Tornado sneaks up on storm chaser when he gets fuel...

- Filmed in OKC/Mustang OK on FEB 26th, 2023, then Norman, OK during a rare Oklahoma FEB moderate risk day with a 15% hatched. This tornado spawned with in approx. 1000' of me and continued a Northeast vector (moving away from me). Knowing tornadoes can be erratic, change directions suddenly without warning and also being at night, I decided to hold tight while utilizing the power flashes to help me gauge which way this tornado was traveling. Although I had reflectivity, coefficient , and velocity available, the tornado was already too close to souley rely on radar products. All I could do was keep looking for power flashes, and if I felt the tornado was moving towards me, then I'd implement proper escspe measures.

(You earned a subcriber!)
I'm so happy your okay!!! And thank you so so so much!!! Welcome!
@@MesoHunterYT You're welcome! I'm glad you are okay as well!
Same with a hurricane 😮
I used to live in that area and the house I had been in was in the outer edge of that circulation.
@floridagurl40 Florida has been getting hit hard between Ian and Idalia. Hope you stayed safe with both and best wishes. Sorry for the late reply. I just this comment now 😊
I think the worst part about tornados (at night) is that you know its out there... but where?
😭
It’s like losing track of the killer wasp or spider in your bedroom, that’s the best way to describe it for people who have never been in a tornado that’s rainwrapped or at night
@@laurawendt8471 yeah that's so spot on. I have never been in a tornado but they're still my BIGGEST fear. It overcomes my phobia of spiders. I'm terrified of them.
It definitely takes some stones to chase at night….
Only well trained spotters/chasers should be chasing at night!!
Not thrill seekers who have NO clue of what they are looking for or at!! Or for those who have never studied weather!
The best moment at 3:10
Chaser: "We're good, we're good, we're good..."
The tornado literally 2 seconds later: "We've been trying to reach you about your vehicle's extended warranty..."
"Said warranty has expired. Mutha-trucker."
I love how the blue car at 2:50 is getting ready to leave and they're just like "you know what? Nope. I think I'm gonna stay here a minute." 😂 wise choice
So true!!! 🤣
This is why night time and rain wrapped are the scariest. You dont see them coming
I drove for several miles along side a rain-wrapped tornado near Sacramento, and I remember telling my wife. "If we were back in Texas, I'd be a bit worried about this, lol." We were fine, but I nearly plotzed back at the hotel after I realized how close we'd been to this thing. Never assume you are somewhere tornadoes do not form...
Noctural tornadoes are the worst, especially rain wrapped too
That tornado like “ I’ve been looking for you “
It said I've been trying to reach you regarding your cars extended warranty
@@franklinjordan8522 would be a funny bit
"Got something I'm supposed to deliver- your hands only."
@@goodbyejeffery Oh god, to think that jumpscare and then that line would ever be used for a night time tornado is absolutely terrifying and hilarious too
Yap lol
Holy hell, man! That’s so incredibly eerie. No visible signs of the tornado other than power flashes. Thoughts go out to everyone impacted. Is everything at your homestead okay?
Everything was good besides my garage door being blown out a bit, but up the road, homes were gone :/ they are still rebuilding every time I drive by
@@MesoHunterYT that sucks. I hope they make a full recovery and you garage is fixed.
You could actually see the tornado for a brief moment when the power flash lit it up it was pretty big.
When the tornado gets tired of being chased
And it knows where you live
Lmao!!! Keep these comments they are gold!
2:00 When you realise that WASNT a lightning bolt, that's scary.
2:00 Suspense strike
that's the one that knocked out my power, lol
Most scariest thing ever is night storms especially when power goes out and you can't see a darn thing . And you pray for lighting to happen so you can atleast see where the beast is located . Stay safe . 🙏
That is very scary. I'm glad you were alright. I once knew a friend in school that wanted to live in Oklahoma. I asked if he was crazy cause of all the tornadoes that spawn out there and he said "no not really". Well one of his friends moved out there and lost his life within a week. EF4 tornado touched down near his house and swept him away. My friend said "okay change of plans. I'm staying here in Tennessee". I feel bad for him and for the guy that lost his life. Tornadoes are definitely not something that should be taken lightly especially at night. Everyone who reads this, please stay safe should a warning ever be issued.
