Ive been hearing don't take cheap freight. I sit on the load boards for months refusing to take "cheap freight" yet that cheap freight is being moved probably by the same drivers that say don't take "cheap freight". So many think the rates are going back to what it was during the pandemic if they don't take "cheap freight". I don't see that happening. some of these rates barely even cover fuel cost and it's crazy i see them getting swooped up off the load boards in minutes. It's gotta get worse before it will get better meaning the rates have to get worse, more drivers dropping out and less brokers.

@@hobo_jesus I'm in PA and the company I run for is based out of PA. Just closed the the week $7200 gross to the truck all northeast running this week. Upstate NY, Maryland, western and southern pa runs. It's out there you just gotta work extra hard these days. The long hauls or 2+ day runs don't pay. You gotta pull 1 day loads and short hops here and there. All loads I pulled this week were $2.50+. You can't run a business pulling anything under $2 a mile I don't care if you own your shit or not. At least .75 a mile goes right to fuel

This is 100% accurate. Spent years listening to Kevin Rutherford on satellite radio on his weekend show. He would get inundated with the "stop hauling cheap freight" and 99% of them would have no idea what their CPM was. The other question was always "what do you consider cheap freight?" and the could never answer that question, either.
Most of these drivers are excellent drivers, but absolutely horrible businessmen.

Interesting that since I started driving in 1989 I’ve heard of a drivers shortage yet the rates have gone up and down through all those years…………when one would think if there wasn’t enough drivers to move the freight people would be paying a premium to get it moved but we all know that’s not the case.

Good job. Looks like the dude puts way too much money in his rigs…a plain rig gets you to the same place in the same amount of time. I doubt anybody hires a hauler, at a premium price, because of the paint job…I’m 65, residential handyman, almost 50 years in it. I don’t think I ever even made 600 in a day. Thrilled when I make 350!
Take care, safe driving to you…

90 percent of freight is hauled by 10 percent of the company’s. That 10 percent of the freight that 90 percent of the companies move is spot market. The only way to go is contract freight if you can get the shipping company to talk to your small fries. The ONLY time the spot market is any good is when the market on available trucks is limited due to excessive freight availability

That might be the case for the Northern part of the US but what is killing trucking down here in the south and a lot of people havent noticed is that there are tons of Mexican truckers moving loads near the border for dirt cheap, which causes truckers at the border start to move north, and when theres too many truckers and few loads, prices go down. Im all for immigration and all that, but if theyre gonna be making the rich even more rich and taking my bread, they can stay on their side, or at least make them pay the same that we pay.
I say this being a 1st generation immigrant so dont come at me with accusations. I've also done dry van, car hauling, and flat bed, so I've lived what I'm talking about, im not getting my news from the news.

All these new guys who just popped up in the industry, are thones who are ruining everything for us. They got these huge truck notes to pay, plus insurance, plus nices homes and cars, and women and kids to feed; so, dont expect them to reject a load. Most of them only been in the industry for a few years, plus, they came in the game based on hearsay, that they'd become rich. So, to them, $1,300 for a 2k miles load, makes sense to them.

We can't just say don't haul cheap freight, we have to define it with a number! I know my line is a lot lower than most considering I have a paid for tractor and only do PO loads and act like a vulture by sitting waiting for for the emergency loads which are where the money is at.

I don't know.........I think there are fantastic drivers in several niches of the trucking industry. Over size over dimensional freight has very good drivers. And how bout we drivers who haul bulk liquid and gasses that if just a tiny bit leaks or gets out its a shelter in place or evac situation?? Takes mindfulness and attention to detail to ensure everyone's safety and well being to load transport and unload or transload that stuff. Lol

Are people really this stupid it’s called supply and demand freight rates aren’t down because of the owner operator there’s less freight to haul because of the economy so the bigger companies are sucking up a lot of the spot freight just to keep their trucks fueled and rolling and they are leaving owners the scraps . And if u try to hold out for more money then someone else will under bid you before u get a response from the broker. All we can do now is just survive and try to lower our overhead and keep moving and stay away from the bad areas 🤷‍♂️
