This opener will forever be one of my all-time favorites from any DCI show. Vivaldi's Four Seasons Spring for front ensemble was such a wonderful idea, and they pulled it off so skillfully! Love it!
I saw a comment saying scv's drums and Carolina crowns brass together would be unstoppable and I just wanted to put that out there cause it would be the best
this honestly in my opinion would be the best thing to ever do in dci... being able to hear the rest of the corps behind you and playing this beautiful music. what a show😭

I haven't always been the biggest fan of SCV, but I have been a fan since Les Miserables. But this show is fantastic. I saw it in Warrensburg, MO and it blew me away. I love the birds chirping, I love the way the opener makes you think about Spring. I think it's great. Fantastic.
Hunter Johnson and what exactly has vanguard done to make you not be a fun? Because they don't follow the path of the coats or devils? Or were you just making an ignorant comment?
The ignorant comment here is yours for assuming that everyone finds the same shows you do fun. Vanguard were for quite some time a very conservative corps when it comes to show design and if you watch videos of shows from before 2013 you'd probably understand that better. Honestly I'm not a major fan of their current stuff either outside of the pit writing, but I certainly won't call you ignorant for enjoying their shows as much as you want to. Grow the fuck up.
This is from your Upper Darby rehearsal the day of the Chester Show! I was there. Definitely won't forget that speech you all got about the kind of crowd you see at Allentown.
Ashley Garvin It IS so fun to play. There's a transcription that you can view for free on MuseScore with the full marimba parts in there. Im learning the ballad for fun and it's so gorgeous
just a question does anyone one know what the center marimba has a traditional grip in her left and a Stevens in right I'm a pit person but I'm just really curious
It really increases the speed you can play at and your hand eye coordination. I played 4 mallets back in high school and it was a challenge at first but once you start to get used to the callus then you're fine and it starts to be really fun
Brandon Cummings You have inspired me so much. I’ve watched this over 1000 times and have learned most of the ballad and a lot of the Winter part. Stupidly geeky i know and kind of weird but this is, just how couldn’t this inspire you.
does anyone know what kind of bird whistles they used? i know there are some toys that can do it, but i wasn’t sure if they were hunting whistles or a specific kind
Im pretty sure the center uses Burton in her right hand. Obviously because of her missing finger. Trad would be too difficult with four fingers because you really need the two fingers at the crossing point and the middle finger in the midle to stabilize it. Also its an inferior grip especially for this type of stuff. Look closely at other videos its preeeettty obvious lol. Burton is easier because its just like holding 2 mallets with the extra mallet added on top and in between the index and middle. Idk why everyone thinks she uses trad
I don't mean to be a stickler for technique but the part of his mallet 1 and 4 that sticks out needs to be significantly less than what was sticking out. The technique is supposed to be 1/8th of an inch.

same. when my friends ask what a good front sounds like i show them this
My band played this but easier for this year

Eyoel Abera I'm in pit (Not DCI), and it's amazing hearing everything as I'm playing.
Emily S. oh yah i can tell even as a trombone/baritone i still respect all other sections and enjoy
Eyoel Abera i play trombone:)
It really is though. 😁
But scratch that... I'm now with vanguard and getting to perform Babylon has been life changing.. 💚❤️

I believe at 9:28 is Vivaldi's Winter movement from Four Seasons (?)
I believe the closer is Dreams of Fireflies
You didn’t get enough credit for making this 😩 good job man this was great! Also you seem very interesting and cool, hope things are going well?
I'm pretty sure there were plenty of octaves in oroborous..
I always thought in the very beginning electronics just played like a forest sounds loop or something never would have thought of bird whistles lol
The sound of the Bergerault marimbas makes my day. It's so articulate.
I haven't always been the biggest fan of SCV, but I have been a fan since Les Miserables. But this show is fantastic. I saw it in Warrensburg, MO and it blew me away. I love the birds chirping, I love the way the opener makes you think about Spring. I think it's great. Fantastic.

this wasn't a performance, just a rehearsal run at a practice. At actual DCI shows, the crowd loses their shit.

THANK YOU, FINALLY SOMETHING THAT ISN'T METAMORPH
I’d just like to say that I love this video and watch it many times every year
Even though im a snare player, this video made me want to learn four mallet grip and do pit, which I did. It was a blast!
Fantastic book and playing. This is great!
I'm mesmerized by this!! I wish one of our shows was this cool!!!
2019 and it’s still my all time favorite show
i a mallet player in my junior year in highschool, and i must say, this is awesome.
The "Dut dut dut dut" at 2:51 makes it sound better lol
bravo! this is really amazing to watch from this vantage point!
Love the bit at 7:09 :) i watched this whole video like 20 times. Great show!
Such a beautiful show
i live for this marimba part lmfao
fuck that chord at 07:15 gets me everytime
It sends chills down a spine haha
Kristopher Phillips true. Their ballad is one of the most gorgeous arrangements I've heard. Ever.
This is from your Upper Darby rehearsal the day of the Chester Show! I was there. Definitely won't forget that speech you all got about the kind of crowd you see at Allentown.
That intro is basically marimba blast beats
Oh I love SCV
This is an outstanding piece of music!
Only the 466252416374873rd time I've watched this....
This is amazing. Truly incredible. (Love the snare break at about 3:30 - so clean!)
yo i was there in upper Darby during this i was blown away! love SCV so much
I can’t imagine how the score looked for that opening
This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
That cymbal rack looks pretty cool
Awesome! Thanks for posting!
This show gives me life
Those marimbas are absolutely beautiful
Nothing short of greatness.
absolutely great, would have been perfect seeing it live!!!
lollll at the consider the birds reference at 3:29
Glad someone caught that haha
Didn’t know the pit had bird flutes those are such a cool touch
Just stepped up to four mallets woohoo!
I cannot explain my love for this??
Bro what were those mallets at 3:30
That’s the second weirdest looking mallet I’ve ever seen the first is mallets with plastic bags on them
6:40 looks like so much fun to play... so jealous.
Ashley Garvin It IS so fun to play. There's a transcription that you can view for free on MuseScore with the full marimba parts in there. Im learning the ballad for fun and it's so gorgeous
SilverTheFlame i could not find it do you think you could link it?
SilverTheFlame thank you so much