You knew someone who wanted to live in Oklahoma?
We’ve had a few recently here in Tennessee. Getting more common than I’d like 😭😭
OOOOOKLAHOMA WHERE THE WIND GOES SWEEPING THRU THE PLAINS😂😂😂😂🌪
Hahaha indeed!!
LMAO 🤣
ITS THE WONDER OF NATURE BABY!!!!
@@scoggins07 i see what you did there💯🤜🏻🤛🏻
Would be scary to live there. I prefer hurricanes, which give me time to prepare.
You know is bad when the rain starts falling sideways.
Or when it's close enough to hear dramatic theme music.
Like the weatherman on familt guy--
"What's the weather like, Ollie?""
(Ollie): "It's rainin' sideways!"
That is absolutely horrifying. Seeing the power flashes at the corner of your eye only to see a faint outline of a giant lurking behind you
2:28 now that tornado is standing there… MENACINGLY
You know it's lurking out there. The music at 2:00 when the first power flash lit up was a cool touch. Stuff just got real. Now a new subscriber.
Tysm!!!! Glad you enjoyed!
It's like if Godzilla was approaching.
@@MesoHunterYT What even is the song name?
Cray zee! My heart dropped to my stomach when the warning said “Tornadic debris has been confirmed by radar”
Yea that would definitely have my attention.
I had a tornado warning the other day and it was terrifying I literally thought that mean my family had to take cover
@@Sylbreon_253 You absolutely should if you get a tornado warning. Too many ignore them or put them off because they are "use to it," then that day comes where they don't take it serious anymore & end up hurt bad from a nado. ALWAYS take a tornado warning or watch seriously!!
@@StormChaserMaci. one time I got like four warning but there was barely even the thunderstorm that one time
@@Sylbreon_253 Tornado warnings can happen even if a storm is low precipitation. There's two types of supercells:
High precipitation or low precipitation. That's why it's important to take the warnings serious.
Soooo a fuel pump overhang was your choice of a safe place eh?
2:01 Not gonna lie, the music SCARED me.
At least they provide dramatic theme music.
Once you hear that rolling thunder/ train sound take cover . 😮 Had one come right beside my house a couple years ago . It was wild man . Full adrenaline rush . Stay safe
Ty!! You as well!
I've heard people say a tornado sounds like ten trains or a jet engine
We live in Bowling Green Ky. An F3 came through on December 11th 2021 around 1:00am right through a part of town. They are still rebuilding some of it even now. It’s still eerie to drive through the area it hit, nothing looks the same. A couple of neighborhoods were almost wiped out, lots of injuries and a few deaths. Really devastating for a lot of people. Tornadoes at night are a different thing, and for one to hit in December is not normal for us either. Stay safe out there.
Dec 10/11 was absolutely horrible! I chased the tornado that eventually impacted Mayfield. The bowling green tor was an absolute monster as well! Glad you made it out alright!
EF3*
Tennessee got an ef1 from that good old storm
I wasn't expecting a tornado jumpscare, but here we are.
If that was Reed Timmer, he would be yelling at every little thing that moves in front of him.
Tornado: "Lets see who chases who now my friend"
Indeed!
I am amazed people drive around as though nothing is happening. Aren't they aware of the danger?
Agreed! I think some may have been frozen in panic. A few others did turn around
Some people don’t even pay attention to the weather & it amazes me. 🤦🏽♀️
I had to deliver pizzas in a tornado, people still called in to order and complain when their food was late. Pretty wild stuff.
@alexakaa.charlesross8919 omg lmao sorry to laugh but how does this does not surprise me
@@MesoHunterYT i mean life is both cruel and funny
Wow, such close calls, both at home and chasing. I'm glad you're ok. I am sorry about others losing homes. :( It has been such a rough year.
Night tornadoes are so scary. I live out here in TX and I'm concerned about them more than anything, precisely for the reason in this footage.
