When I turned on this movie for the first time upon finding it on Prime Video, I definitely did not get the fast ride and colorful flood of the senses that I anticipated, mostly because the fact that John Krasinski wrote and directed it had slipped my mind. That's called "foreshadowing" or a "clue". He doesn't look like a clown, but his costuming sort of does. His actions tend to be like a circus performer, but his attitude is world weary. So, did I know he was the clown she mentioned? No. Did others? Yes. And some were teetering back and forth. That's what made this movie fun.
Cried like a baby during this ending. It was so beautiful and sweet. Really the only way it could have been better is if there was a reference to reuniting a girl named Riley with her IF named Bing Bong.

I haven't seen anyone else point this out, but earlier during the carnival scene, you can see Cal in his clown outfit from the back, handing out another purple flower.
