- I'd like to start by saying -- you can ONLY use UniFi Talk phones with UniFi Talk. If you get the subsription locked phones -- they're cheaper because you have to pay a monthly fee for each of the phones. If you don't need a direct phone number on a UniFi talk handset -- pay more and go with the unlocked phone.

I would like to see a full install and programming of a phone and extentions. I would like to know the features and services you get by using the subscription. If you get 2 subscriptions is it pbx? Can you site to site pbx?
You also need an unlocked phone if using 3rd party SIP service.
these phone need a sip configurable phone, i wouldn't buy a phone that locked to only one provider

Yea bad terminology on them. You hit the nail on the head. People had to go through this with cell phone providers. Once I heard you say they come with a number. That is a big difference. Not sure what they could have used. Subscription verses one time purchase with a list. But still they need to have *This phone does not support third party systems. Something like that. Then the other thing I see all the time is customers purchasing on price. Why does my 30+ computer network and wifi suck. Hmm, Running it off a $150 router and a 24 port $80.00 Switch. (Though I have seen some okay ones for that price.) Oh and the voip system my phone provider company just replaced my legacy system sucks. They say to contact IT people to fix it. Oh, I had to edit this. I just looked it up. Apparently the unlocked does work on other systems. If I understand it correctly.
Can someone clearly clarify the answer to this question? If I purchase an unlocked UniFi phone and I have a locked UniFi phone for our office staff can the unlocked phone make outgoing calls or only be transferred calls from the locked UniFi phone number? I understand that you can have it set up without a dedicated number (DID) but can it make outgoing calls?
Won't get our businesses. There's enough to learn in emerging tech w/o the gang @ Unify playing games. Locked/Unlocked has been defined by the suits of Cellular for over a generation. Unify CHOSE Not to use different terminology. Almost see that meeting where Dick says "Confused sale is better than no sale".

So unlocked phones can only be used for internal calls.
What does the dashboard show when you receive and place calls with 3rd party voip providers? Can you call transcribe still? Call record? Log calls?

Are you aware if locked phones are able to make outbound calls using a Unifi talk number assigned to a different phone. The scenario is that an office secretary would be the one answering callaand would need to be able to forward to a principal, and the principal would need to be able to make outbound calls.
I am also curious to this as well.
It would be great to learn what a deployment would require for a small office of 20 people, with one external phone number. Can people call that number, dial an extension of someone that has an unlocked phone and it goes through? Additionally, can an unlocked phone make an external call?
Unlocked phones can make external calls if you use a SIP Provider, If you buy one Unifi phone and buy like a Grandstream, you can also use it there as well (some techskills required and you need at least one phone from unifi to unlock unifi talk)
Another issue with talk is they do not have a soft phone, out of the office? It would be great to have a soft phone on your mobile, its an age old feature thats been requested for years.
There have been hints if you watch the marketing material.
We have the same toll free number for our business for 10+ years, and I believe a toll-free can not be ported into Unifi Talk (USA). If we were to switch to UniFi talk, what number would we be able to post on our website for customers to call into. How does this posted number routto to all the other UniFi lines on the system?
I use twilio for the toll free number and forward it to the Unifi number/main number
@@protecteratr thanks for your help. Does the Twilio number simply forward to the Unifi Auto Attendant or is it to a UniFi talk number? Does UniFi talk assign a "top level" or main phone number or do I have to give up one of the UniFi numbers assigned?
Can you hook up Unifi talk to google voice or is it still only obihai that can do that?
If you had Google Voice for Business you could use it as a third party SIP provider.
How can you tell a Unlocked phone apart from an locked? like when buying used
They have different model numbers. The unlocked compact I have is UVP-Touch, and the unlocked Max I have is UVP-TouchMax. They may have changed, but the locked versions usually have a L somewhere in the model number.

If you have 1Unifi Phone or Unifi Adapter, you can put your Grandstream in as a sip phone with Unifi Talk. You need a few tech skills but you can do it.

Does anyone know if Ubiquiti offers a way to buy a locked phone and then convert it to an unlocked phone down the road?
Spend the extra dough, or buy the telephone adapter (thats unlocked as well) but don't expect the locked phones to have an unlocked feature down the road!
Definitely not. I reached out to support and they said I could not pay the difference to unlock them. So I have a couple of bricks.
Does the locked phone work with only intercom calls from Unifi Talk? I.e. I’m okay with the phone not receiving any external calls but just receive calls made over internal phones from other rooms. Do I still need to get unlocked version?
Locked version will only work properly with a subscription - if you want an internal phone without a DID get the unlocked version.
@@WillieHowe They should enable the locked phone when it is used for ONLY intercom. It makes sense to make people buy the unlocked phone for 3rd party SIP!
The Unifi Talk ATA Analog Telephone Adapter does not have an option for locked or unlocked. Do we assume it is unlocked? I always thought the lock meant if you use Unifi Talk subscription the price of the phone is cheaper hence the locked into Unifi Talk service. Unlocked meant I could use any SIP provider for the VOIP service and thus the higher price. Yes all Unifi phones including the adapter is only useable with Unfi Talk.

It is unlocked, I use it with my sip provider. So yes it is unlocked I can confirm it!
