something you can't see in the pro shot of the summoning but is somewhat noticeable in digital ticket recordings, is the little moves each lord does at first, move around the five of them in a pentagram shape. one of the ones you can easiest follow in the pro shot is pokey's little raising the masks. it shows you lauren, then kim, then curt, all doing that move one after the other as it moves around the pentagram.
this is super nitpicky but im a little bitter that the "wear a watch" joke didn't make it into nerdy prudes must die. the bit with stephanie's phone wouldve been SO PERFECT
it wouldnt have worked but i'm now picturing one of the Lords just snatching her phone out of her hand and throwing it off to the sides with the same "UHN!" that MacNamara did and im losing my mind
This might be my favourite starkid musical ranking video ive watched!! The absolute delight when I realized that HMB and Starship were in your top 5!!!! Especially Starship which is my personal #1, so glad there's some love out there for these underrated gems. I definitely think this is the closest ranking I've seen to my own, and even the ones that werent perfect matches I could totally see your reasoning!! Your uploads are such a delight to see in my feed, I do hope you'll make more because your compilations are always killer, and across fandoms as well! I love your snapcube and dimension 20 vids :D
Thank you so much for this comment you're so sweet! hmb and starship deserve all the love in the world and are criminally underrated. I love making videos and I'm so happy you like my others as well
Starship is so so so so so so underrated. I loooove it and people really only seem to pay attention to Kick it Up a Notch, which don't get me wrong, such a wonderful song and one of my faves in the show, but it has so much to offer!
Black Friday is such an experience to watch live. In CaliforMIA they cut Hannahs damce break through out the song. I love Jon Matteson as Wiggly. He did it live for every single night except literal Black Friday. more than half the cast was out sick so they did a special little show of The Guy Who Didnt like musicals with the cast that was there. There was one night where Dylan was out sick and Jeff had to step in as Tom ❤ I wish you did add in VHS Christmas carol. I think its extremely similar to classic starkid where they have an original source material and they play off of it with jokes and making fun of some of the original source material in fun playful ways. And Clark did a phenomenal job ❤
this is an AMAZING video, and i loved hearing your thoughts on everything, esp some of the more underrated hits like HMB!! i 100% agree that my personal list of subjective favourites would be way different than an "objective best" list, but seeing people's favourites is way more ebjoyable to me!
I screamed. Can we be friends like we actually have the same top two shows and it's so rare to find another person who has HMB as their favourite. Also I hope Jon and Will get put in non Hatchet Field shows. ALSO can you believe that sweet tooth was Jeff's first SK role??? Like this man SHOWED UP. And I'm obsessed. I think HMB is so enjoyable and fun because its campy and budget theatre at its best
HMB deserves all the love in the world. When I first learned that sweet tooth was jeff's first sk role it shocked me to my core he absolutely KILLED it
Please never watch Star Wars. You'll get far more enjoyment out of people's reactions to learning you haven't than you ever could from actually watching it.
@@jenniferboyster5356 Well, to speak a bit more on this, it does seem very strange to me to get joy from receiving slightly angered responses from people because you don't share an experience with art that deeply affected them. Wouldn't you feel a little bit sad & left out? Not to say you'd have to act on that feeling but where's the joy in having that disconnect with other people versus the joy that they clearly had watching a boy or a girl in black pants or tan pants swing a laser sword at hunks of metal with funny voices? Sorry but it just comes off oddly spiteful for an otherwise positive Starkid community comment section.
Super good list!! I also didn’t like Black Friday when it came out, but re-listening to it made it grow on me (Dylan’s songs are amazing). I like the point you made about the closeups in NPMD. I feel like Black Friday has the same problem. The closeups really suck you out of the “theater feeling.” Totally agree with the top five, it’s tough to order them since they are equally good, except Twisted is #1 for me.
