    Awesome video. I'm having a similar problem, except I very a very delayed start . Sometimes I have to hold the key for 10+ seconds before it will attempt to turn over. So far I have changed the battery, plugs and wires, and the starter.

    • @survivalcomms
      @survivalcomms  3 года назад

      Does everything click over when you place the key into the on position or is that delayed ? Thanks for watching !

    • @youknow9328
      @youknow9328 2 года назад +1

      Mine was delayed too but the pump kicked on. It’ll do a clicking sound when it sounds like it’s starving for power. It acts like an old bad stater bendix but I replaced that twice now and same thing. Starter relay switch maybe? Thoughts if you have any please. Now it won’t start at all. Even with a new battery and starter it’ll do this.

    Found this video and used it and a voltmeter to trouble shoot the electrical issues on my '05 Ranger 500 2x4. Small differences in pin location on the wiring harness, mine was part #4011089 for my model. Different but close enough for me to determine that it was the PDM/ ECM. $350.00 and a new unit later and I'm up and running. I'll most likely wind up having the old unit rebuilt to be kept as a spare as according to a Polaris tech these are notorious for going out. Mine went out at 123hrs.

      I'm going to do a video on repairing these devices. There is a large market in rebuilding them and from what I can tell it is not problematic to do so. I am glad you found it useful and thanks for watching !

    Ironic, that your Polaris is more complicated and involved when looking for an ignition problem than my old '79 Thunderbird. Crude technique I used, checked battery and connections, then jumped across starter relay, starter spun, so started to backtrack.

    • @survivalcomms
      @survivalcomms  5 лет назад +1

      The vehicles of yesteryear were certainly simpler. That PDM is an engineered to fail item IMHO. It encapsulates almost the entire electrical system in one item. I will be rebuilding it in another video and keeping it on the shelf for the future. Thanks for watching !

    I have a 2006 Polaris ranger 500 4x4 and while I was slowing down it just stopped running.
    I replaced the starter and solenoid and the PCM and the coil. It will crank but no spark.
    Also replaced ingition switch. Still no spark. When I got it home after it stopped running I pulled the spark plug their wasn't much left. Someone said crank sensor but still can't find it on the motor.
    Just don't know how much these boxes are,, this ranger is like a money pit . It's been down more than I've used it , and hunting season is coming so I'd like to get it done

    • @survivalcomms
      @survivalcomms  2 месяца назад

      The crank sensor would deadline it for sure. I actually had one on a Jeep cherokee
      that died on me and I got home by tapping it with a screwdriver several times ( what could it hurt) . The crank sensor will be close to the flywheel on the passenger side IIRC. This box was a couple hundred rebuilt. I kept the old one planning on rebuilding it but never got around to it. Thanks for watching !

      I found the pickup coil for the startor, but I haven't gotten underneath it yet. One thing it did do is eat up the spark plug like it got a power surge, because the center of the plug was gone like it was fried. I'm at my wits end. Hunting season is coming up and that's how I get around, and I welded a winch on the back roll cage to do the heavy lifting for me. I'm going to check the PDM box next and thanks for getting back to me

    • @robertleski3307
      @robertleski3307 2 месяца назад

      I got under it but never found the crank sensor. The new problem is that it will only crank twice and it just stops until I take out the plug. I don't know where I can get a PDM from on eBay they want a arm and a leg and I'm retired on social security and veterans disability check so money is tight,, so any idea where I can get one that won't break the Bank. Thanks for your help again

    Thanks for the video. I have a 2005 Ranger 2x4 that won't start. I can jump the solenoid but cannot start with the key. I tested things like you demonstrated in the video and did not find continuity on the switch side of the PCM. Probably a dumb question but what do you think I should check next?

    • @survivalcomms

      It sounds like it is in the box. There is B+ at the switch going in but not coming out ? Check all the usual suspects but its likely the box . I kept the old one I need to open it up and see what failed. Let me know what you find . Thanks for watching !

    I have a 2015 Polaris Ranger 570 Midsize with a wiring problem. I have called the Polaris dealer who told me that Polaris does not have a wiring diagram for this machine....????How did they build them? Do you know of a source for a wiring schematic for this machine? I have checked with TechSpark, but their wiring diagram is so small as to be unreadable, even when I try to expand and print it. I have looked for Clymer publications, but they do not list my machine in their manuals. Do you know of a source for a wiring schematic for my machine?

    • @survivalcomms
      @survivalcomms  2 года назад

      The factory service manual has a wiring diagram. The dealer doesn't want you to have it or they just dont want to bother selling you a manual. Best thing to do is seek out a factory service manual on ebay. It might cost 40 or 50 bucks but it is worth it. I hope this helps ! Thanks for watching !

    Ive got a problem with my 04 polaris ranger 500 the power to my fuel pump will work then will stop.no power to it .ive changed the pump cause it was weak. But no power.so i wired up a hot wire from battery to a switch and to fuel pump but after riding for a short time it quits. Then check the original pink wire for power it has power rehook it up as factory and works a short time then quits. Bogs down bad then backfires like its starving for fuel. I put a new carb on it fires right up but doesn't rev up.it starts easy but have to play with the gas pretal. There are 3 boxes under the hood middle one has a raised bump in it but can't find info on them

      Without a service manual or a schematic it would be difficult to diagnose. It may be a problem in the ignition system cutting off intermittently. Thanks for watching !