As a video in and of itself, it's got some great production. You got a sub from me. I like that you don't scream, you have just the right amount of editing, there's no loud music trying to force a mood. It's exactly what it needs to be. Looking forward to more chases, just not near your house.
Tysm!!!!! Yes, this was a wild and crazy day, for sure. It is always a little extra tense when you're close to home, as you know, living in Texas. Thanks for subbing and welcome! 😁
didn't sneak up on you. there was a warning and 20 seconds in you said you're in the path. fuel management is really important on a chase
Damn, that must have been Pucker Factor 10! The Hunter becomes the Hunted!
🤣 indeed!!!
It’s like the storm is saying “well you chased me all day so I’m just returning the favour 🤷♀️”
Ps that pikachu cat is epic lol
I was in this, when I was driving home from my friends house I saw the power flashes about 2 miles away from me. I was rushing home and I made it there in 1 place. This was the scariest experience of my life and I'm lucky to be alive. When your in OK your kinda used to it, but when the Tornado is RIGHT next to u. Its scarier than u think. My friends house was sadly hit but he had no warning. He suffered minor injuries but none of them are life-threatening. Stay Safe out there!
Thanks for the comment!!! And ty you stay safe too! Never know what curve ball Oklahoma wants to throw at us
Dude, amazing footage!!! Night tornadoes are horrifying! I saw one once. Or at least the power flashes... i thought it was lighting at first, but looking back, that was NOT lighting..
Tysm!!
Tornadoes at night, or in heavy rain conditions, are scary as frick
This was back in February, when it all started and been nonstop storms since. I remember Reed Timmer saying it's been like this since then.
Indeed!
Wow those power flashes tho😱🌪⛈
Right!
Like a horror movie when the killer gets outed.
Just thinking about these people driving inside of this tornado.
Lesson: if you’re storm chasing, don’t fuel your car at a gas station that’s being hit by a tornado warned storm.
After living in the northwest corner of Arkansas for not quite a year, I sure don't miss this stuff. Never been this close to one and hope I never am. Glad you are safe and your home is relatively OK. Just subscribed to your channel.
Stay safe out there.
Tysm!!!! Welcome!
2:00 when you realize that wasn’t a lightning flash and your within the Twisters range
I just love how people keep driving, especially in trucks. Screw it. If on eighteen wheels, park wherever you need to and run inside. I have never been caught in a severe storm for many years because I plan my trips based on forecasts.
Agreed!
yeesh, the editing for this video is so well done. the audio creates such an immersive experience
Ty!!!
I would be in the back/front, BAWLING my eyes out screaming “I’m gonna die”
Wow! Clearly, the people did not know the tornado was there! I'm getting my first pro camera tomorrow!
Yeah, I was quite concerned for the public. There were a few that saw me filming and gave me that look of help me, so I just pointed to where they should drive away. The lights were flickering like crazy. It wasn't as noticeable on camera bc I had iso set to auto. Either way, congrats to your new rig!!
So no ones gonna talk about how there was flooding right across from him? But holy crap that is absolutely scary, you were extremely lucky to make it out alive
i do wonder why we dont just have massive spotlights that move around at the sky when there's a confirmed tornado so people can just see it like it's nothing.
Nice chestpin pfp
@@MesoHunterYT thanks
2:00 literally didn’t expect the tornado to be that close 😱 at least the power flash indicated its location…
Right! Same here. I saw the distance power flash, and then it was like surprise! I'm right here
@@MesoHunterYT Gosh, God must’ve said: “I’m here…”
It takes a certain kind of 'special' to be looking for tornadoes at night.🤔 😳
I could not imagine having to deal with one at night, holy shit.
2:00 the beast comes out to say Hello
PRIME RULE of storm chasing. NEVER allow the tank to drop below 1/2 during a chase. NEVER!
I'm glad you're okay. My tornado knowledge comes from reading about what the heck I just experienced. This year a land funnel touched down just one field over and a couple of years ago we had a tornado less than 4 miles from there too.
My husband's semi truck overheated and shut down when the fierce winds made it impossible for the truck to "breath".
