I have made several purchases over the past year and have come to believe your word is good enough for me. Both the products you sell directly and those you recommend have never disappointed. From the BHK PLSK1, to the Pathfinder Fire Steel to the Rail Rider pants I've ordered...and everything in-between, all have surpassed my expectation. Rarely will I ever take the word of someone without skepticism. You are the exception to the rule Dave. For that I [and many] are appreciative. Thanks.
My personal experience with Condor (own 5 of their products). Pros: Tough as nails. Low price. Awesome sheaths. Great edge retention. Well thought out designs. Cons: Inconsistent edge grinds. Every time. Nothing 30 minutes with a grinder and a stone won't fix, though, and at least it proves they are hand made, unlike every other knife in the price range. Overall: Some of the best knives out there. Been thinking about picking up one of their axes for a while, thanks for the review Dave.
I am a big fan of Condor products... as a matter of fact I have had both these axes for over a year..I actually use my axes on an everyday basis. I use them for roughing wood carvings. and these axes hold an edge like no other.. I make my entire living carving wood so you can guess how important having a good axe is to me.
I have several Condor kife and tool products and have had absolutely no issues with them. I have the woodcrafters axe, the Hudson Bay knife, and the engineers bolo machette on order to be delivered Monday. I didnt know you were going to carry their gear. Thew history of the Condor company is really impressive.
I agree with other viewers about Condor quality. I only have one product, a machete, but it really impressed me, especially the awesome sheath that came with it and all at a very reasonable price.
Dave take care of yourself as this frankinstorm hit land. They say it can have an impact as far west as Ohio. God bless you man and thank you for everything that you have done to help me and my family learn.
Just got the Scout Hatchet, not through Dave, and i can vouch for it. Great sheath, easy to sharpen, and a comfortable grip. Pared with my Condor Bushlore knife it makes an excellent kit!
Love your videos Dave. i cant tell you what kind of looks i get from my friends when i go camping with them and bring little more than my Beaver Bill belt ax and my Wildie blanket, its priceless!
I have this axe and I love it. I discovered it on a trip to Pigeon Forge, Tn. I always stop in at Smokey Mtn. Knife Works and usually check out the lastest and greatest knives and multitools. I discovered the condors by accident and because of the price I had to try one. This is an great axe. I would recommend it to anyone.
Let me tell you something cool dave, I just returned to Maine from a trip to the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee and I picked up a Condor Stratos knife while I was down there. Well, for the money honest to god its a competitor!! The people at Esee, Kabar and Topps better watch there butts because Condor is flying up the ranks. This knife takes a convexed edge like a razor and is built like a tank! For 42.00 out the door price, how can you argue with that! Condor even commented on my facebook to length after my positive review, thats a big plus in my book! Shows they got class and makes a regular joe like me want to buy more from them.
Iv got the Double bit with 24" handle and its amaizing! My every day carry knife is the 5" basic bushcraft that I reground to a spear point, and I also have the Kukri. The condor line are great products and I will be getting more of there stuff in the future.
We cut hedge rows for fence posts and we kept everything else for firewood. I grew up and cut my teeth on nothing but hedge (10 years of it). That stuff is some of the hardest wood to split. It really put some meat on my frame, let me tell ya! When I went to boot camp everybody asked me if I played football or wrestled in high school. I said no I split wood. They just looked at me with that funny confused look on their face.
Dave, look into Roselli Axes. Great design (won't get into every feature, but it's got a thick wedge shape to the head, a round hole in the head for the handle & it's a bearded axe). It'll chop & split better without getting stuck as much, the handle is more easily replaceable, and it hangs on your belt better (as well as being easier to use for a knife, because you can choke up on the handle). It costs between $100-$120 where I've seen them, but it might depend on where it's shipping from.
Thanks Dave, just found my new axe. I wonder if I spent more money on gear at your store than Gander Mountain over time haha. But you carry the best gear at a great price. Keep up the great work brother. Jeremy
@MrBpennington I live really close to the old collinsville axe co. It's a really cool looking old plant. Lots of history. They sent axes and machetes down to clear the panama canal.
HAY DAVE,I just placed my first order and this axe is part of that. i really like that you test and video before you put your logo on items. i`v been watching and learning from you for about 5 years now and trust your opinion. some day i`m going to make time to come to your school.thank you and please keep teaching......
The one pound condor axe is nice but it needs a lot of work. The edge is wide which is better for splitting rather than chopping. For a small axe it should have a flatter edge for carving and chopping. The handle on it was really nice. The groves are actually running parallel with the head like it should.
might get the ax but im enjoying this 30 dollar hatchet i got from lowes. the cover for the hatchet's blade was cheap canvas and just plain bad but me being me i made my own. actually 2 (one out of really nice thick leather that is fairly plain and a thinner one that's more decorative for showing off) and it works well. and im looking forward to testing out the ax that has Dave's seal of approval. thx for the review.
Hi Dave, what scares me, is that it's 1045, and my gut feeling is it's soft to take the abuse, so I think in heavy use, you have to keep sharpening it alot, because my Estwing is around 1055 or 1050 Bar tool steel, and sometime I feel, I wish it would have just a little bit more carbon, so it held a longer edge.
That doesnt look too bad. I dont feel comfortable swinging a small axe because we have nothing but hardwoods like oaks, maples, walnuts and hickories where Im at and you need some force on it but that handle length looks promising.
That's a lot more reassuring than my cold steel trailboss, came with a loose head, no edge (duller than the back of a butterknife), and all I got for my call to customer service was advice to replace the handle. I'll probably end up using the coldsteel to practice sharpening and pick up one of these axes instead.
That looks like a very good axe. I have always had good luck with Condor blades. I have 2 knives and a machete. All are holding up well. They all come with excellent sheaths. Looks like I may be buying that axe.
dave i bought the condor bushlore knife i paid around 30 bucks for it there scandi grind and i believe 1075 HC steel and the leather sheath is super heavy duty deffenatly a common man price for some one who wants a step up from a mora well worth the 30 dollars i paid for it ,oh btw the first run of them were horriable but all current model now are like 1/8 inch and basically got all the bugs worked outta them so to speak i deffenatly think they are a company to keep an eye on
