Every so often here in Florida I do come across Plomb tools. I recently found a Plomb Model 5449 ratchet in a tool box haul I bought. Nice to see other fans out there.
I just got one in an ebay lot of combo wrenches and it stands out.. thick beam, cool logo PLVM, great textured finish.. I'd say that they are worthy wrenches for modern use if you need SAE sizes and want a detour from mirror-finish chrome
I only collect Plomb ratchets, but have a few dozen other Plomb tools I need to send to a good friend in Calif. Years ago when I used the name PLOMBTOOLMAN on eBay I sold one fellow 143 Plomb tools. I also have 2 large Plomb tool boxes that will be also going to Calif. I do have a plomb 1/4 inch drive socket set and box in the 1939 to 1945 year range. They are not the WF military WW2 Plomb tools. I don't collect P&C brand tools that were owned by Plomb, but I live close to where the factory use to be and have close to 450 of them. I have one NOS socket that is marked both Plomb & P&C. I also have several double marked Plomb / Proto tools. One Plomb tool I am sorry I sold was a Plomb Torque wrench I got in 1970 and sold about 20 years ago. I also like and collect Proto tools and have 72 of their pear head ratchets. My good friend does not collect Plomb tools, he uses them in his antique car / truck wrecking yard he started in 1953 and still runs 68 years later. My friend they were ment to be used, not stuck on a wall to be looked at.
That is amazing! It's very impressive your friend is still running his business 68 years later! Wow! And I completely agree! I do enjoy the hunt and the connecting of the tools, but I get the most satisfaction out of using them all the time! If you ever decide to part with any more of those Plomb tools that your friend doesn't want, send me an email! Haha
I don't know how to send a picture of them to you on this. I will try to fig something out. I have 4 double open end wrenches,5 sockets (3 3/8-2 1/2") 3/8 breaker bar
The wrench at about 10:20 is called a crow foot wrench. The tie rod tool is called a pickle fork & I'm a bit jealous. I have never even seen one before.
@@thejunkyardnecromancer Typically crow foot wrenches are 3/8 drive. Yes They are designed to to used with a ratchet or breaker bar in whatever combination you need to reach a hard to get fastener. Just to clarify I do own & have used pickle forks many times. I have never seen a vintage plomb one. That's really cool & I'll be trying to find on now. I really like old plomb & proto tools as well. Nice finds. Coincidental as it may be I have a '77 F-250 camper special. I didn't have mine in high school but my daughter wants mine so it will be her truck in high school.
@@rickhammar1636 That makes a lot of sense. Maybe I'll come across more sizes! '77 f250 camper special? That's awesome! Does it have a 460? Mine is the Ranger XLT with a 400.
Haha. Found them years ago in a railyard. I'm assuming they are off of a train car somewhere. I use them as small anvils, and to crack jokes about my "huge nuts". XD

Thanks for the awesome video Mr. Necromancer! Your first video about your Plomb collection piqued my interest, and got me looking for some of these awesome tools myself. I've since collected a handful, including a 1/4" deep well socket and a 1/4" ignition wrench that I use almost daily to build and service chemical analyzers and other scientific equipment. Happy hunting to you and Mrs. Necromancer!
@@thejunkyardnecromancer I will soon I think all I have is a double box end wrench and a double offset flat head screwdriver plomb is hard to find where I am at Williams and Indestro and SK are easier finds
Absurdly jealous. Lol. I’ve got a small collection of plomb started and always looking for more. I’ve yet to find a ratchet yet looking at sales and the local second hand tool stores. But I’m desperately after a 1/2 drive ratchet as I’ve got quite a few of the sockets now. Got a good assortment of wrenches as well. I’m very curious if they used forging dies that were in two pieces or at least used the top half of the 1/2” sockets as reference for the 3/8 and just molded in the lower half. I have a proto socket with that smaller lower half
Thanks for the shout out. The crows foot as mentioned below, you would use on the end of an extension to go into a hole. If you guys see anything on my ebay store shoot me an email and I'll give you a discount. I also have a ton of sk and proto that I haven't put up on my store.
In my experience, the perfect tool is the one i can take to a bench grinder or smack with a hammer and not care if it is destroyed in the line of duty 🤣
That is a good point! I do beat up on my tools quite a bit even though I really like to find these old ones. I also have Harbor Freight tools as well. I don't feel so bad beating up on them as much haha. I did bust the handle on my large Proto screwdriver last week because I was using it like a hammer. I'll be gluing it up, and it should be good to go again!
I depends on what condition, model, year, etc. I don't think these Plomb tools are worth a ton of money per se, but they are worth something to me since I collect and use them.
I am under the impression that the grey tools were cadmium plated during the world war II Years, and tool manufacturers resumed chrome plating in the post war years . Tho i only heard about it because i was not even born until 1954

I love plomb pebble wrenches. I was lucky to recently complete the full combo wrench set all the way to 1-7/16"