Absolutely amazing👏🏼👏🏼👌🏿💪🏿
>picks up four mallets
>rolls on a suspended with inner 2
>puts all four away
...lol?
My guess is that its for uniformity across the marimbas, as not all of them had crash cymbals
just a question does anyone one know what the center marimba has a traditional grip in her left and a Stevens in right I'm a pit person but I'm just really curious
Catrina Blair What part of the show?
IIRC one of the SCV mallet players is missing a finger, I think it's her.
Yeah, the center marimba is missing a finger, so she has to use two different grips to compensate for that hand
Shes burton i believe...
I was the 1000th like!
I liked the single independence at 9:00
My favorite part is at 6:00
2 Mallet Section Omg
That’s Brandon Cummings and he’s my percussion director
Beautiful!
This is amazing
Our school legit play their first movement but we played it in key of E flat and we used bird whistles 2🤦🏽♂️
I hope I’ll be able to play my board like this some day 😂
tonight is the dress rehearsal for that performance
god I LOVE marimba
This is my percussion teacher😂
mind blowing....
6:40 reminds me so much of the 2012 ballad
Scv is by far the BEST corps for percussion (but what are we fooling around for, scv is the best corps)
What is the song at 9:28?? I love it so much omg
vivaldi winter
What does a summer of playing four mallets every day do for your playing just out of curiosity?
It really increases the speed you can play at and your hand eye coordination. I played 4 mallets back in high school and it was a challenge at first but once you start to get used to the callus then you're fine and it starts to be really fun
The pit is the main reason they got 1st on percussion, actual no offense to battery but holy MOLY this is so cleaaaaannnnnnnnn
i love this show....its so awesome.....just curious do you still have the music for this
You can look of the transcription on RUclips. There is one that has most of the show transcribed posted by Joseph Vasquez.
Ohh ok cool
You guys have a hot drum major!! Damn
What's the little cord coming out the top of the splash cymbal for?
Absolutely nothing! It's some weed eater line we found at a housing site.

Does anyone know what series these mallets come from?
Sandi Rennick
+Jon Maynard Thank you!
Johm Maynard chases me from school to here 😅
lol this marimba has four more keys than mine at school
What is the first piece of the show? Just wondering
An arrangement of Max Richter's Recomposition of Seasons, Spring.
+Jon Maynard👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 thanks man!
Yes
will anyone be able to transcribe the beginning for me and a friend . we want to play the beginning it one of our concerts . thank you ~ Steven
There's a channel, Joseph Vasquez, that has transcribed a good chunk of the show
Which mallets do you switch to at 6:35? Thanks. Great Playing!
that drum major is hot
What mallets are you using? I love the way they sound!
Jacob Sallee they use the Sandi Rennick series
such skill
I play Snare, so I have no clue but at 7:12 did he tick? I think they were supposed to be 16th Notes. Or maybe it was a roll, I have no idea...
What are the set of bells on the top called?
How do you learn to play so fast with the inside independents like that.
PhazonArcanine4 Simple combination of building up chops and relaxing
Whats the sheet music for the pre-show lmfao
what marimba do you use
What's up with the birds?
What pieces areall of these?
Why does it sound like if Mozart wrote a piece for a percussion ensemble
6:08 to 8:01 is god tier
6:05
3:17 what kind of mallets are those?
How does one get the sheet music for such a piece? (marimba of course)
heres a link to the whole pit part (marimba included of course)

Ay this is my teacher
What model of Marimba is this?
Noah Goulet they use Bergerault marimbas
Is there a reason why there's open pipes in the sharps & flats that don't have any bars on top of them?
It's more aesthetically pleasing, from the audience perspective.
5 month question to answer but, they're resonators to enhance the sounds of the sharps and flats
9:14 wow
My question is, I don't remember him ever making a mistake, did he?
This camera view is definitely from a player named Brandon Cummings, who most definitely is a guy.
I don't mean to be a stickler for technique but the part of his mallet 1 and 4 that sticks out needs to be significantly less than what was sticking out. The technique is supposed to be 1/8th of an inch.
he meant mistakes on notes and rhythm
well we wouldn't know unless we either
A. Wrote the music,
B. Have the music,
C. Are Brandon Cummings.
