Smart training right there! You've developed quite a team of hunting partners! Also, the manning process was great too! I'm so happy for what you did for these hawks! You've unlocked their hunting potential amazingly well!
@@Hawk-riders your amazing , fearless alpha is awesome to see. Thank you for sharing with us. I'm new to your channel but will be subscriber 4 life!!! P.s....a little peanut butter & jealous cuz I live in the states lol(๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)
This is probably the best video I've seen about manning and getting the birds trained to the lure and rabbits, getting your hands in there and having them being used to being touched. Our season is about to start here in the US, and I think it's going to be a great year.
Hey! I have a question, how does it come that the haws don't try to attack the ferret? How does it not see it as a prey? Amazing video by the way! I enjoyed it a lot and it was very educational!! :)
Hey that’s a great question and really glad you liked the video, because the Harris hawk is a pack animal with lots of training and care they learn that the ferret is there to help. That’s why most people use white ferrets so they don’t look like rabbits 😃. Most Harris hawks will work over ferrets quite happily.
@@Hawk-riders thank you very much for ur answer, I understand now. I have another question, I have a almost 2 year old Harris Hawk myself but I'm quit scared for the first time free flight. I think he's ready for it, but I'm not so sure about myself. I don't really have some telemetry to my name yet. Any tips or advice? :))
On Alibaba etc you can buy knife proof gloves. They look like they'd be perfect for the feeding they aren't puffy gloves light weight look chain mail or woven wires but the videos look good. Razor sharp knifes so cut through them. These birds claws might peirce but mayb won't. Worth a try for 5.95 for sure.
Yer there all free lofted at fat weight and bowed out together in a big mew when there flying. Harris hawks can kill each other, but it’s rare it normally happens when there not bonded very well. Just don’t drop there weight to quick and get the sharing training sorted and you should be fine John 😃
The hands involved makes a lot of sense, but have you ever actually been injured and how do they differentiate between what is your hand and what is edible meat?
Since my last comment I have thought more about having a cast, I have a question, can the Harris hawks live together or kept separate, If they haven't grown up together. I heard that at fat weight they can, and at hunting weight the can’t. I would appreciate your thoughts on this , if I do get another should they be kept separate, I appreciate that there will be an introduction period that will be necessary.
Yer just be abit careful with it; it all depends on how they get on, a good way is build 2 pens side by side then have a window so they can see each other
hi John, I will over the moult, over hunting season I keep them in a big mews so they can see each other but not get to each other, better safe than sorry when there young 😊
You know your obsessed and getting ready when your propagating quail, pulling permits to release wildlife, and think about Raptors before coffee in the mornings =P
Hi great video. I have a 3 year old male Harris. Wonderful bird, not a brilliant hunter, but we are a great team and hunt 3/5 days a week. I would like to have a pair (not for breeding, so a pair of males perhaps). Do you think I will face challenges inroducing a second Harris to a mature bird? You raised the pair in the video together, just wondered if I would have problems inroducing a second, or are those group instincts reliable whatever the circumstances?
Hi mate, I have 2 brother raised together but the rest I just keep together bowed out then start hunting and flying. As long as you take them slow and there nice birds you should be fine. Chief my male I just put in with them. And they all just bond
Hi. Can you advise how you integrated the female into the mix.? We have brother and sister but got a few weeks apart. Want to fly them together but unsure how to get them in a cast
you should still be aware that they are still wild. I had a pet crow that lived outside and got too close to my raptor.. ended up as lunch. felines and small canines could be too.
Can you help? I’m trying to get my falcon to jump on my glove I tried everything I put food on my glove before he had food and waited for 8 minutes but he still didn’t want to jump.
he only puts his mouth on the meat and then his leg. when i bring it closer to him he jumps. but, when i bring it out of his reach he doesnt even try. @@Hawk-riders
Caitlyn O'Neill nope, Ive been flying and captive breeding BOP for for 30 odd years, what I will say is don’t ever think about getting a bird if you haven’t the time. They need to be flown and exercised practically daily, also all British BOP need to ringed and registered with BC. And have a A10 certificate
More efficient and they can finish off more of their prey. Lots of reasons? Nothing more impressive to me than watching two harris hawks team up on a rabbit. Really the perfect raptor for falconry IMO.
I want one. Like a parrot just sitting on its perch looking regal. They don't make much noise either. I'll feed it cooked chicken though im not risking bacteria like that. Cooked meats will be way better. Or ill just boil the 💩 out of the mice etc then feed. Bird still gets to open them up.

I think he’s the last person that needs to be reminded of that Will. Why did you have a raptor?
Which is best hunter? A male or female Harris Hawk? ( for the average Harris Hawk)
Females tend to be abit more argressive and you have the extra size with them as well 😀

What are the rules and regulations of keeping a Harris hawk ?
Evan Bruford you need to have a falconry license. Google has lots of info

Очень круто 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Why anyone would want to fly 3 hawks on one rabbit is beyond me. Just why?
Ouarda Benghida ask nature. Nature is the one that evolved Harris hawks to hunt small mammals in packs. Often packs much larger than just three birds.
More efficient and they can finish off more of their prey. Lots of reasons? Nothing more impressive to me than watching two harris hawks team up on a rabbit. Really the perfect raptor for falconry IMO.