Nice review Dave I've had a couple condor knives for a few years now and there tuff as nails and affordable witch is a important because its allot easier to pull the trigger on 80bucks than 200
I like it! I also like that lantern behind you in the video. For me it is the perfect axe handle length, as the ALICE pack is just about as tall as that axe is long. Price isn't too bad either. I was thinking about buying one from Sears for about $30, but with that kind of quality, and with it having the Pathfinder logo on it, and supporting the school, I would rather have a Pathfinder axe.
it might sound off topic, but i'd really appreciate it if anyone could tell me what brand that fedora is on Dave's top. im a big fan in fedora and I enjoy bushcraft, they kinda go along pretty well in Dave's videos.
Tell you what Bro Dave,, if these two axes are half as good as the "Ft Meigs 1812" belt axe you sale, then they are fine tools. I ordered that little belt axe several months ago, and have used it several times,, it is SO handy! Keep up the good work, thanks for the videos, and excellent products you offer for sale! THUMBS Up!~~John
Perhaps a video showing just how easy it is to replace a wooden axe handle in the wild, will help. Be sure not to leave out the step where you have to remove the bit of handle that is still wedged in the axe head.
Hi Dave, have you ever tried out a Fiskars axe, made in Finland? Those are not as traditional looking as yours because of the "plastic" handle but it's really bulletproof. A few years ago they made a demonstration were they run over the axe handle with a tractor and it didnt brake.
Dave, is that the standard bit length on that axe or did you request a longer one? It looks very similar to a Hudson's Bay profile. Nice video, I have been curious about those axes for awhile, very nice prices compared to the Swedish axes.
I plan to get one of these before next years camping season starts and totally like reasonable price point without a doubt. In my personal experience splitting wood is easy, feather sticks are somewhat easy, but felling is not. Would you consider this a good choice for small diameter felling? How about chopping dead wood fallen trees into manageable sections? Will it fit in a large inner or outer frame backpack? These are the thoughts and questions I have about the item maybe you can clarify.
Dave, I have used this same axe for a couple of yrs, only with the smaller 16" handle, and as a matter of fact, my son is in the Crags of Pikes Peak with it this weekend. I am a big fan of this axe and you are correct about the sheath...it's bomb proof. My question is, will you have the longer handles available in the future?
Dave, nice review. I have a Condor machete that I'm impressed with as well. If you had to choose between the 19" Wetterlings and the new 23" Condor, which one would you choose knowing both are quality tools?
Condor's designs can be a little hit and miss, Some are good and others are more questionable - but they do a very respectable axe. This is an excellent product for the dollar. I like the handle length on the pathfinder version better - turns it into a really respectable tool for heavier work and for lighter work.
Dave have you tried the husqvarna forest axe made by wetterlings? If so, what are your thoughts on it? I think it might fall in the common man common sense category. Wetterlings axe at almost half the price?
Dave, I've had my axe for about a week now and put it through some hard work. It functions great and is great to admire with its rustic line. I've noticed that the handle is just a bit loose in the head when pulling out of a cut; do you recommend another wedge, or is this normal for this product? Thanks.
Hello, Dave. Down here in Honduras this is one of the best options to get, as well as the Truper brand from Mexico. I noticed in one of your videos you prepared a common man´s kit and included a Truper. How would you rate the Condor versus de Truper? I have a Truper axe, it´s pretty good, except for the handle, that's made of metal too. I'm looking to get a wooden handled, and Condor seems to be a good option. A value tool. What's your take? Thanks, best wishes. Elmer.
curious which is better, tomahawk or axe? I've used plenty of axes but never a hawk. Given the number of handles I've replaced, seems it would be easier to replace a hawk handle, specially out in the woods.
i have the same problem. Was wondering if u have any ideas of how to tighten it? i put a few dings in it trying to fix it so i dont think i can send it back. Not sure how to wedge it more with the eye wedge that it has. Thanks Dave
Why did you use the top of the blade to shoot sparks? The butt is just as good, and leaves the edge intact. I'm compulsive about keeping an edge, myself.
Great review! I've just ordered the Condor Hudson Bay and am impatiently waiting for it to arrive. Their new Lochnessmuck looks interesting as well. If the HB works out well (quality wise) I'll be looking toward their golok and the double bit michigan axe. Decent carbon steel at good prices. Anyone else have experince with their products??
Say Heah Dave, Yup, I was going to go out with my New 3V GNS and my 2Hawks Warbeast Tomahawk. But I changed my mind and took my G.B. Small Forest Axe that reminded me the video your doing with this Condor Hatchet. Yeah, I went out with some friends and enjoyed a great Afternoon Delight. and had some Butcher Dhop Hot Dogsz/mustard and onions with Pork and Beans. Everything tastes better on a fire.. I want to take that Hawk out, But it might be a bit colder this week and the S.F.A. is a pretty good combo with my GNS. so I might just finish up those hot dogs the same as today, Ciao.,,.
@VuurwerkFan12 Idk why anyone would choose plastic over the tried and true American hickory. Wood handles have been around for centuries and there's a good reason for that. New isn't always better.
Dave...Brother...we had this talk a couple of weeks ago....no more time of...remember? Your videos are like crack to me, so lets not torture me any more ok? Keep em comin
I have a question please don't laugh. Lately some individuals have touted a Gerber Machete. It has a saw on top and blade on the bottom. Are these reliable to use as a low cost substitute for a axe and a saw? Or due you consider these to flimsy for use in place of a axe and saw?
I'm impressed. I'm looking for a couple of new axe's and a few people told me to steer clear of condor. Have you noticed any inconsistencies in quality? Also, how sharp are they 'right out of the box'?
Not sure if my previous comment went through or not but here it goes again. several months ago you mentioned in a comment on a video about there being a pathfinder M7 Scout rifle. Any update on that or is it classified? Thanks and Take Care.
Condor makes a pretty good perang too, hey Dave what's the update on the m7 scout my collection is begging me for one, and one with the pathfinder logo on it:)
I think its more of the fact that when you really need things to go good they tend to go to shit, and it is not impossible to break a polymer handle, but when your in a survival situation and shit is not going your way and your axe handle breaks. It is easier to replace a wooden handle than a polymer one.

