As a RUclips viewer (not creator), I've noticed the sound is all over the place. WHY? It causes me to reject the video and go on to something else. I can turn the volume up all the way on my Dolby and I still can hardly hear some channels. REALLY frustrating. This has only occurred in the last few months. Is RUclips crazy???
That's how I got onto this video. I've been so frustrated by the extremely low volume of videos I watch. My computer volume is all the way up, the volume on RUclips is all the way up and I STILL can barely hear. I have to resort to ear buds to (still) barely hear.
My conclusion is RUclips must be crazy because they're just causing user frustration.
Any solutions for listeners combating this?
@@sabrinaf4444 Those vibration going directly into your ears will cause cataracts in your eyes. Ask a doctor and hell say, that's impossible. But hell believes in the germ theory also.

Thank you for putting words to a constant frustration I was experiencing for a while now... So RUclips does tamper with my volume levels, and doesn't bother to tell me.
A question though: what difference does it make to lower the volume before the export, since you're reducing volume with the same amount RUclips will if you don't?

Very informative but I am looking for away to increase the volume of movies that I watch on RUclips. It is very frustrating that I have to turn my tv volume up to 100 just to hear / enjoy an RUclips movie but, I also have to turn the volume down when RUclips shows commercials. I just wish that the movies or videos play louder and the commercials were low.
All volume manipulation on the Internet is part of the vast mind control theories that go through the perverted minds of their higher-ups. If you know they do this, it doesn't work. But it still remains inconvenient.

RUclips has really gotten ridiculous with the volume reduction penalty. Its stripping the tracks of their required sound depth and fidelity.
I came here for this very reason. Just got my first video up, and all the subtlety of my mix is just GONE.

I came across your video after googling the issue of my music videos seeming to be really quiet on RUclips, until they get to the fade out of my songs. Then the sound level increases to be louder than the entire song was! I panicked, thinking I screwed something up on my video uploads which now have over 100K views. But nope, the music videos are fine. And I master in a very quality music studio.
So then I knew it had to be some kind of AI at RUclips screwing up the sound of my videos. They should use a sound leveler that doesn’t normalize the audio. As it screws up the sound dynamics of songs. They should just take the entire level of the sound track down, to where the loudest part of the track hits their cap. So you retain the original sound as it was intended by the creator. I realize some parts of the audio then would be quieter. But that is how the audio was intended by the creators. They want to normalize all audio, to one level and crush all the different frequencies. Which sucks for music videos.
RUclips doesn’t have any type of consistent sound leveling whatsoever….
I just discovered a more confusing issue. When I embed a video to Google Forms or Typeform the videos are super quiet, I wasn't talking very loud in the video itself but it was not difficult to hear me on max volume in RUclips but when embedded on the forms it would be hard to hear with earphones in. The only thing I can think of to do is to redownload the video and boost the sound with another editing app and re-upload. Do you know of a fix for this?
Iv'e noticed this on my latest uploaded videos too. The difference is it is not videos with music that is not so noticeable. it is videos with voice audio and narration and is very noticeable. The sound goes up and down right through the video affecting the quality of the narration. Anything I can do to get a more consistent audio of narration throughout the video. Any help or advice appreciated. TIA

Great video as always and very informative. I was also looking for answers for a while on this; on my end I found the magic number to be 16LUFS. So I changed the default settings in the text file under Adobe Premiere for Dialogue and Music to 16LUFS. I then go to the Audio tab and select either Dialogue or Music depending on the track. From there I select Automatch under the Loudness which will bring music from around 9 range to 16 and Dialogue oftentimes in the 21-27 range to 16. I found this way was just perfect with no up and down in the audio. And from what I saw in the "Stats for Nerds" was that my volume was never normalized by RUclips and I am able to watch the video beginning to end without ever bringing up the volume during dialogue and bringing it down during music. But is there a difference between your method or this one? I don't know enough about the subject.
I think both methods are similar with the same results so whatever works for you.

Sorry I need some help to let me understand what I should do, my video music is softer when I play my uploaded video in youtube which is a pain as it loose the feel n effect I want to bring forth, so is it that I just turn up the audio volume abit more during rendering so when I load to youtube n it auto lower down the volume it still ends up at the level I'm satisfied with..? I use davinci resolve, thankss
I have an issue that it does not play through phone but on computer it is quite fine. Also The Analyzer showed that RUclips doesn't do anything to the track which is hard to believe. ASMR is mostly listened through phone so it is important that the track stands out. I have no idea what's going on. Also other videos have lost the sound almost completely. Are you able to help?
So my music is being normalized and is really quiet when Im logged into my account but it's proper volume when I log out of it? Any tips? This is really annoying and only started happening a week ago.