God Holy Musical Batman was my number one for a while (it’s now Black Friday lmao), and I have Twisted in the exact same spot, because I don’t think it belongs out of the top 5 but I don’t love it as much as other people. Fantastic video
24:07 this point is really funny to me because it's actually the reason i'm not as big a fan of a lot of the songs in npmd. i like actually getting to hear what they sound like on stage but i can understand your opinion too
mine bc why not 13. MAMD 12. Firebringer 11. Twisted 10. Ani 9. Holy musical b@man 8. Trail to Oregon 7. a very potter musical 6. a very potter sequel 5. A very potter senior year 4. TGWDLM 3. NPMD 2. Black friday 1. Starship
I may not agree with you on most of your rankings, but you are SO RIGHT about having HMB in the top. It's my second favourite after twisted simply because I find myself rewatching twisted more than I rewatch HMB
i loved hearing your thoughts on this!! I personally would have ranked Black Friday higher (I think it kind of flopped because the other two Hatchetfield musicals are so much better) and Trail to Oregon lower, but when you point out that it was made on such a low budget I do honestly see where you're coming from. The potty humor always kinda ruins it for me :') But again, i respect you!! Here for the Joe Walker love :P
bro I can't believe HMB was number 1. It's my favourite and I've seen it way too many times and that was before I even became a Batman fan. I also agree with Twisted, It's probably objectively best but it's still not my favourite. Also tbh AVPSY is my fav of the AVPM trilogy; idk I just think the emotional moments hit well, I find it very funny, I love all the songs (Always Dance might be up there with fav Starkid songs for me) and I like how it's not just about the trilogy ending, but about Darren leaving, Honestly I would wish it was the last Starkid musical if Twisted or the Hatchetfeild trilogy didn't exist because it just feels like the perfect end. That's just my opinion tho, other my unpopular AVPSY opinion, I think we agreed on basically everything tbh.
I remember in a live stream Nick Lang said he was genuinely worried that the audience was going to guess the Chorn bit at the end of Firebringer, and Jeff was like ??? in what world would anyone think of that 😭
no but holy musical b@man is so fucking good, i have literally never consumed any batman media and i still understood the jokes and enjoyed the characters which is a great achievement and honestly, though i may be a bit biased, i think it’s one of the best batman medias (video quality etc excluded)
I Love All Of Their Shows. But My Favorites Are A Very Potter Senior Year. And Ani. Tin Can Brothers Related Spies Are Forever. And I Can't Wait Until Their New Musical Comes Out.
Holy musical b@tman is so good it's nr.2 or 3 for me and I just can't find a way to put it higher I tried to put it above the guy who didn't like musicals and nerdy prudes must die. I adore b@tman musical with all my heart
YES ANOTHER PERSON WHO DIDNT RLLY LIKE BLACK FRIDAY THAT MUCH SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE I COULDNT GET INVESTED IN THE MANY NES CHARACTERS THAT DIDN’T SEEM CONNECTED ENOUGH Edit: halfway through your review of TGWDLM I realized what show would be next and shouted “YEAAHHHHH” at the top of my lungs. Safe to say I agree with many of your choices
I really love Ani but I get that it doesn't work for a lot of people. I think it helps to look at it as trying to parody 80s sports movies with the band singing acting as a soundtrack rather than trying to be a straight musical (though obv that doesn't help with the Star Wars part). On my end, Twisted doesn't really work for me and is towards the bottom in my rankings. I don't really get why because the individual parts and ideas sound great, like poking fun at Disney --great, getting Jafar's POV --interesting, Dylan as lead --dude can SING, but all together its just meh.
With Holy Music Batman I have a similar problem as the one with ANI and its that I have no clue who hald of those characters are because i was never into DC. So it's a hard one for me because i love the acting and the songs but I feel like I'm always missing part of the depth of the jokes and characterization
i’ve never consumed any dc or batman media other than hmb, and i don’t know a lot about batman except what i’ve seen from lego batman movie clips and basic knowledge like that batman is an orphan. still i throughly enjoy holy musical b@man because to me it feels like i don’t need to know much about the official lore to understand jokes and characters lot better than with ANI (as someone who has seen all star wars episodes)
this is probably a very unpopular opinion but starship and twisted (along with mamd & ani) are at the bottom of my list, objectively they’re great but i just don’t get all of the hype for them. that being said i do think all of the musicals are pretty much masterpieces
great take except i have to respectfully disagree on FB. Firebringer is just the best. honestly my big thing with it is the lack of jaime lynn beatty feature. however i dont think i will be happy until she leads a musical.