But the scariest was in Michigan before I learned rain wrapped tornados exist. I was on a motorcycle and rainfall was so heavy and dark in the middle of the day I couldn't see the lights of the rider ahead of me. Water was pushing my feet off the pegs and my helmet visor was useless.
It wasn't until I got into a rest stop after the storm had passed and was drying myself off when a woman came and put her hand in my shoulder.
There was a panicked undertone to her voice when she said with great concern, "You weren't out in that were you? There was a tornado."
I've been really lucky, and I now I'm educated. Thank you for sharing and educating others to keep people safe.
Omg as a fellow motorcyclist I could even imagine encountering a tor on a bike let alone a rain wrapped one, so glad your okay! Thanks for the comment and np! Always ny honor to provide front line info for the public 😁
2:28 You can actually see the actual wedge monster even if it is just for a second
Just how proves how fast and unpredictable these things can form and how much trouble you could be in if your in range of these monsters
Couldn't have said it better myself
Yikes, that’s scary! Tornadoes at night are common here in TN. And the sad thing is we’re usually asleep, it’s hard to see them. Not a good time to stop for fuel, they’re giving a Tornado Warning. I think I would be going inside the building to seek shelter in the beer cave or the restroom. Those power flashes are a sign that the tornado is near you.
Yeah and maybe crack open a cold one while you’re in there!
@@saltysad2986
Might as well crack open a cold one lol.
I'd just sleep in a basement or shelter at that point if I knew a night event was gonna happen.
Yep, looks like the tornado snuck right up on ya?🤔
Stopped video at power flash and was like sh!t, that's huge. Run and take cover. Then looked online, 5 (3 EF-1 & 2 EF-2 tornadoes) in the area. Maybe start truck and floor it in opposite direction.
At least you had a warning. I am not so sure about a lot of other people by the looks of it. Out driving around. My general rule is if you see horizontal rain, wind or snow take shelter. Yes I said even snow being that I have seen a tornado in December before.
I REMEMBER THIS. Absolutely terrifying. Will remeber this for my life.
Nice footage. 😎 and glad you are ok. How did your house do in the storm
Ty! Luckily, only my garage door was blown out a bit. However, houses up the road didn't fair as well
Dam all those people just driving towards the twister like it's nothing

I know the feeling, an EF 2 just went through mountain area Pennsylvania the other day at 3AM right by my house, destroyed a forest and a campground that had 500 people at!

I was in a half basement in Mount Vernon Missouri when a tornado hit I was by the door and I ran into the basement and the tornado literally followed me to the other side of the place and I was looking out of a really small basement rectangle window and I flipped out.
The tornado: I’ve been trying to reach you regarding your car’s extended warranty

February 2023. The tornado mentioned in the warning didn't make it into the main part of the Oklahoma City area. Just RFD downbust winds did The circuation with RFD went right over my apartment.
Yeah, the first was near Mustang and Will Roger's airport, then the second clipped my house in Norman. Luckily, only damage was my garage door blew out a bit. homes down the street didn't fair as lucky and some were destroyed
😢. I'm from Europe but I always thought tornadoes only appeared during the daytime only. 😮
It is both. If the conditions are right tornadoes can happen at night. Like what happened with the quad state supercell or the Greensburg tornado.
One thing you need to know is tornadoes do not care, this will help you alot.
When the chaser became the chased. Glad everyone got out alive.
Tornadoes are bad but if it happens at night it’s the worst thing because you can’t see it unless it’s power flashing
The sfx for that first power flash was awesome I can’t lie lol. But seriously I’m glad ur ok.

I haven't played with those since Iraq, haha, of course, then we only had 7 bravos lol 😆
I recognize that first location since I shop in that area. You were at the intersection of SW 5th & S. MacArthur in Oklahoma City. I also remember that night, so strange to have a tornado in February, and I was actually in my safe room (yikes, time to take this one seriously!). Thankfully no damage to my home in the Bethany/Warr Acres area, but sirens were wailing and all trees were leaning south from the constant steady wind flowing to the base of the tornado in your general area while taking this video.
