good (and funny) video ... my 8yo boy and I got turned around just last night Elk hunting and spent about 3 hours finding our way back out in the dark. I almost didn't throw in the head/cap lights...definitely a permanent part of the day pack now (and enough extra batteries and a usb charger for the phone). part of the reason we got turned around was that my gps software on my phone had been throwing errors all day (onXMaps) and I was doubting it .... had I packed my compass I could've put those doubts to rest (it was right and my orientation was wrong). But all and all a fun night busting brush in the woods :)

Hey Rhino, the guy you mentioned that drove off the road, was that the guy driving the Subaru w/kayaks on top? I think he was river guiding during the summer. Reason I ask is because I saw the initial missing report on the news here in Washington but as typical there was no follow up & I never heard about the outcome. Great info on your vid...thx.

He was killed instantly. They think he fell asleep and drove off a 60 foot embankment near Stanley lake in the Sawtooths. The outpouring of support was really great to see. It's good to know that so many strangers will come out and look for you if you are lost. =)

MySurvivalSkills101 Thanks for the reply. That is so unfortunate. Yes it is good that so many folks came out to help. I've been up in the Sawtooth range many times and really enjoy the scenery up there. Thanks again for the update and always go prepared.

If you have plenty of water go up. If not, go down.
