    The best thing about a laptop stand is that the screen is lifted up to a better height. It's a much more pleasant experience, and will result in less neck strain.

      Yes, they're a must have for long durations.

    I'd just gotten a stand for my work's business laptop (work from home), because the cooler for the i5-8350U sounded like a vacuum cleaner, the very least it's quietened it down now air can actually get under it. would've liked to see some noise and temperature figures

    I wonder how much more performance you would get if you had one of those laptop stands with those build in fans on them, think that would make a nice video too :)

    Great to know i don't really need the stand for my laptop. Daily driver is still a desktop, however I do use my laptop as a server for minecraft and also for some light gaming during my desktop is busy with long renders.

    Good info! I'm finishing up a similar project, but I modified the cooler to run 12V fans off of USBPD pins. We'll know soon just how far you can get with brute force lol.
    I rcently got a Precision workstation for work. It has a 45W i9 11950H and a Quadro T1200 GPU. According to HWINFO the max TDP for the T1200 is 95W and I believe it. The machine gets uncomfortably hot within a matter of minutes when plugged into it's 330W brick and set to "Ultra-Performance Mode". It noticeably throttles while runners compite tasks you don't change the default power profile.

    Temperature need time to build up by heat
    Longer workload then the laptop and the surface below get warm then then different is showed

    Now you should add in an actively cooled stand. Or a few different actively cooled stands, as some do perform better (or worse) than others. And by worse I mean that some can produce negative results. This of course will depend on the laptop itself, due to how the air is pulled in, and how the flow of the stand affects it.

    I've stupidity been running my laptop flat on my desk for 2 years. It's 20 c cooler propped up. I'm getting 30+ more fps on most of my games now.

    I use an old-school laptop forced-air cooler. basically it's a tray that the laptop sits on that has fans built in forcing air from the sides & bottom of the tray through the bottom of the laptop, and those fans draw power from a USB port. Old thing from the mid 2000's.

    If you would want to make a similar video in the future then there's a few things I would want you to look at.
    1. Fan noise.
    2. Comparison between different fan speeds.
    3. Longer benchmark that stresses the CPU and GPU to look at the sustainable performance.
    I think there can be two questions that can be answered.
    a) can I get similar performance as keeping the laptop on desk for much less noise?
    b) can a laptop stand help keep the laptop at full tilt for longer periods of time?

    I propped up my M16 on the steepest grade on the stand so the laptop is almost vertical.That way i can push the screen at its furthest back, my idea is that it can help divert the exhaust at the back from hitting the bottom part of the screen

    I watched a presentation from a CLEVO engineer and he spent some time discussing coolongm Youd be surprised how much R&D goes into the cooling solution.... especially the back cover of the laptop which doubles as an air duct.

  • @steveco1800
    @steveco1800 2 года назад +1

    I partially open the screen and stand my laptop vertically, with a USB-C dock to a monitor. Keeps it much quieter. Then when traveling I use the power brick to prop up the back. Gaming with it directly on a table gets way too loud in demanding games.

    What about temps/frequency improvement? I know they'll be specific to this laptop but in the review for example you mentioned the keyboard deck being too hot. does it change when its propped up like that?

    • @TechteamGB
      @TechteamGB  2 года назад +2

      Great point, I should have included that! Yes, the keyboard temps did improve to the point it was bearable (and got worse on the blanket), although the performance ends up telling the majority of the story thanks to the dynamic clock speeds of both the CPU and GPU.

    • @TechteamGB
      @TechteamGB  2 года назад

      I should have talked specifically about that in the video, but the reason it was omitted was that, thanks to the dynamic clock speeds, the temperatures were functionally identical, only the performance changed.

    you should of focus on temperature instead of performance................ temperature is crucial on gaming laptop more so than performance, running lifted would be so much better for breathing air in
