  • Here is the video of all the footage and photos from our third day out in the greater Altoona area. Contrary to the beautiful weather we'd been given the day before, this particular day threw us a barrage of all kinds of weather, from sunshine to rain and snow. Unfortunately it did make for a little difficulty when trying to film and take photos, but we managed to make the most of our final full day out here!
After another early morning start in Altoona, we'd kick off our day out in the elements shooting a few trains at the Gallitzin Tunnels & AR Tower in Gallitzin - including loaded military train NS 056. It was then off to Cresson for a couple trains before the group began disbanding and some began their trip home. Afterwards, a few of us would make a quick stop at Horseshoe Curve to get a souvenir from the trip, and be treated to a train race squealing around the top - with NS 056 once again.
After an attempted chase (which came up just short) of the NS 056 back into downtown Altoona, we headed over to the east end of Rose Yard in Altoona to await their departure east after recrewing. While up on the bridge toughing out the snow, rain and winds, we got the chance to watch a couple trains recrew, one train work and several others pass by. Finally!, our patience paid off and NS 056 was off and running out of the area.
We then would make a quick stop by the Juniata Backshops for one more look at what was hanging around, before intercepting a couple trains on the other side of downtown Altoona and then heading over to the Brickyard until it was time for dinner. In our final "Night on the Town" we'd hang out in downtown Altoona watching a short rush of trains pass through before calling it a night and prepping for the next day's journey home.
Train and location information is included in the video.
