She says she is not a radical but "simply telling the truth". "If there ever was a time to defend real freedom of speech it is now. People are being killed all over the world over this," she adds. Islamic scholar Sheikh Haitham al-Haddad openly criticises homosexuality. He has been called a bigot, a hate preacher and has had talks at a number of UK universities postponed or cancelled. "I am just vocal about anything I disagree with. My view about homosexuality is clearly stated in the Koran. If the media had a fair presentation of my views it would just not single out those points," he says. The interviews were part of a series of reports by Catrin Nye (@CatrinNye ) about radicals.

When you put feelings above free speech, you have effectively given up your right to free speech.
I have heard Muslims over and over again ridicule the fundamental Christian belief that Jesus Christ is the son of God and his death gave salvation to all who accept God's grace. Yet there is a wide spread belief that criticism of Islam and Mohammed should result in the death of the "blasphemer".
If you want to not just allow other religions but also want to have to freedom to criticize them in defense of your beliefs, you must also be intellectually consistent enough to respect and tolerate the criticism and speech against your Muslim faith as well.
Theres lots of things you cannot say under so called freedom of speech atleast in the UK. Infact we have very specific laws which mean it is a criminal offense to use hate speech against religious groups or LGBT groups etc. Also jist because you have the right to say sonethingndies nit mean that it is ok to abuse that power to be disrespectful. For example how would you feel if I abused your family in the name of free speech?

I describe myself as a more left-leaning liberal. However, I don't see how the Mohammed cartoon contest is offensive or on the same level as preaching homosexuality is wrong/immoral. We allow cartoons of Jesus and Buddha, but for some reason Mohammed has the privilege to be exempt from the same treatment. Religion is an idea and ideas are subject to scrutiny and/or mockery.

Catrin Nye should lose her job for failing to comprehend the MEANING of “free speech,” and perhaps would if the BBC had a more evolved understanding of the subject than she has.
What Ms. Nye advocates-that’s a transitive verb where I’m from-is speech, not FREE speech. If we couldn’t offend with our speech, Western civilization would be far less evolved than it became until 1979 or so. If speech were restricted from offense, it would be restricted from controversy, contradiction, and confrontation, i.e. from being an agent for change. Muslims imagine they’ve received ultimate truth, and THAT is why the Muslim world is so stagnant. Now the Muslim approach-ignorant arrogance backed by belligerence-is seeping into the Western fabric, and morons like Nye are too unschooled to see it.

Every one who is against freedom of speech is against humanity. There is difference between hate speech and freedom of speech. When you are saying anything abut a person which is inherent and not one's choice i.e. Race, country he/she is born to and you are perusing hate against them, then it is hate speech.( eg. saying against homosexuality as it is inherent as people born with homosexuality. You can't blanket all Shias as being non-muslim, it depends on the beliefs of the individual and how far they go. There are many different strands within Shiism Ayham. This is why Islamic Law has never been canonised like English law apart from the last few decades of the Ottoman empire where they tried to do this. Islamic judges don't follow a set book with a set punishment for a set crime, instead they judge the context for why the individual commited a crime. This has always happened in the past 1400 years. One side, the woman’s argument, is that I can draw INSULTING comics about your belief, whereas the other side, the muslims belief, Is purely stating his take on a certain ordeal, that homosexuality is wrong in his eyes.
