives and exotics. What fun! We have opened our garden for tours in the past; not sure what the future holds.
      Yours in gardening.

    I never tire of touring your garden. Thank you. What is the tall yellow flower you have tied up just over your shoulder and behind the morning glory? We had masses of it in beds when we lived in the country but I can’t remember it’s name. So reliable and cheerful.

      Thank you Jennifer! Those lovelies originally came from my Grandmother's garden. They are Golden Glow Rudbeckia (Rudbeckia laciniata 'Hortensia'). They are easy to divide, so I now have them growing in four different areas of our garden. They're good for cut flowers too.

    The garden looked enchantingly beautiful in this tour. You certainly have an eye for where to place things. I was excited to see your spilled wine weigela pruned into tidy shapes ( if indeed I was looking at the correct plant). Mine are youngish plants and they look kind of open. I would like them to fill out and create a fuller, bushier shrub. Do you have any pruning strategies for creating the look yours have?

    • @RosannesGarden
      @RosannesGarden  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Jim! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. As to the spilled wine weigela, I prune them with a hedge shears to get them into the shape I want. I do not worry about cutting at nodes. Normally, we prune almost everything in March - but not these. I prune in July after they are done flowering.
      If they are getting enough sun, I'm sure they will fill in just fine.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!
