Great video as always Ron, keep us posted on what Grimmspeed says about that issue. I know your heart dropped when it shut off! Hate that feeling, glad to hear it wasn't catastrophic tho.
I got the GFB Mach 2 full recirc. No sounds, very very subtle. Very well made and adjustàble spring tension so you can dial it in for better throttle response. Holds boost fantastic. Performance wise I think it's the best. GFB has a lot of experience making BOVs for many platforms. Also it's cheap. I recommend it. Side note I'm not sure some of those sounds from the Grimmspeed BOV aren't compressor surge from too stiff of a spring. I think you could run the GFB one with a very tight spring setting and get those noises if you wanted. Not sure it's ideal for performance. Just my opinion. Love the vids!
Nice review! I had the GrimmSpeed BPV on my car, and had similar issues. AFRs would go really rich in-between shifts, and if you built a little boost and clutched in for a few seconds the RPMs would drop and the car would shut off. GS was kind enough to replace it, but the issue was still there. This was back in April.
Unfortunate that the issue continues to persist, this BPV sounds amazing! Thanks for letting me know. I posted an update video after receiving rebuilt BPV from GS ruclips.net/video/oMVnACnadYs/видео.html
Good stuff man. If I was going off sound alone I personally like the GS sound better than the Nameless, but that is just me. I'm still on the the OEM one soooooo stealth mode at this point lol. Also, great job on the editing man, just getting better and better.
I am not sure what exactly was wrong but I had to install the BPV and turbo inlet twice as I was not getting correct boost the first time. I took it all apart and trimmed the silcone hose a bit more on the BPV and cleaned up all the o-rings with a light amount of WD40 on a shop towel and triple checked all the connections and it is working as it is supposed to. I am still a bit disspointed that I hear zero sounds or flutter with the GrimmSpeed BPV with my stock intake though. I may have to try the "dry-con" air filter to see if that allows me to hear it more. Darn "green speed" from Cobb. :/
Glad you were able to fix it, regardless of the lack of sounds! When you say trimmed the silicone hose, are you referring to the coupler connecting from the BPV to the turbo inlet?
I was considering getting this BPV and turbo-inlet but if it will potentially harm my car with similiar issues that you were having than I'll just stick with trusty OEM.
I’m not even going to bother with an upgraded bypass valve, down here in SoCal if they pop your hood and see it, it’s an automatic state ref. Of course if it functions like factory they will sign it off, but you have to pay for the inspection, and can’t drive until inspection.
So it looks like you are not the only one with the 'leaking' problem on the bpv where it connects to the inlet. I have mine and tested it out by blowing air into it and it does leak. Some have said to use Teflon tape to seal the threads and it'll work perfectly. What has GS said about it and what are your thoughts? Just for extra I am getting dyno-tuned next month. Should I send mine back to GS? Or should I buy the Cobb?
Yep, it seems like it’s becoming a common thing. I didn’t bother putting Teflon tape on it since the product should have been in full working order right out of the box, from a reputable brand. I do understand that GS had to get hundreds of these fulfilled ASAP due to back orders so I wouldn’t be surprised if a few didn’t get the proper qc testing. Grimmspeed offered to inspect/warranty the product for me which I’m thankful for. I’m giving Grimmspeed the chance to fix any related issues with the BPV, I owe them that much since they are a great company and have treated me well throughout the years. I’m hoping that they can prevent this issue in future renditions of the BPV. If you can ensure that you’ll get the BPV back before your dyno date, I would totally send it back for inspection/warranty since it’s a solid product overall. If not, I’d look into other options. Just my honest opinion.
@@ronfromportland I do get the aspect that they have hundreds of orders and trying to get them out ASAP because a lot of people be complaining that everything is backordered and takes weeks to months to get them shipped out. I also get that yes there will be problems with the new product when you are trying to mass produce them to meet demand and in that process there will be faults that can be overlooked. I will contact GS tomorrow to see if they can get my bpv back before my tune, which will be July 20th, so I think I would have enough time. I will see what happens. I would like to keep it so I have have a full GS setup on the turbo (inlet which is back ordered, bpv, and ebcs). Sadly I wont get the inlet before my tuning date.
I just got 2018 WRX. Have intake and fatback exhaust. What should I do next for better sound and pops( not a street racer honestly just want sound) BPV needs other mods to go w it?
So I installed this on my WRX and am noticing a bunch more exhaust popping, then the same thing happened to me. Car just died mid drive after a shift. Restarted no issues, not seeing anything weird on AFR learning/correction. Did GS ever get back to you on this?
Literally the same exact symptoms as mine. Grimmspeed couldn’t find any immediate issues but they rebuilt the BPV and sent it back within a couple of days. I’m delaying the install as the car is running so perfectly right now.
@@ronfromportlandI have the same bypass valve either improperly installed this or maybe not but my turbo cold side ended up blowing up. Never had white smoke or it never stalled on me either.
@@ronfromportland maybe it’s me but sounds different when inside my Sti. Not to be funny but sounds like a plastic bag moving under the car. But if i record it sounds different. Hard to explain. I’m new to the whole mod scene but I just recently got a GS intake but I’m also looking into getting a BPV do you recommend I stick with GS or would there be any sorts of issue if I ran a Cobb BPV along with the GS intake?
I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Cobb BPV. Either or should be fine in my opinion. I would have kept the GS BPV on if it didn’t cause my car to shut off.
They sound pretty similar, at least from the videos I’ve seen. GrimmSpeed’s BPV seems to get higher pitched flutters whereas the boomba is lower. All personal preference but the this one flutters a lot!
I have a 19 wRX with the Cobb intake and GS bypass valve and I always get the Pssssssss noise. How are you getting the stttsstts noise just curios bc we have the same mods? Could it be the charge pipe and top mount making the noise?

Your referring to Compression Surge right? Compression Surge over time does wear the turbo overtime (depending on driving), but with Grimmspeed the flutter doesn't come from the Turbo, it comes from the BPV. Therefore no wear on turbo. Someone with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've researched it's completely safe. 🙏

The boomba bypass valve sounds very similar to the grimspeed you have, that is the one I run.
After listening to it, I agree!
Use some blue loctite on the threads or Teflon tape, connecting back to the intake

Great comparison video, you mentioned an AF ratio elevation- what numbers were you getting for your AF learn and AF correction?
Thank you! Right now, -20 ~ -25 for AF Learning and -25 ~ -30 for AF Correction. Both are the actual ratios, not the min/max.
Intriguing, I get for AF Learning -9/0.78 and AF correction -25/12.50. Wonder if I should put the stock one back on based from the AF Correction
@@candid-bandit if it’s running fine, I wouldn’t worry about it tbh. Those numbers are solid.
