This woman will save my life and my marriage. I just found out about her last night and have been absorbing her for 24 hours subconsciously passively listening in my sleep in the background and am actively seeking her book. Thank YOU for this recovering awkward person for showing the rest of us STILL awkwardly practicing people there is HOPE for us! THANK YOU!
3 days ago I was searching on RUclips for a good men perfume for dating. From video to video, I suddenly found myself in Vanessa's channel. starting from that moment, I forgot the perfume and I couldn't stop myself from watching her talks. I can tell that I become addicted to her. It might because she is beautiful, attractive, passionate, talkative, nice, feminine, or smart. But what I am really sure about is the fact that from every single video I learnt something new from Vanessa. she is very insightful, thanks to coincidence that guided me to reach here!
Casey Gerald's TED talk is a great example of using body language to emphasize the message. It's my favorite TED talk and now I know why. Thanks for sharing!
So interesting. I have seen her interviews and could learn and follow her notes. They make good sense to me. I teach and body language is so incredibly useful to draw attention and keep the students engaged all the time.
The more a presenter's gestures or vocal inflections seem inflated or exaggerated, the more I feel the need to scrutinize and congruency-check the content of the presentation. This is especially true of many TED talks.
Very interesting Vanessa, you have what it takes, I am starting to broadcast more and i found your positive communication tactics study.. This will be very helpful. I think people who are very passionate about what they do then they will use hand gestures with their communication. I love Tedtalks. I am making the Tedxtalks apart of my life. I will smile for real because they helped me with my self improvement mission. I want to keep a genuine smile. Keep working hard with self improvement, growth, and living my best life.
Hello professor Thank you so much for your help and advice, I really appreciate your job. I wish you happiness and peace under the sky of prosperity. All the best. Take care and have a good time. Your Student from Algeria.
I disagree. She seems very relaxed. I think she is so rehearsed and well versed in what she’s presenting she can move quickly. Furthermore she has a lot of information to present, and I imagine she tries to keep a presentation from being too long.
Regarding hand gesture frequency and view frequency of TEDtalks, this is just a correlation. Correlation is not causation. Some other factor might be contributing both the high frequency of hand gestures as well as views. This makes more sense if you consider that a TEDtalk consisting just of hand gestures and nothing else would be unlikely to go viral. She’s implying that more hand gestures converts to more views, but this would have to be tested experimentally. This is the danger of data mining.
+Frank Brown I see what you're saying, but that's a remarkable correlation - wonder what else was at play. There might not be much danger in adding some hand gestures to oral presentations - unless it is overused, forced, etc.
@@stuartchilongozi2439 Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your comment. My point is that I don't think a so-so Talk could be made significantly more appealing if the presenter merely waved their arms about more. Conversely, if one listened to and did not watch a really good TEDTalk with lots of body language, I don't think it's estimation would drop to mediocre.
So... contempt and disgust are what I missed. My question is based on your method to be certain that you read the facial expression right, when you ask to have them express their feelings by asking if they are clear or have any concerns and they don't respond with an explanation; or going over the aspect of the topic that caused the initial facial expression you notice it changed, do you leave it to say the individual stance has been adjusted or make a third attempt?
Hello Professor What you present is really interesting and amazing,i do appreciate your job.I wish you peace and happness under the sky of prosperity. Take care and have a good time. All the best. Your Student from Algeria
I'm a little confused about the TED talk study, she said more people watched the talks with more non-verbals, but as you have to watch to see if there are non-verbals or not, and how many, how do the people who didn't watch know what the content was without watching?
Great Stuff! Also more than a little of NLP being reinvented bit by bit 30 years later. Looking at the facial feedback hypothesis as an example of the re-invention.
I was comparing myself to the computer rendering of faces and found that when in a relaxed pose, I favor the introvert. However, I noticed that in a relaxed pose, my head tilts upward slightly, and by tilting it down I start to favor the extrovert. Just curious if this is the same for anyone else.
Blue is perceived as a friendly and trustworthy color. Red is a power color. Blue might look better on TV. But I'm surprised she didn't even mention the other.
Well if you're not attractive, you can increase other areas like competence in your work (confidence), be well-groomed, good posture, smile more, have empathy, etc. Look at bernie ecclestone, a short ugly dude, but is a master at sales, negotiation, people.
John Cavanaugh Ive never met anyone who is attractive ( has high cheekbones and strong jawline) with a bad social life. Charm comes from two things appearance and the way you talk.
Not sure about use of Shark Tank footage for analysis - those are heavily edited shows, so unless all of the raw footage is taken into consideration, I'd think it's a crapshoot... also, micro expressions - not a fan, especially if people aren't event able to clearly discern which one is which...
I am detail oriented, but don’t like to be restricted by a set schedule; can be organized but it takes a lot of effort, still trying to adapt the habit of making lists. So I am confused. Also, I can see how they studied Tedtalks, but Shark Tank?! Isn’t it super edited and can be unreliable to study patterns?
Gerald Ford's inauguration was the shortest 8 min long??? Sure because it was held on Friday, August 9, 1974, in the East Room of the White House following the resignation of President Richard Nixon. It wasn't the typical massive inauguration. Scary that they included this and makes me wonder about the rest of these conclusions.
I think she mentioned that this was merely "interesting" and didn't draw a lot of conclusions off of that fact. There will always be outliers and nuances that are hard to see from the data, but the good thing is, there will always bee outliers in either direciton if you have enough data, so they effectively cancel out. I feel good conclusions should be drawn from average data, while investigating deeply into outliers. But again, she didn't really dwell on that point much
Is it true that language is a barrier to interaction with people ? What if a native american wants to talk with native italian. Can't it be happen in english or it has to be happened in italian ?
I've seen gestures where the hands go up and down repetitively almost like their trying to illustrate the big picture. Some kinesthetic gestures like that could be too distracting.
There are claims that the "seven universal facial expressions" are based on faulty observations (e.g. the tribespeople were "trained" until they could "see" the emotions ...)
Uh ... once someone starts to watch a TED talk, or any other You-Tube video, it is counted as a view, so the influence of hand-gestures here seems to be a bit irrelevant, no?? So, does that mean this is "fake-science"? I might hazard a guess that talks with more hand gestures give more opportunities for icon images that look interesting or exciting, and not to mention like the porn still frames, they have to pick a frame where there is some kind of "money shot" regardless of the denomination, be it porn, or cute face, interesting chart, or what we all know ... use audio-visual aids, bright colors, smile, etc ... the icon of the talk being the preview. Or one can look at this cynically like one can view a commercial or sales pitch ... when someone doesn't have a good product or anything to say they concentrate on BS. And the other side is that BS appeals to stupid people, so we have incentivized people to try to look and act stupid and be moved by stupid stuff ... like all the reality shows on TV that have gone on for many years now and nothing on any of them has ever been of any importance.
I tend to use verbal cues to rattle their low neurotic personalities and also show I recognize a lack of empathy. Things like "Kiss my ass Bob...you douche." Or you can try "How about you get off your ass and do it yourself, you self centered ass hat." I then reinforce my statements with a universal body language hand gesture using my middle finger and a smile on my face. Then walk out of the building. Find the nearest computer and use the search terms "Jobs in my area." Repeat as needed.
Great content. Distracted by the headworn mic not being worn, and the mic hitting her throughout the ENTIRE presentation. Too bad. BTW, low neurotic here.

