Daniel Kessler is the glue that keeps Interpol together.

  • @alejandrodavidbolanos82

Kessler is the Musical Director. that's leading to something.
Drummer is fantastic in between styles, including jazz and punk.
Paul is the energy, the soul live.
Carlos a genius, Carlos is Carlos so he came up for the audition without an instrument.
    That's Interpol originally.
    Interpol continues forward.
I'm still digesting all this marvelous compositions since 2020.December 18th.

totally, I was trying to explain to a friend how fogarino can switch from sounding like post punk/industrial even and then swing a beat like a jazz drummer on a note. solid fills too. very underrated in my opinion.

Selvin Cunningham It's the extra built-in nostalgia feature haha Wish I had an HD version but then that would destroy it.

Love how all the footage is from the 2002 show where Paul was so wasted he sung like a goat and messed up lyrics...Obstacle 1... hilarious

Having written song lyrics, I can tell you that 'meaning' doesn't always play a part; sometimes shit just sounds good. It's an aural art form after all.

I agree. Sometimes it just feels and sounds right, and it doesn't necessarily have to make sense. Paul has actually said some lines are just that, phrases that sounded good.

Absolute opposite, their live presence is better than their studio presence. Paul controls everything in complete statis, Carlos is statuesque and completely nails every note. The footage here is not a good example of their live work.

It is probably the lyrics that have made me stick with this for so long. I still don't get some of them and try to find new meanings in them. The band stays as long as the intrigue. I thinm they will stay with me forever because I will never get over with the lyrics.

  • @SoilentGr33n

They actually aren't that bad out of tune, it's this song with all the major seconds everywhere. These sort of chords are like a black paintjob on a car.
If you ever bend the strings ever so slightly sharp, it will sound like this, or if you are ever so slightly off, a major second will jump out of the mix like a sore tooth.
Enjoy it for the quality of the composition and especially the incredible bass lines, but being a bit out of tune is part of many shows, and this song is built on chords that are absolutely unforgiving.

For me it's ok to remember the bands that influences you but I get that if your music is so close to your fav bands you want to avoid at all cost to mention them

    • @blunderless
      @blunderless Год назад +2

it’s not that interpol is shy about their influences, in fact daniel, paul, and sam were also vocal about their influences
it’s just that none of them except carlos really were too fond of joy division. in fact interpol never really sounded like jd to me in any of their records.

he was tired of touring and wanted to stay in nyc, he didn’t get along with sam or paul and things became awkward, he didn’t want to be a musician anymore.
other than not being too fond of the bass, he was actually quite miserable in interpol after antics.

boo. They're really going to pretend that their sounding like Joy Division is just a coincidence. And the one punk not even wanting to site them directly as an immediate influence?! Hate when pretentious musicians don't want to admit what bands influenced them, especially when it is obvious.
They make some good music, but lost some respect for these hipsters after watching that.
