- It's been years coming. I started building this 1995 BMW M3 over 3 years ago and it is finally done. Well, not really. It still needs a ton of work and even more development. Maybe more than I can give it? Today is the first real shake down on the LS3 swapped e36 with a goal of compiling a list of its issues so I can start dialing it in to becoming a great track car. Because remember this was supposed to be a Gymkhana Grid car that is now repurposed for track events.
A bit of a change up for the content today. Jolly ditched me so a long time homie and I took a stab at the edit. Also my first attempt at track content mostly solo. Lots of improvements needed to me, my media and the car... but we are jamming and having fun!

The best part of Hoonigan is seeing all the ex employees produce some really good content on their own.

I like how vin had mentioned he doesn’t want to do youtube 24/7 and he just wants to update us here and there but I feel like he found his calling and Im so proud. This guy made it work with pure traction and effort. Thank you for your hard work and keeping us in the loop my boy.

Honestly, it's all the perfect amount of track/driving footage and everything thing else inbetween. Maybe just more airtime for Champ!!!

This has quickly become one of my favorite channels.
I have had and fixed both of those problems in my ls swapped rx8 track car. The fix for the catch can is a ls6 valley cover breather setup. Tons of baffling. I was emptying the catch can every to laps before and it’s once a season now. The fix for the clutch is better heat management around the clutch line. Tons of heat wrap and a shield or two will keep the fluid from boiling and making the clutch not work anymore. I was unable to test both of them with street use, only happened on track.
This is some good stuff right here, hopefully he puts your theory to the test.

I love the vibe of "hey guys I'm doing stuff, come hang out". Learning as you go both in automotive and making content. Love the let's have fun (and frustrations) feeling. It's refreshing compared to the almost scripted vibe a lot of car content has now.
Dude give yourself some slack. You aren’t a multi million dollar company, you don’t have the help! Your content is always on point, your style is what we want to see, and making car content in CA is a challenge in itself. Just make the content that makes you happy bc we most people literally followed you bc you have swag and are cool, not bc you used to work for hoonigan.

I've said it for years this is the content we want not giant overpriced builds. Hoonigan staff project cars, build bio, burn yard and track day stuff is the best content, along with car meet and car part picking/swap meets.
Nice to se this car doing what it’s built for! I think you’re doing great with these vlogs. I like watching them a lot.
One technical thing to think about is the volumes of the sound. One second it’s very loud music, then very quiet vocal parts and then loud engine noises and so on. A limiter is a simple tool for making the volumes match.

It’s a tad dirty, wouldn’t a proper muffler just make it sound sexy and really not affect the performance, at least at this level?
I’m here agreeing with the general consensus. Great content and mix of showing you actually wrenching in your car, talking through the trial and error, showing the track time, and recapping. I want to add that I’ve been a dumb level of excited just anticipating the next video dropping. My car has been giving us fits and finally hits the dyno tomorrow. Thank you for continuing to inspire all of us!

Great video, thanks Vin. For your master cylinder problems, look into getting an upgrade like a Tick that you can adjust, and make sure you’re fluid is high temp. And maybe even look into adding a bleeder valve to keep it tidy.
Wasn't this car initially meant for the gymkhana style competition that Hoonigan was going to have? Whatever happened to that? It seems like you're the only one that had a car ready to go
Yeah unfortunately it never happened due to funding. If it comes back I’ll run it but hey, at least it turned into a real mediocre track car.
I think you actually did a really great job of filming a track day with all of the expectations and then updates. Love the format of it all. Very likable content IMO.

Really enjoyed the more technical conversation about you trying to sort out the setup, would be cool to see more of that in the future.
One thing I know is much easier said than done, especially when filming outside, but the difference in volume when your talking outside the car then going into you driving on track with the engine noise is quite large.

With how much driving you've done, that amount of fluid in the catch can wouldn't concern me at all. I put an entire quart of oil in my catch can in a 1/4 mile pass... yes I know it's a loose drag motor, but just for perspective. Remember that Smedding motor is a little more race than street, so I think you're good. Just *keep an eye on the oil level*.

Honestly the footage was fine. The audio is what was a killer, the spikes in audio of the engine compared to voice as well as in the workshop audio was too quiet.

A proven e36 race set up which gives a touch more front grip than rear is:
700lb front spring
350lb rear spring
0 toe all round
-4 degree front camber
-3 degree rear camber
6 degrees front caster
28mm front sway bar
21mm rear sway bar
a project track car seems so difficult to complete and be fully satisfied. Im sure the day will come and the reward will be surreal.

Have you checked the throw on throwout bearing? It could be understroking or your master cylinder isn't big enough for it and pushing enough fluid. Also those twin disk clutches need all the throw you can give them
