When your computational domain is smaller, you can not capture the flow mechanics properly. Your domain needs to be very large at behind of the object in particular. Your domain needs to be around 100 times the characteristic length of the object.
Not 100 times, but of course what you are saying is true,except for that idea
you are right, the 100 times is the typical value, which is deduced from the potential flow theory (panel method).