Just letting everyone know that if Spies Are Forever was a Starkid Production, it would be number 1
EDIT: subtitles are up!
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHATS UP
YOU'RE SO REAL🙏🙏I agree!!
You’re so real for this.
For me it’s number two behind twisted
People never put Joe Walker in the “best Batman” debate bc they know he’d win every time.
SO TRUE
something you can't see in the pro shot of the summoning but is somewhat noticeable in digital ticket recordings, is the little moves each lord does at first, move around the five of them in a pentagram shape. one of the ones you can easiest follow in the pro shot is pokey's little raising the masks. it shows you lauren, then kim, then curt, all doing that move one after the other as it moves around the pentagram.
So sad it's not in the pro shot :(
this is super nitpicky but im a little bitter that the "wear a watch" joke didn't make it into nerdy prudes must die. the bit with stephanie's phone wouldve been SO PERFECT
it wouldnt have worked but i'm now picturing one of the Lords just snatching her phone out of her hand and throwing it off to the sides with the same "UHN!" that MacNamara did and im losing my mind
Im so glad you were brave enough to put holy musical batman as number one. Truly a visionary and genius.
so much respect for having hmb at #1. i feel like it’s so underrated and even though it isn’t my favorite i absolutely adore it
This might be my favourite starkid musical ranking video ive watched!! The absolute delight when I realized that HMB and Starship were in your top 5!!!! honestly you are so valid for hmb. it's a banger. dylan saunders has maybe my fav voice in all of starkid tbh, and he CRUSHES it in hmb.
Black Friday is such an experience to watch live. In CaliforMIA they cut Hannahs damce break through out the song. I love Jon Matteson as Wiggly. Holy shit! I absolutely adore HMB! And Hatchetfield, but the fact hmb was so high was an incredibly pleasant surprise
hmb deserves all the love and praise in the world
i absolutely love HMB and i'm so happy to see it get the love it deserves
Please never watch Star Wars. You'll get far more enjoyment out of people's reactions to learning you haven't than you ever could from actually watching it.
This is my exact thought process
Well, SW is so influential that you just have to dive into it at some point.
@@austinthesan-antonian3932no you don’t I have also never seen any of them and I have no plan to ever watch them
@@jenniferboyster5356 Well, to speak a bit more on this, it does seem very strange to me to get joy from receiving slightly angered responses from people because you don't share an experience with art that deeply affected them.

Honestly this was going way too hard for you basically just going: "I don't like thing". Sorry 😅

This is a video no one asked for but everyone needed
24:07 this point is really funny to me because it's actually the reason i'm not as big a fan of a lot of the songs in npmd. i like actually getting to hear what they sound like on stage but i can understand your opinion too

Holy musical b@tman is so good it's nr.2 or 3 for me and I just can't find a way to put it higher I tried to put it above the guy who didn't like musicals and nerdy prudes must die. I adore b@tman musical with all my heart
HMB at #1 is the most valid and correct opinion I've ever heard in my life send tweet
2:30 lol, and that's the funniest scene in the whole show for any Star Wars fan
ANOTHER HMB LOVER!!!!
YES ANOTHER PERSON WHO DIDNT RLLY LIKE BLACK FRIDAY THAT MUCH SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE I COULDNT GET INVESTED IN THE MANY NES CHARACTERS THAT DIDN’T SEEM CONNECTED ENOUGH
Edit: halfway through your review of TGWDLM I realized what show would be next and shouted “YEAAHHHHH” at the top of my lungs. Safe to say I agree with many of your choices
Where does VHS: A Christmas Carol fall on your list if you included it?
It'd probably be floating around just under the top five, maybe a bit higher. I adore the soundtrack
