I am really glad “Detect Thoughts” was part of this build, because it lets me get multiple people’s opinion on a thought I’ve had on the spell. So, without saving throw or attack roll, you can read surface thoughts, aka what they are actively thinking at that moment. Thoughts like “I’m going to tell lie X”, “I’ll slash horizontally to gut them”, “I’ll explode my fireball at point y”, or “this Eldritch Blast will hit them in the kneecap”. Realistically then, when you’re privy to all their thoughts in the midst of battle, shouldn’t detect thoughts give you advantage on your attacks and save, while they have disadvantage on attacks against you. Even if it’s just in a one-on-one sense, it seems to me like the spell should work that way.
No. The way you describe it, you would be gaining the effects of Foresight, a 9th level spell, on top of being able to read a target’s mind and detect the presence of invisible, thinking creatures. That’s way too much.
Orangey congratulations on understanding why knowing anything a person is currently thinking is really overpowered during combat. That’s part of why I wanted to discuss this with people, because it comes across as WOTC really didn’t think through how the spell would work in a practical setting. There’s a manga, Spy x Family, about a little girl who can read minds. First day playing dodgeball and basically nobody can hit her because she know how they’re going to throw it and therefore exactly how to move to dodge. “I’ll aim for her feet” *dodged* “how did she know to jump the moment I threw it?! Fine, then her right arm!” *dodged* “I’LL THROW IT SO IT HITS HER AS SHE’S DODGING!” *stands still* “HOW IS SHE DOING THIS!?”. Only reason she loses is because her secret assassin mom taught her the worst method to throw a ball ever, and in her embarrassment at spiking the ball instead of throwing it, she doesn’t act in time to dodge.
Watching this video before finishing hollow knight was cool because I really enjoyed the build. Watching this video after finishing hollow knight was really cool because you did a really good job of recreating this little dude.
I have been dreaming of some hollow knight builds... Can't wait for hollow knight from hollow knight! Not the knight from hollow knight who is right here who fights the hollow knight. You know. The one from hollow knight. I'll stop talking now.
Two other ways to build The Knight If your DM allows UA, Twilight cleric/Kensei Monk, to represent the whole darkness thing, as well as the Knights training under the Nail Masters (Plus the god skill) If without UA, Oath of the Crown paladin (Flavor it as the power of a god king rather than a direct oath to a king), And warlock or Devine Soul sorcerer depending on your preference.
I really love the reflavoring of the Knight as a holy souly Kalashtar. I've loved their build since Eberon came out, and they became my favorite species after I saw the GOAT Kalashtar, Pete the Plug.
Fun fact, the Theros book did add the Athlete background which does give you Athletics and Acrobatics. I mean sure you don't see the Knight performing at the Olympics but its something
Why is everyone mean to Tulok, all of these videos are not only fun and entertaining but the characters are always super well built. If you don't like their builds then go start your own Channel and build it yourself
Huh...I expected a Tiefling or Aasimar because of the Knight's connection to Higher Beings and god and Void and all that, but Kalashtar fits nicely. Excellent build as always, my Barbrarian friend
I'm here for the spiteful true strike love. Also, I honestly don't know why true strike even gets the hate it does. Sure, it's not really good for full casters apart from sorcerers, but for an eldritch knight where you're able to attack as a bonus action whenever you cast a cantrip? Really good cantrip.
But True Strike’s effect doesn’t proc until the turn after you cast it, and you have to maintain concentration until then. That’s why it’s considered to be so bad.
@@OrangeyChocolate oh shoot i completely missed that bit. I thought it was just on your next attack. Yeah, nevermind, RAW it's pretty bad. But also I still appreciate spitefully including it
Whenever Silksong comes out, I suggest trying out Hornet as a playable character; given what we’ve seen so far in terms of movement, dialogue, and even the crafted tools she has
Love the build, but I think you could've squeezed in the leaving a shade thing if you went to 6 with hexblade. Sure, it leaves a specter when something else dies and not you, but it's really close.
