It's like it was meant to be turned on during the work hours, but the man in charge simply forgot to when he got their because he himself was not feeling up to tee anymore with his work. When he finally realized he forgot, he tried to turn it on and see if people would appreciate. But even that didn't seem to help anyone anymore. So silently, he turned it back off after seeing that no mater what everything was hopeless. And then everyone just continues on their day like normal...
After listening to this for years, I finally figured out that it sounds like there's a wooden/steel bat being smashed against something over and over. Christ that's brutal.
Well even after years of listening you still haven’t gotten it right. Something definitely involves a constant hitting force but I wouldn’t say that the hitting object is wooden or the force of a bat. Nor would I say that the thing being hit is anything “living” unless of course the living thing is already mashed into a pulp to the point that once it’s getting hit the hard iron floor (or if we’re going by the strange imagery appearing in my mind, a railroad track or metal operating table) then hell yeah it’s messed up. But I think the hitter is something else entirely, even with the context of batter being in the scenes, I would not say that it sounds anything near a bat.
I’ve thought about this quite a bit, and I honestly think that OFF might be one of the creepiest game I’ve ever played. I think it’s because of the fact that it’s NOT meant to be a flat out horror game at all, and obviously not a happy, cheery game either. It’s vague, confusing, abstract, uncertain. I think the game really lives up to its title, because that’s exactly how it all feels. You just can’t really describe it, and that’s what feels so unsettling: it’s all just… OFF.
I've finished Still wakes the deep, dead space 1 & 2 felt like a joyride more than horror, I was interested more in the philosophical questions of SOMA. But I couldn't finish the room in OFF, that place scares the living hell out of me
@@auroragamer1 Oh don’t worry, Yume Nikki is my favorite game of all time! But it gives me more of a comforting feeling than OFF, maybe because I relate and can see myself in YN more.
The encounter with the Critic Burnt definitely marks a major turning point in the progression of OFF's storyline. Up to this point, your actions have been more or less justified; you've only fought enemies who provoked you first and/or had the intention of killing you, and given that most players haven't yet revisited the purified zones, a majority of players will be blissfully unaware of the true effects of the Batter's holy mission and simply assume that since this is a video game, your quest is one of righteousness and justice. Sure, the Batter may be colder and less empathic than your standard video game hero, but that doesn't change the fact that he's the good guy, right? Then you're slapped in the face with this encounter. A long, drawn-out encounter where you mercilessly beat a pleading, desperate man to death for no other reason than the fact that he's in your way. You don't attempt to find another solution; you don't attempt to flee; you don't attempt to reason; you purify. For at this point, that is all the Batter cares about. And you *will* help him in that pursuit... won't you?
If only I had 10 divisions of these men! There's a time and a place for everything, and sometimes you have to kill that goddamn puppy. Don't you understand?
the critic burnt encounter terrified me so much i actually didnt realize that he wasnt attacking me until someone else pointed it out and it made me feel terrible
This battle and Hugos were some of the hardest in the game (speaking in terms of emotionally hard) since these characters dont fight back, they dont attack, they just stand there. The elsen here is literally begging for help and you have no other option but to kill him in order to continue your quest of "purification". This part of the game really makes you start to question even more if the batter is really a good guy
This game was like a strange fever dream, very dark. Why can't there be more games like OFF anymore? It's so very unique, I have to give credit where it's due..
All the random crackling static and white noise in this track and all the disjointed bits of a tune trying to come in kind of reminds me of listening to stage 6 of Everywhere At The End Of Time... makes it even more unsettling
I think this could be Hugo breathing in a hospital. and someone maybe bought him a music box or a record and tried to play it for him but it was broken
If you listen to this on high volume with good headphones, you can hear some sort of odd "clicking" that sounds really close to your ears... And then weird breathing... Eeeggghh I don't like it...
A lot of tracks have this odd "clicking." Feels like some old recorded song, with those noises of bad quality... yet this noise is weirdly timed with the beats, if fits into the music so well, but it's so disturbing and unusual at first. Never heard static noise and clicking used in music before... not like I'm an expert, but regardless, it's interesting at least
+onefinezombie Headcanon is merely an identifying term. Honestly, I think the OFF fandom deserves some more voice dubs. How would anyone do those without voices? I'm sorry for trying to narrow it down to a simpler term. Have a nice day. I'm going to go enjoy my life without allowing your hate to drag me down.
+onefinezombie I'm sure you have a perfectly valid reason to tear people down because you don't like what they do. Maybe people give you a lot of shit, too. I'm not really sure.
As melancholic is it is, I find this track to be very calming. Sounds a lot like Field Recordings. Just look up Fluxion - Spaces, and you'll hear some major similarities.
"Yesterday was better" And the day before Yesterday was better And the day before that was better. And the day before that was better. And the day before that was better. And the day before that was better. .....
Caretaker started in the 90s, though that was back when it was a The Shining fan project. This game came out in 2007 I think. Even then, I doubt Leyland has ever heard of this game so it's definitely a coincidence.
I can kind of hear a leitmoteif from Fourteen Residents in the battle theme for the critic-burnt, when it is slowed down. Am i alone on that retrospect?
Such a sad song. It tries to get optimistic at 1:34, then it just... gives up.
Just like my life

LIKE THE BATTER
After listening to this for years, I finally figured out that it sounds like there's a wooden/steel bat being smashed against something over and over. Christ that's brutal.
I didn't notice that.... OAO
It sounds like he's walking among a metal fence and hitting the bars in between
i thought it sounded like a train going over tracks, because yk, its a metro
Sounds like he's hitting something metal, though, not fleshy.

You might be interested in Yume Nikki as well, then

That was actually my headcanon voice for them when I was trying to come up with the Elsen voices.
