Legends in classical Malinke drum orchestra. They are traditional drum sets, a cult more than 1000 years old, and soli dancers belong to such an ceremonical event. Looong ago I learned this drumming aaand dances in Schweinfurt Germany from direct close apprentises of Famoudou in Workshops. Fanta Kaba was there and 2 fantastic teachers, with Silvia Kronewald + Paul Engel, both late, Lilian Friedberg has been learning from them too, a tragical cancer has captured her, I am very sad for her and the Chicago Djembe Project. Lilian is a Master Djembefola too and had fun teaching many pupils on this traditional old rhythms, Dundun, Sangba, Kenkeni, Side drum and Solo djembe with full metal blocks on every bass drum playing complex sets. There is disciplin in every dance, similar to our old classic composers like Bachs "Kunst der Fuge" aso. just not in harmonious rather in multi-ryhthm scores. Oh I so much miss Lilian and Silvia, so great gifted ladies. 💖💫
This was at the French Cultural Center in Conakry. I'm guessing 2013. A great night. Solo Keita, Nansady Keita, Sayon Camara, of course Famoudou Konaté and many dancers and chanters. The arrangements are primarily from Les Ballets Africains where Famoudou was the lead soloist for 25 years. Famoudou also played sangban solos while dancing in fast circles during those performances!

The best djembéfolla or djembé maesters are from mandingue ( mandingo) Malinké from Guinée Conakry or Mali.