I Love Condor's knives! I have the Hudson Bay, Rodan & Parang. All of them take a razors edge and they're tough as hell.

Like the lantern in the background at the end. Thanks for the review Dave
@MrBpennington I live really close to the old collinsville axe co. It's a really cool looking old plant. Lots of history. They sent axes and machetes down to clear the panama canal.
I really like the size of that one. Gonna hafta get me one .
HAY DAVE,I just placed my first order and this axe is part of that. i really like that you test and video before you put your logo on items. i`v been watching and learning from you for about 5 years now and trust your opinion. some day i`m going to make time to come to your school.thank you and please keep teaching......
If it's just a little loose, soak it for a couple weeks in boiled linseed oil, it'll tighten right up.
Save you the shipping.

love you man i love the show on discovery too thank you i learn so much i am 15 and an aspiring survivalist :)
I want to thank you for all the videos you share with us. I hope you will continue to make videos in the future as well.
Nice demo Dave, I thought about getting a Condor product for a while now they seem to be pretty well made and this video proves it.
dave i bought the condor bushlore knife i paid around 30 bucks for it there scandi grind and i believe 1075 HC steel and the leather sheath is super heavy duty deffenatly a common man price for some one who wants a step up from a mora well worth the 30 dollars i paid for it ,oh btw the first run of them were horriable but all current model now are like 1/8 inch and basically got all the bugs worked outta them so to speak i deffenatly think they are a company to keep an eye on

