This is the song that saved me from taking my life when I was 13. The thought of my mom singing this about me at my funeral and how much it would absolutely kill her saved my life. This song means so much to so many people. Thank you for reacting to this
I often wonder how these performers can actually sing these heart wrenchingly beautiful songs in public. Thank goodness for videos with the song being sung in a studio. I wonder how many times he actually took to get through it for this video. Thank you for sharing.
Another one he did more recently, in a similar vein, is 'Visiting Hours.' Written as a memorial to record producer and his best friend Michael Gudinski, it is just as heartbreakingly beautiful - well worth a listen, even if you don't turn it into a reaction.
One of the many things I love so much about this song is the way that, even tho it's written from his moms perspective about his grandma, it still makes perfect sense it's for his grandma from the lyrics an it makes sense that people mistake it for his perspective. The words he uses, an angel in the shape of my mom, his grandma would be in the shape of his mom, she got to see who he became as well, every bit of it is just beautiful an genius.
This is why I love singer-songwriters. They take the events that occur and the emotions we all feel and make them understandable and present. Thanks Lyle. P.S. he once performed with Tim Minchin Tim's song Prejudice that you have done and who better to do it with 🙂
I am a fan of Ed’s. Only familiar with the hits on the radio until recently. My son just told me about his song recently so I listened to it. It’s a beautiful song and I got chills listening to it. I lost my mom is 2008, but the eyes welled up in my eyes even though it has been years. Fast forward to now when I saw you reacted to it and I had the same reaction. Anyone who has lost their mom or someone very close to them can relate to this song. I’m all in when you react to more Ed Sheeran. Not just a Home Fry!
You know where I work, Lyle. Last week someone requested "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran. We had the song in our library, but I have not heard it. I'm curious to hear it, if you'd like to add that to your list. This song is requested sometimes also. Yes, it is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your heart and always being so real!
Someone else mentioned how singer-songwriters have a gift for verbalizing how people feel deep inside - and it’s a real gift that Ed Sheeran has, weaving really ordinary and normal things together like this. You should check out “Small Bump” ruclips.net/video/A_af256mnTE/видео.html
Stolen from Wiki. In an interview with MTV, Sheeran revealed that the song is about his late grandmother. He said "She was in a hospital near my house where I was making the album so I saw her quite a lot while making the album and she passed away while I was in the studio. So that's my first reaction for anything that happens to me, good or bad, pick up a guitar." He also said that the song is supposed to "really make you cry".[3] Sheeran had not intended to put the song in the album 'Divide' as it was simply a personal tribute to his grandmother that was written from the viewpoint of his mother. His father first suggested that he should play the song at her funeral, which he did, and his grandfather then urged that it should be included in the album after hearing it at the funeral.[4] Sheeran said: "My grandfather just turned to me [at the funeral], he was like you have to put that out, that has to go on the record. It's such a good memory, that's why it’s ended up on there."[5]
It's actually about Ed Sheeran's grandmother, who was ill when he was writing the album "Divide." He didn't want to include it on the album but his grandfather told him he should. One of the most emotional songs I've ever heard.
I thought so. Together with the ‘grandma’ lady from the video it sounds to me like he is something raised by his grandmother. Still a heartbreaking song.

Thank you for staying Thomas
❤hard to grasp how powerful music can be, and the emotions it can bring, burst of emotions sneaking up and taking you somewhere else
Nobody can punch their way through your chest and squeeze your heart til it bursts like Ed Sheeran.
I can NEVER get through this song without crying, but it is astonishingly beautiful. Thank you for your raw reactions. I love your tender heart.
This is my favorite Ed Sheeran song. My mom died in 2008 and this song really hits home. Still.
Affire love is also ver beautiful song.
I always lose it when he says “but mom there’s a tear every time that I blink”
Currently watching this teary eyed, lost my mum this year and I'm not ready for my first Christmas without her 💔😔
Ed wrote this about his grandmother. But at any rate, it is a great song.
We recently played this song at my mother's memorial service. We bawled our eyes out! I've never been able to listen to it without crying.
Yes also I requested this at my mother's funeral. So beautiful.
We played this at my Mom's funeral in 2017. Her childhood best friend passed away 9 months later and they played this at her funeral as well.

I don’t think he does. He never released this song as a single despite its popularity.
@@keenanpaul8968 Ed performed this live at the Brit awards 2018.

The simplicity of his heartfelt lyrics hit me like a ton of bricks. Thank you for reacting to this song!
Yeah wow is a perfect sentiment..I just lost my mother in January of this year so I feel this one...

So Beautiful!!!
😭😭😭 pulls at ur heart strings
I just lost my dad on June 30th and my mom in 2015. This song wrecks me every time.
This is why I love singer-songwriters. They take the events that occur and the emotions we all feel and make them understandable and present.
Thanks Lyle.
P.S. he once performed with Tim Minchin Tim's song Prejudice that you have done and who better to do it with 🙂
I want to see that.
@@PatrolNation here is the link. It's horrible visually but you can see and hear both of them. ruclips.net/video/xUDBzk6F8Dc/видео.html
@@PatrolNation I wrote it down so you dont forget. Now where to send you everything I have written down. 🙂🙂
He wrote this song when his mom died which was right when my mom passed. And for some reason I found out of the blue one day.😭😭😭😭😭😭
His mom is still alive. He wrote it about his grandmother, from his mom's perspective.
Another heartbreaking song but a beautiful song. I don't have either of my parents either and I have a hard time listening to some songs

Check out one of his early ones called “small bump” also an emotional song

If you haven't already done so can I suggest you review Castle on the Hill, Lego House, Tenerife Sea and You need me, I don't need you (live version)
Nancy Mulligan and Visiting Hours too. Imo his best songs are the ones that don’t get radio play.

Ed has a way of getting you
I lost my mom in November 2022.... this song. 😢😢
But if you want to try more upbeat try Castle on the Hill