If the Knight was in Smash Bros Ultimate I would go out and buy a Nintendo Switch to play it. I love Hollow Knight and Little Ghost that much, they are an adorable little badass. (Also don’t worry Tulok, you weren’t the only one fooled by Millibelle and those weird guys in Deepnest. And yes the game is really dang hard)
If you look all of the nails in Hallow Knight are actually sharpened on the sides. This means they actually look more like swords. After upgrading your nail for the first time, you can look in your inventory and see this for yourself.
What if they were half-orc, best bug edition Pros: boosts to strength and con, plus relentless endurance give a glass cannon some extra staying power. Plus darkvision for a free lantern. Plus half-orcs are hot. Plus plus half-orcs are my fave and hollow knight is my fave game, extra bonus. Cons: without the Kalashtar bonuses, you're vulnerable to dream nails. Verdict: half-orcs are hot, Hornet would want you to play a half-orc knight
I don’t know how other people felt about your men in black video, but I really liked the more conceptual build, instead of a specific character build. It would be cool to see how a hunter from the Monster Hunter would be made. Love you videos, keep em up!
2:45 all the knights are indeed completely mute, "No voice to cry suffering", they were made with that (and other) purposes in mind. 5:54 because the spiders dont use tools to climb, there is nothing for the knight to collect to gain that ability, and mantis loose that ability with age, so they made a tool for it
Episode #193 of the Fire Emblem stats: The Knight. The Knight is great with lances, swords (since the needle’s both), and faith. They’re bad at riding and flight because they’re smol as well as authority since they're a solo character. They have great attack, Magic, and dexterity but both defenses are doodoo.
@@weirdguy1495 it is, it determines the weight of weapon you can use before losing speed (dexterity) in combat. It's in the older games like Blazing blade. For example a Steel axe has 15 weight, and a fighter wielding it has 13 consitution and 13 speed, since the weight is larger than the constitution by 2 points, the Fighters speed is effectively decreased by 2 points, resting at an uncomfortably low 11 speed.
@@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 I don't remember because I only played it a little bit, but I believe CON was removed from 3 houses. Given he mentioned authority and if my memory is correct, I'd imagine Weird Guy wasn't even thinking of it.
@@michaelpage1288 makes sense, especially since con was a kinda detrimental stat, the slow units tended to have high con and always but poor speed, and some of the fast units tend to have stupid low con, to the point where they get doubled if they try wielding anything heavy. Also it made Nosferatu in Blazing blade a joke because you'd get doubled and lose the health you recovered
Tulok, you clearly played, enjoyed, and care about Hollow Knight. I'm proud of you. Looking forward to Silk Song? Maybe we can get a Hornet build after that's out.
BRUH why are so many people an asshole to this content creator. Don’t like his builds? Make you’re own, these are suggestions, not formulas. True Strike is fine if you’re not minmaxing, dork. Thanks for the years of entertainment Tulok, good video.
The Master Chief video is going to open with Tulok saying, "Psych! I already had this episode written, shot, and edited when that Hollow Knight episode aired."
I find it interesting how many class/race combos people seem to find for making the Knight. I was personally thinking of using Warforged for the race (and sticking to light armour, for the cloak). I didn’t have plans for a class but I probably would’ve ended up picking something like Eldritch Knight without thinking much about it. Overall this is a pretty cool build
this is an excellent build, from an excellent game! Funny how that works. When Silksong finally comes out, I'd love to see a Hornet build, but for now...ZOOOTE!!!
2:40 Just wonna say, yeah, the Knight is actually mute, none of the vessels can talk, which is proven with the poem about perfect vessels in which it states "No voice to cry suffering." of course you are no perfect vessel as it turns out a perfect vessel was an impossible thing to create. But its more likely you are impure as you have the ability to make choices throughout the game which perfect vessels are not meant to be able to do, which is shown in the same poem with "No mind to think. No will to break." Love the video btw. Will most likely try this out in game.