She is the best! I have been following her since freshman year of college, absolutely the best Vanessa in the world lol.
Well done! The world needs more of this.

Fantastic presentation on people skills! Thanks Vanessa!
Breathtaking woman attending to her hands. By THE way , I think she IS better doing hand GESTURES than THE rest of polítics and youtubrerds! ❤
Truly amazing! Fantastic presentation!
Her voice is soooooooooo soothing.

curious about what is the criteria for ''emotional language''.
I love her.
I dont and she is ugly
who doesnt ?
I am in love with her!
One of the best talks I've heard on this subject. Thank you.
Beautifully put together
Charming presentation!
She is speaking fast, she is nervous. Not being mean but I love her.
She does have social anxiety which I can relate to but yeah good observation 👍 and that makes two of us 😹
I would also like to add that it could also be because of a time limit. I cant say for sure but yeah 😹 But keep staying awesome! 💜
I disagree. She seems very relaxed. I think she is so rehearsed and well versed in what she’s presenting she can move quickly. Furthermore she has a lot of information to present, and I imagine she tries to keep a presentation from being too long.
Interesting talk, quite compelling!

As an Italian I genetically talk more with my hands. Yay!
Awesome Vanessa! You are wonderful!
Wow, I've done communication , but this is really something.very educative

She is saying the most exciting or captivating presentations on Ted Talk had more body language

Hopefully any contempt should be heard as an opportunity to explore or as a feedback?
I love listening too her she has so much knowledge on wat she does it’s crazy I’ve learned a lot but she has so much more too teach
She is amazing!
This is a very interesting and informative video. I learned something.
Do you have something where you show how to create your personal brand
Fabulous!!! Loved this.
She is using all these tricks on us.
The only sensible comment.
and they are not very effective.
Rightfully so.
It would be weird if she ignores what's taught...
@@kefsound Not sure what this 2 year old comment means, it clearly is better gesture than most of teh people have
this video is epic! gonna buy her book asap.

Vanessa is like the guy from the Serie called ´´ Lie To Me´´ .
Random: Guy Kawasaki tells entrepreneurs to use slides with a dark background. This video shows one reason why: blinding illumination on her face.
She is freaking adorable!
Sensational!
Very good 👍

Awesome talk. I love your work, Vanessa.

This was gold. And by the way, Love or hate Donald Trump but he is the king of hand gestures!