Here's a tutorial on how to use plug-ins in OBS. It's for accusonus, but it should work with any other plug-in.

So does the plugin make the music louder as well or does it just show how many DBs YT is going to decrease? I couldn't here the music well in the video.
I put the audio "from a RUclips video" into the loudness meter and it said it needed to be brought down -7.3 yet it didn't get penalized yet I have to bring down my stuff to not get a penalty???
While listening to music on RUclips, my volume fluctuates during playback following a "potential span" call. In the past, I reset my IPhone by turning it off for a few minutes. After turning it on I Google an item and again the call up RUclips music and it worked...but not this time. Any help from yourself or anyone on the stream would be appreciated.
For a little over a year I noticed anything I watch on RUclips lowers in volume about halfway through the video. Is that what this is about?
i listened to one of my tracks on youtube compared to a similar one by another artists. Theirs is WAY louder on youtube, so i converted theirs aswell as my youtube upload to mp3 and downloaded it. The downloaded mp3 files sound pretty similar in loudness, so i assumed when i put them into the penalty analyzer mine would be turned down way more that theirs (because the original one on youtube is way quieter) but to my surprise the penalty analyzer suggest they both get turned down around 7 dB
My issue is listening to music in the car from my RUclips playlist is that I want to have the same volume level on each track. I'm fed up with having to turn music up and down. Any way to fix this in settings? I've looked and can't find it. Any help appreciated.
The problem I always experience is that videos will have low mic volume and loud music. I don't know if it's the content creator or RUclips.
I have no Volume is like mute is on. And I don't see a bloody mute button.
si if i've made a track in a music maker software could i just lower the master volume then upload it to youtube and it will sound better?

If I don't have volume on RUclips to listen to music and I look up a tutorial on how to fix the problem don't you think having subtitles would be helpful be helpful since I don't have volume I can't hear what you're saying
Why wass volume button taken away. Some videos are impossible to hear without ear buds. Im thinking as much as i enjoy you tube some videos are so low i cant hear it. The volume button that usc to be on each video was taken away. Why
Question, my RUclips volume is, I'll guess, 25% but games and everything else is kind of normal. Is there a way to increase the RUclips volume? all my set volumes are 100% on my computer.
Good quick solution, but we dont know what kind of volume measuring they are using: peak volume, rms volume, or dynamic range.
So the idea is to keep your original audio away from youtube processing, right? Anyway we are going to get -5.3db which is low anyway. Am I understanding it right?
You'll only see this kind of reduction if you're volume level is high enough.

It depends on your overall program loudness. If your export is being turned down by RUclips, then adjust your program loudness.
Free audio editor called Audacity has now a Loudness Normalization Setting in the effects menu...By setting the final mix to -14 LUFS the audio will be at the correct values for RUclips...but that still doesn't fix the problem. I notice some audio files I upload are still louder than others ..using the same settings in Audacity...I also notice that when I upload directly a video to RUclips from an old phone the audio is way louder that the ones I master in Audacity...I also note that YT have decresed the loudness on those phone videos but they are still louder than the ones I process through Audacity with the correct loudnes normalization setting -14LUFS...
I work in Broadcast and that is 23 lufs but doesn't Adobe have a built in Loudness analyzer ? I have used it.. so you can set it to -14 for youtube there and see what your loudness is there... no?
Yes Premiere Pro does have the Loudness Radar. It's OK, but not as simple as this plug-in.
Adobe did release the new Loudness Meter while I was preparing this tutorial so I'll do a future episode on that. It seems to do very much the same with the exception of letting you hear the difference.
So you decreasing the level yourself rather than letting RUclips do that? Is that correct? Not sure what the point is to decrease the levels if Im understanding this correctly
I was answering someone else's request so they wanted to control it and not have an unpredictable result on RUclips. I don't do this myself.

It limits the amount of volume. I only used it to create a controlled test. I would not use this normally.
How does all of this work for and with Android cellphones ????

I connect my headphone output of my laptop to an aux input on my receiver and get great sound.... but the audio levels change between songs on RUclips, audio at Netflix... etc in their complex but idiotic attempts at mind control. In the days of analog, when I was a technician, such inputs and/or outputs had automatic gain control circuits in to keep levels a 0dBm average, an industry standard. But now levels go everywhere. I'd like to know if I can find an AGC circuit I can put on my headphone output to stabilize it all. Or could I design one. After all, at this point it's all analog anyway.
Did you know that now even children are getting cataracts? Ear pods and headphones. Headlights making us blind. Blue screen back lit devices causing photo receptors to burn out. During total darkness a streak is seen in a flash. Ask a doctor. They are all clueless. Deaf, dumb and blind people can be controlled.
I have been through 2 iPhones for they do the same thing all of a sudden.
The video starts with unbearable voice then goes really high and stays high. You can see this in Go Vertical with ferns. Help Sabrina

the volume slider itself on the videos straight up doesn't go to 100 in scale. you'll see a bigger slider if you play picture in picture
I’m not very technically literate, so most is over my head. So, I just got the RUclips app on my tv. It’s older and smart, but not 4k smart. RUclips sound is very muffled when I hear someone speak. Can what you’re doing here, fix that?
I’ll add that the sound of same person in fine on my iPhone.