I've been eyeing this axe for a long time....thanks!
Wish it was still in stock, I need to get my kit together before winter hits; can't afford to pay for dead of winter gear so I'm only three season.
The way it looks I would say it is an excellent axe.
Two thumbs up on condor. Although not made in the U.S.A, still good quality.
you should do a canoe hunting and camping series
I like it! I also like that lantern behind you in the video. For me it is the perfect axe handle length, as the ALICE pack is just about as tall as that axe is long. Price isn't too bad either. I find Red oak incredibly hard to split. White oak and Pin oak here in MD much easier to split. Although i much prefer Maple in general

check out the Condor Golock machete also. I bought one and it is excellent.
Could've used that puppy when we went to get the logs for the tripod !!

they may not make leather gloves but i always use mechanix they have never let me down

Ah... Condor! Now that's common man! Great Job Dave!
Sorry guy...my mistake. It was not the Yurt series but the 21st Longhunter Series.
curious which is better, tomahawk or axe? I've used plenty of axes but never a hawk. Given the number of handles I've replaced, seems it would be easier to replace a hawk handle, specially out in the woods.
The price on the little one is great thanks dave i will have to pick one up
Great looking Axe
Keep up the good work Dave but what happened to the scout hawk on your web site
Anyone know where you can get one of these? I don't see them on the website.
www.selfrelianceoutfitters.com/greenland-axe/
Looks like it's hung more for carving than forest/camp work. What's the grain orientation of the handle like?
i have the same problem. Was wondering if u have any ideas of how to tighten it? i put a few dings in it trying to fix it so i dont think i can send it back. Not sure how to wedge it more with the eye wedge that it has. Thanks Dave
What do you think about Fiskars Axes?
They say it's much stronger than wood axes.
They will need less care that's for sure.
you gonna do a review of that butchor knife? and those seem lika a better price then wetterlings even!
Aww cool second comment, dave i love what you do please dont ever stop!
I haven't been able to find a single negative review on the pathfinder tomahawk. Where did you find the reviews you are referring to?
Dave...Brother...we had this talk a couple of weeks ago....no more time of...remember? Your videos are like crack to me, so lets not torture me any more ok? Keep em comin
i bought this axe from your websight and i love it but the axe handle is a little lose is that anything i should be woried about
Thank you for the video! Right now they show out of stock on your website. Will they be available again any time soon? thank you!
Hey Dave I was wondering if you ever got to test out the Wetterlings 19" carpenters axe?
I ask because I have one and I want your opinion on it.
If u put the head of the axe in water the wood swells up for a tight fit
Hey Dave, Hatchet/Axe, or a Machete.....if you had to choose ? Or would you always try to have 2 of the 3 ??
I have a question please don't laugh. Lately some individuals have touted a Gerber Machete. It has a saw on top and blade on the bottom. Are these reliable to use as a low cost substitute for a axe and a saw? Or due you consider these to flimsy for use in place of a axe and saw?
Did you coat the axe handle with some sort if oil? What's the length & width of the axe head? Thanks.
Condor produce some great products.
one thing I need to know be for I buy. Would you Dave would you trust your life on it? Thanks Brother. God Bless.
I'm impressed. I'm looking for a couple of new axe's and a few people told me to steer
clear of condor. Have you noticed any inconsistencies in quality? Also, how sharp are they 'right out of the box'?
you mentioned rain in Ohio. Where are you? I grew up east of Cleveland
i was thinking of getting that but bought the scout
Is there any ETA on the axe coming back to the store's website? Maybe a backorder sign up list? Thanks, Jason
Would you ever do a review of the Wetterling Back Country Axe?
Thanks for the advice. Take care.
Thanks for the grate video. Keep up the grate work. PS what about the powermonky
I really like the looks of the Condor axes but I've heard the steel is on the soft side. Did you find it holds an edge well?
Not sure if my previous comment went through or not but here it goes again. several months ago you mentioned in a comment on a video about there being a pathfinder M7 Scout rifle. Any update on that or is it classified? Thanks and Take Care.
Hey Dave, I was wondering when you might have the condor axe back on the Pathfinder store?
Nice looking axe, How good is there Hudson Bay Knife?
longer handle looks correct on it
Do you think I could shave down an Osage stave into a bow with that scout hatchet ??
I think i might have to pick one of those up, looked great.
That is a sweet axe. I like it. Will have to save up for it. Thanks for the quick reviews. Definitely helpful. God Bless.
Reminds me a lot of the cold steel trail boss.
Nice! Funny enough I've been thinking about buying one of their axes for a while now.