Why do you guys bully Tulok? You guys leave this precious gem of a man alone! He watches and plays things, does his research and true strike is a cantrip he can add to HIS OWN character build
The Knight is on the small side compared to pretty much everything except Zote. You can even argue that he is an infant or a just not fully grown Vessel yet compared to the Hollow Knight , and it would mean he is just a kid
I have this build set up as my back up character for the current DnD campaign I'm in. DM always has new characters start at the same level as the rest of the party. I asked the DM if I should start him out with equipment or not (it's supposed to be survival, though at this point we have the equivalent of starter gear)... Then realized that at this point that improved pact weapon makes it so that you need basically nothing to function. You summon your own weapon AND focus just by class abilities! Also side note- I appreciate that this build doesn't rely on Unearthed Arcana, since many tables ban it.
Welp, my and now I've had my first character death. Immediately after becoming relevant and in the middle of her character arc. So now this back up is actually being used.
This video really makes me wanna see a build based on the protagonist of the other metroidvania-inspired tough-as-nails platformer - Madeline from Celeste.
Numbers Of Bndl honestly I think he has lower wisdom than int, he is short tempered and challenges Keith because he’s jealous of him (he is the stereotypical lancer character, meaning he challenges the leader).
I know you don't usually do duo builds, but Miguel and Tulio from The Road to El Dorado are arguably the most iconic Bard and Rogue combo in animation so you should give them a go.
At the beginning I wasn't to sure about hexblade warlock instead of Eldritch knight, but that doesn't synergize with sorcerer. Also yes I would absolutely love for The Knight and/or Hornet in Smash.
Huh, Kalashtar. Wouldn’t have thought that myself. Mild spoilers, but I was thinking Warforged. Created using a mixture of organic and inorganic, held together by a mysterious magic, and built for a specific purpose. This is still great though, and a different angle than I expected.

Agreed
Sorlock are always fun.
Also Divine Soul Sorcerer + Hexblade Warlock.
Nice.
I have been dreaming of some hollow knight builds... Can't wait for hollow knight from hollow knight! Not the knight from hollow knight who is right here who fights the hollow knight. You know. The one from hollow knight.
I'll stop talking now.
A build a never knew, I wanted
Thanks Tulok!
Two other ways to build The Knight
If your DM allows UA, Twilight cleric/Kensei Monk, to represent the whole darkness thing, as well as the Knights training under the Nail Masters (Plus the god skill)
If without UA, Oath of the Crown paladin (Flavor it as the power of a god king rather than a direct oath to a king), And warlock or Devine Soul sorcerer depending on your preference.
I would love to see the other types of ememies get there own build like hornet, broken vessel, the mantis, and grim.
Ay I was looking for a tulok video to watch while I work, love the videos thanks for the content
Why is everyone mean to Tulok, all of these videos are not only fun and entertaining but the characters are always super well built. If you don't like their builds then go start your own Channel and build it yourself
Looking back at this with the new content, a reborn would be a good race choice.
"Eldritch Blast is a bad spell"
(Warlocks would like to know your locasion)
I’d love a bug man race in DnD. If you can have a fish with legs you can have a big bug. A big beautiful sentient bug man, bugs are cool
But not as cool as pistol shrimp. Imagine shrimpkin and crabkin.
Huh...I expected a Tiefling or Aasimar because of the Knight's connection to Higher Beings and god and Void and all that, but Kalashtar fits nicely. Excellent build as always, my Barbrarian friend
Simic Hybrid could work too, after all The Vessels were created through experimentation and blending the traits of different creatures.
The fucking. Fluke joke. Really good.
The whole video is just this guy nerding out and I love it
This got me doing a hollow knight play through and waiting for the next campaign that I can make this build in.
The knight can’t speak he’s an empty vessel, “no voice to cry suffering”
If the Knight was in Smash Bros Ultimate I would go out and buy a Nintendo Switch to play it. I love Hollow Knight and Little Ghost that much, they are an adorable little badass.
(Also don’t worry Tulok, you weren’t the only one fooled by Millibelle and those weird guys in Deepnest. And yes the game is really dang hard)
If you look all of the nails in Hallow Knight are actually sharpened on the sides. This means they actually look more like swords. After upgrading your nail for the first time, you can look in your inventory and see this for yourself.
I both groaned and smiled when he said "idk it must be a fluke."