You really shouldn't use a hard limiter that way on program material that has already been limited in the original mix. Your crushing it way too much. The correct way to do it is set your limit ceiling to -0.1dbFS, then turn your MASTER VOLUME fader down to -5.3db. If you want to meter it with the metering plugin, make sure the plugin is in a post fade insert slot. This way you dont destroy whatever dynamic integrity the original mix of the music has.
I mentioned that in the tutorial. I was only using the limiter to create a controlled test level.
@@VideoRevealed Indeed you did Colin. I only wanted to make clear the 'correct', for want of a better word, procedure for dealing with already hard limited program material. In my experience, that's the vast majority of tracks licensed for video use unfortunately.
Perhaps you could cover this in a future tutorial? I feel that audio production, and specifically correct procedures for gain staging and parallel processing, are missing from many Permiere Pro tutorials. It's such a huge part of the process of producing professional work. I came to video as a long time audio engineer, so I can understand how some may find this aspect quite daunting, as I found video editing at first.

RUclips have their advert volume set to be louder than the videos. I noticed this a while back around the time YT started the ad free sub. They are out to make adverts a pain so you sub up to get rid of the loud ads.

When you normalize by reducing the volume basically what you are doing is just making youtube's work easy....The figures will change on the stats but the output/loudness will still remain the same...
the sound on youtube is usually set to max, blasting beyond belief... how bad is your sound system that you actually have to increase from max??? Maybe get your hearing checked? How does one set a default sound level to stop the blasting? Now there's something that might be useful...
my win shows that they do this the first 2 sec i hear the normal sound and then it jumps soft it makes me crazzzy everyday

man it's super annoying because progressively the video i watch will keep getting louder and louder regardless of what volume it's on. Considering youtube has made it very difficult to disable this setting it's just downright annoying. Fact is i still havent managed to figure out how to stop youtube from gradually increasing my audio.

This is seriously annoying. I am an audio engineer and RUclips keeps messing up my masters. I spend a lot of time making my mixes sound perfect, and YT keeps f***ing them up. What is the difference between lowering them yourself and letting RUclips do it?
i promise you they do for anyone wondering you can go check yourself right now use the same song on both normal youtube and youtube music and see the major difference

I just don't understand. If I tap on a video from a channel I'm subscribed to, and turn the volume slider on the side of the phone, even all the way, it still won't be loud enough to hear. I do not have a hearing loss.
My only suggestion is to do some tests with different output volumes and pick the one that sounds best.

Maddening how i adjust volume so its faint while Im talking, then fade up again when Im not.. i do it with an app seperate from Y'tube so the video is finished before I upload.. Somehow y'tube makes the music louder and it competes with the voiceover. Ridiculous. It also messes with my music videos, songs i write & perform, some are studio produced, it shifts things around.
I can undertsand making volume quietier for static, reverb, etc... but some of us work hard for just the right balance and it feels highjacked

I want lower volume. So low phone is against my ear and partner in bed won’t hear but it’s still too damn loud and that’s not including the loud ass commercials

That's odd. The volume of this video is set to 0dB. Which is the absolutely loudest it can get without distorting.
Pretty much at a loss to understanding why the volume needs to be reduced, if it’s for my benefit, when I can simply turn my volume down while listening, if it is “too loud”.

There's no need to understand why RUclips does it because we have no control. They just do so we have to live with it.
this is not a "fix" you are just doing the same work of youtube AI would do , it will still less loud anyway, the question is there are people who are able to put louder music on youtube (or any other major streaming service) by using some tricks , but i guess it's a secret

BS YOUTBE all of a sudden the volume went down. I hate it. I ended up buying enormous speaker now and now my youtube volume is 500 times louder.

There's nothing you can do about it. RUclips lowers the volume of users' videos so that ad-supported videos play louder and attract more attention. It is simply that, a commercial matter. Like on TV for decades. Advertising sounds louder than programming.
RUclips us aweful with their incompetency and inaccuracy especially with their FALSE COPYRIGHT accusations totally unprofessional.

Audio gain is not a simple subject.
I just want to be able to adjust the volume. I don't need a IT lesson. Some of us Alpha types don't care about all other stuff.
You're going to be more valuable to yourself and others if you understand the "why". Pushing buttons only gets you so far.
