Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm Alert for Westmoreland County Pennsylvania June 29th: 2024

  • This is the initial storm front entering Westmoreland county Pennsylvania. On Saturday June 29th, 2024 a severe storm alert with potential flooding, hail, tornados, and thunderstorms was issued for the the area. This was is including greensburg, Jeannette, west newton, Scottdale, Mount pleasant, Latrobe, ligonier, connellsville, smithton, Irwin, north huntington, and more.
    The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Southwestern Pennsylvania until 8 p.m. Saturday.
    Among the affected counties are Allegheny, Westmoreland, Armstrong, Butler, Indiana, Washington, Fayette, Beaver and nearly all of Western Pennsylvania, in addition to parts of central Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio.
    The NWS issued the alert shortly after 1 p.m.
    A tornado watch alerts the public to the possibility of a tornado forming in the next several hours.
    The tornado watch comes on the heels of five confirmed tornadoes hitting the region earlier this week and others in the past several months.