What if they were half-orc, best bug edition
Pros: boosts to strength and con, plus relentless endurance give a glass cannon some extra staying power.
Can't argue with that logic
"I don't think the knight is mute."
*No voice to cry suffering*
I am in love with the amount of salt you have in order to keep adding [True Strike].
I don’t know how other people felt about your men in black video, but I really liked the more conceptual build, instead of a specific character build. It would be cool to see how a hunter from the Monster Hunter would be made. Love you videos, keep em up!
Especially with Silksong having such hype around it, a Hornet build could be incredible
2:45
all the knights are indeed completely mute, "No voice to cry suffering", they were made with that (and other) purposes in mind.
5:54
because the spiders dont use tools to climb, there is nothing for the knight to collect to gain that ability, and mantis loose that ability with age, so they made a tool for it
I love how like a day after tolok made this video some guy on the unearthed arcane posted a pdf for a hollow knightcharacter
Episode #193 of the Fire Emblem stats: The Knight.
The Knight is great with lances, swords (since the needle’s both), and faith. They’re bad at riding and flight because they’re smol as well as authority since they're a solo character.
They have great attack, Magic, and dexterity but both defenses are doodoo.
is constitution bad as well?
@@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 Constitution isn't a stat in Fire Emblem.
HOLY CRAP YOU ACTUALLY USED MY IDEA THANK YOU SO MUCH
The Master Chief video is going to open with Tulok saying, "Psych! I already had this episode written, shot, and edited when that Hollow Knight episode aired."
Great vid as usual. I have no idea what I just watch but I have wanted to see a non-human build. Now let's see a King Shark build!!!
Thanks! This is amazing, I would love a Hornet build aswell please
this is an excellent build, from an excellent game! Funny how that works.
When Silksong finally comes out, I'd love to see a Hornet build, but for now...ZOOOTE!!!
Sorry that people feel the need to dismiss your determination to watch/play the things. Thanks for the interesting video and build!
At the very least a Mii swordfighter costume with a new remixed track.
The warlock aspect seems appealing. Though I would have gone with Eldritch Knight.
Thankfully we got True Strike. I was worried this would be an underpowered build
Why do you guys bully Tulok? You guys leave this precious gem of a man alone! He watches and plays things, does his research and true strike is a cantrip he can add to HIS OWN character build
*I've been waiting for this!*
I wasn't expecting this, it was a surprise but a welcome one to be sure
Love the build, hope I'll find a dnd party to test it out one day
The Knight is on the small side compared to pretty much everything except Zote.
Aaaaah, I've been thinking about this for so long, why haven't I seen this video?
I'm sure I went through the entire backlog at some point!
This video really makes me wanna see a build based on the protagonist of the other metroidvania-inspired tough-as-nails platformer - Madeline from Celeste.
I don't know anything about Hallow Knight as a game but the Knight is wonderful and thank you.
Why would they say you don't play these games you make so many references.
It's great.
The paladins from Voltron would be cool in D&D.
They’re named paladins but their skills are more suited towards Int than Cha.
Yuuki Kuroutarou they’re pilots so int is important
Yuuki Kuroutarou besides lance, lance isn’t that smart
Numbers Of Bndl honestly I think he has lower wisdom than int, he is short tempered and challenges Keith because he’s jealous of him (he is the stereotypical lancer character, meaning he challenges the leader).
I need that Zote Bugsnax intro piece on loop
We need to makes this a “big hit”
I know you don't usually do duo builds, but Miguel and Tulio from The Road to El Dorado are arguably the most iconic Bard and Rogue combo in animation so you should give them a go.
At the beginning I wasn't to sure about hexblade warlock instead of Eldritch knight, but that doesn't synergize with sorcerer. Also yes I would absolutely love for The Knight and/or Hornet in Smash.
I think I've been asking for this since I found this channel
i absolutely love this build video and would super love a hornet build!
Huh, Kalashtar. Wouldn’t have thought that myself. Mild spoilers, but
I was thinking Warforged. Created using a mixture of organic and inorganic, held together by a mysterious magic, and built for a specific purpose. This is still great though, and a different angle than I expected.
