Thank you for posting! I'm happy to say I did a very full tutu for my 5 yr old daughters pageant and won grand supreme! Now my 2 other girls want their own.. thank you again!
Definitely! Decide on the length you want the skirt, double that measurement and add an inch for the knot. For example, if you wanted a skirt that is 16", you would double that (32") and add an inch for the knot - so you'd end up cutting your tulle 33" long.
It would depend on the length you want the skirt to be. For each piece of tulle you would figure on doubling the length of the skirt plus one extra inch to tie the tulle around the waistband. For every 2" of waistband, you need about 5 pieces of tulle. Hope that helps!
Hi Melissa! It depends on the size of the tutus you want to make. :) Start with the waist size and length of skirt. To figure out the length to cut each piece of 6" tulle, double the length of the skirt plus one extra inch to tie the tulle around the waistband. So for a 10" skirt, you'd cut each piece 21" long, and for every 2" of waistband, use 5 pieces of tulle. For a 22" waist, that's 11 sections x 5 pieces=55 pieces. So 21" x 55 pieces=1155" or just over 32 yards of tulle. Hope that helps!
Just untie the ribbon & retie around the waist! If you wanted a stretchy waistband, you could use elastic instead of a ribbon, but you would have to sew the ends of the elastic together.
I love it very nice and I love the idea of the ribbon instead of elastic. One question when making the tutus do you leave the knots in the ribbon when do making the tutu?
Aww, that sounds adorable! A 6" skirt might be cute for a newborn - so you'd cut your tulle pieces 13" long - but that's just a guess. :) Let us know how it turns out!
I think the bow looks cuter at the back, actually - and yes, you're right, there might be a slight gap. But if you fluffed the tulle out more you wouldn't notice as much. Hope it works for you! :)
Your tutus are so beautiful. I want to make two for my granddaughters ages 5 & 8 average size -- How much tulle do I need. I want 3 different colors and not too puffy -- there are for the 4th of July?
How many yards do you think about these are per tutu...I'm starting to make tutu's and handmade hair pieces. I want to use the 6 inch rolled tulle but not sure how much to get?
i'm sure you could - the skirt would definitely be fuller if you used the same number of pieces. you might even be able to get away with using fewer pieces of tulle. :)
Hi Rachel! I've never made a tutu for a newborn, but I just did a quick search and it seems like a newborn waist size might be 12-14" and the skirt drop would be 4-6". Hope that helps!
Thank you so much😄 I followed your instruction..and my tutu came out perfectly!! Now I'm starting on a high-low tutu ..which means its short in the front and long on the back....can u give me any advice for that or make a video....but thanks💋
I was just wondering, after my child sits down or stands up against something the tulle gets crumpled up. Do you have any tips for a quick fix on the wrinkles
would you be able to tell me what size mat you are using please i have decided to make my daughter one as i paid some one to make her one and it was awful so im going to use this video to do our own and also what is the product you use to put at the ends please thank you c
Hi Steph! The product I used on the ends of the ribbon is called Fray Block. I can't remember what size cutting mat I used though - I'm sure any mat that fits your workspace would be fine. :)
you can find it on our website,. look at the discription for the video and you will find the link. RUclips will not allow me to post a link here. you can also do a google search for Nashville Wraps and we will come up. Just look for the Tulle Ribbon link on our left sidebar.

Hello! Just see some of the other comments for more info. I haven't made a dress before, but maybe you could simply make a much longer skirt?
I love it very nice and I love the idea of the ribbon instead of elastic. One question when making the tutus do you leave the knots in the ribbon when do making the tutu?
Hi Jesenia! I do leave the knots in the ribbon, to keep the tulle from sliding off. :)
Aww, that sounds adorable! A 6" skirt might be cute for a newborn - so you'd cut your tulle pieces 13" long - but that's just a guess. :) Let us know how it turns out!

That's wonderful!! Thank you so much for sharing the news. :)
Thank you!!
thanks for the tutorial! Question: The waist looks really firm, did you add anything to the ribbon around the waist? like a stiffner? thanks
I think if you mist it lightly with water it should help with the wrinkles.
What color did you use to make the blue tutu? Are those colors available on the website? Looks beautiful.
Super cute

If I want a longer tutu, Can I use this way?

I love this I really enjoy making my tutus
What measurements would you use for a newborn tulle tutu?

Wow, thanks :)
This video its so nice :-)
So easy. Now I just have to make 37 for my cheerleader's Pink Out football game. Ha, ha
How long would be a good length for a newborn avg 20 in. She's not born yet but my last 2 boys were 20 in long lol
very nice
Please answer! I am planning to make tutu dresses and if a customer gives me the measurements of the child then how do I figure it out on the dress?
Nothing added to the ribbon, except on the ends to prevent fraying - the knots of tulle make the waistband kind of stiff. :)
how many yards of tulle would i need to make one that is 43 inches wide in waist???
I was just wondering, after my child sits down or stands up against something the tulle gets crumpled up. Do you have any tips for a quick fix on the wrinkles
vere nice
Can u use one color

I was wondering how many yards total of tulle did you use for the skirt?
+Life's Randomness I think it would be about 32 yards for this tutu (55 pieces x 21" each piece = 1155" total ÷ 36" in a yard)
+NashvilleWraps Thank you. I made the skirt for my daughter and she loved it!
Muito lindo!
You untie the ribbon and tie it around the waist.
Thanx
