    See how to swap the body shells between APT Non-Driving Motor or NDMs. If you purchased multiple extra NDMs, this is a helpful guide as you will need to swap the chassis if the 7-car APT set comes with a dummy (non-motorized) NDM. If you are swapping the dummy NDM, you will likely need to keep the pantograph from the 7-car set as it will possibly be different.

    Thanks for that ! As yo8 alluded to in your video this will be a useful reference for people such as myself as I’ve got the seven car version coming which has a dummy NDM. As I’ll have a helix in my railway, I’ve also purchased a separate powered NDM and I’m going to body swap this with the dummy NDM that will come with the seven car (whenever it eventually turns up !). I’ve already got the NDM (and a buffet coach pack), looking forward to the arrival of the rest of it ! Happy New Year, I look forward to seeing more of your videos in 2022.

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I have two new APT videos coming out, one later this afternoon and another later in the week showing how impressive it really is running on the layout. Stay tuned! :)

    Hi have ever thought about doing a cab ride video

    • @Oorail
      @Oorail  2 года назад

      I have a few cab ride videos on the channel, it'll be pretty difficult to do with the APT, but what I will be doing shortly is one of those high speed chase, follow and pan videos that I did for the HST and the APT-E previously. If you are interested in unique camera angles and filming ideas, stay tuned because of I have something really cool in the pipeline... :)

    Great tutorial on the APT .hopefully I won’t need to open mine when it comes but you never know.
    With the pantograph are hornby making both types
    With your APT have you had any problems with the bogies being bent I’ve seen a few online that aren’t straight.

      Thanks Oliver! It looks like Hornby are making both the Early Pantograph and the High Speed Pantograph. They have both listed in their Class 370 Advanced Passenger Train operating and maintenance instructions. Its on the back page, section 5 Figure.10 and Figure 11. The APT 5-car pack and the spare motorized NDM (Sc49004) have the early pantographs. I suspect that the APT 7-car set will have the High Speed Pantograph. The Pantograph looks like its just on one piece so it should be very easy to swap out. I'm hoping both NDMs are motorized in the 7-car set, but I suspect one might be a dummy. None of the bogies on the APT are bent. I have two sets, this one you've seen running on the layout and the ones that go with the 7-car set, none of them are bent. I also have a spare TU set that I bought in case my capacitor removing experiment went sideways, and those are also OK. I suspect there may have just been a bad batch assembled maybe?

    did you look at getting the red clip that connects the bogie to the frame 3D printed, both of mine has snapped.

      Yes I am currently testing out three different replacement designs. The part is used to keep the gearing in place in the motor, so its important to make sure the metal pieces still fit and operate as originally designed in the replacement part. The clip and peg part is normally easy, but with the tilt mechanism, doing some testing to make sure it doesn't break or mess up the tilt. One interesting thing is that I had one of the Hornby ones break while testing, so I suspect this maybe a bigger design issue. You will probably need a filament / FDM printer, resin is going to be more brittle that the plastic Hornby uses. I am currently testing with PLA, PETG and some hyrbird-PLA materials. One of the issues is that the "flexibility" of the materials are different, so the peg design they use is not always a straight like for like replacement.

      @@Oorail cheers for the reply, currently waiting for a reply from hornby regarding the broken part on the set received yesterday. i hope you manage to find a way round this issue and let us know via a video and are able to sell them.

      @@bart10180 Hornby support seem to be pretty swamped. They are taking upwards of 2 weeks to respond to basic stuff. I have not heard from their support about the part. Simon is aware there is an issue with that part and the packaging in the 7-car and 5-car packs. I think they chalked mine up to bad luck originally, but given the number of DMs, emails and comments I have heard asking about it, I suspect its a wider issue, plus you have all the folks who haven't opened the box! Once I get it sorted, I'll upload a video.

    So you have three running NDMs, or two running and one dummy?

    • @Oorail
      @Oorail  2 года назад

      I've got three running NDMs, one from the 5-car pack and two motorized NDMs (Sc49004), as I bought one for the 5-car pack and one to motorize the dummy from the 7-car pack. Whenever Hornby ships out the 7 car packs, I should have five NDMs in total, four motorized and one dummy.
