I really needed this today. Today was a big "freak out" day for a lot of Ghost fans (me included) because Papa IV very likely performed his last ritual. Not 100% confirmed but Tobias has hinted at Papa IV being finished after this tour cycle, which officially ended for them in Australia today. And Papa IV did say at the show that it would be his last one. A lot of us were worried that Tobias was going to have something bad happen to Papa IV, but nothing did so it likes it'll be a peaceful transfer (hopefully) to whoever comes next. That's what I love about Ghost. You can just listen to and enjoy their music and get excited for whatever they're releasing next or do a complete deep dive into their lore as well and get just as excited for what comes next there.
This song has one of the best openings of any ghost songs -- if you're not screaming along with Papa, you're probably asleep. And I love the prophetic line, "the righteous dogma that hides the Handmaid's Tale" that so perfectly describes what's going on in the US over the past few years.
Reno was the first show of the (pre) Impera tour in January 2022. COVID restrictions were still in place in a lot of locations. I saw the Seattle show the day after Reno (they had fixed the curtain). This song is a great show (and album) opener. Its angry, and reflects Tobias's frustrations with the Church's past and still lingering issues today - note the mention of the Bishop's Choir Boys.
This past lineup was honestly my favorite. Kaisarion is a perfect opener with the energy and fast pace to really kick off the show and ends with Square Hammer which is still the best closer. Cannot change my mind.😂
Impera is about the rise and fall of empires. The album starts off with Imperium and Kaisarion which both starts the story of one empire who has fallen and the rise of a new. You then follow the story through the songs and the pictures in the booklet to the last song Respite on the spitalfields which then starts over it all again. Tobias thinks that history repeats itself in cycles and the album is his description of how we never learn and makes the same mistake over and over again.
Although, it's also about the Church's persecution of someone they labeled as a witch because of her teachings and intelligence... Murdered her actually.
I mean this to be a compliment for Tobias Forbes, his song writing is up there with steven king and Anne Rice, weird but the most intelligent captivating writing where not only does he take you on a journey paints a picture like his songs are stories in them selves
Tobias did the scream similar to Roger Daltry. He really would've liked Roger to do it. This song is about Hypatia, a pagan scholar, of Alexandria where Christian zealots murdered her and dismembered her.
Such a great opener. You did a great live research, so most of the story has been told. So happy that you're looking into some of the older stuff. It's different music for a somewhat smaller stage, but it's still Ghost.. And as you mentioned. If you hear what the song is about, you can recognize it 's a Ghost song 🙂 Happy listening, and as always.. looking forward to the next 🤘 PS: hope you didn't lose "Twenties" from your list 😉
New! Cool official soundtrack! On October 1, the premiere of a stunningly beautiful OST video for the song “Baikal” took place on Diana Ankudinova’s RUclips channel. The soundtrack performed by Diana became the main musical theme of the film “The Spirit of Baikal,” which will be released in wide release on October 19, 2023. In the film itself, Diana voiced two roles - the spirit of Lake Baikal and the voice of the soul of the deceased mother of the main character of the film. The film received several top awards at film festivals. Baikal is the deepest, oldest, freshwater lake on Earth (22-23 percent of all fresh surface water), it is a place of power, the spiritual center of shamans, different religions - Shamanism , Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, a pristine place not yet touched by civilization. DIANA ANKUDINOVA | Baikal (OST 'Spirit Of Baikal')
The song has great energy and good lyrics, note how the verses are from the christian perspective of those that murdered hypatia, and the rest is the anti-christian perspective (the bishops with choir boys en suite line is a dig at pedo catholics). Only bad parts is calling hypatia an apostate, which means a person who renounces a religious belief or principle. Her murder was prob partially political, but she didnt renounce anything, she seems to have been pagan from birth to unfortunate dead. Great reaction all around, and lovely u are doing more ghost
