- In this mandrel tube bending video I bend up a custom designed 3 piece set of frame rails for a client in Alabama. Mandrel bent in 2 x 4 x .120 Rectangle steel tube. I go through the full process from start to finish with a tooling change from easy way bending to hardway bending.
If you needing a set of frame rails or mandrel bent rectangle tube sections in 2 x 4 or 2 x 3 feel free to reach out we can get the ball rolling on them.

Calling you a craftsman would be an understatement!
Thanks for watching
You are one of my favorite "How it's made" channels. I love to learn how things are made even if i never do it myself.
Thanks i appreciate it
I really appreciate your videos. The voice-over worked well.
Thanks for watching, glad the voice over is being well received
Good idea re the voice over Mike. Keep up the good work. Cheers 👍
Thanks. I always hate editing these and listening to the hydro pump running
Yeah the Voice over Video is a good idea but not too often...We like the detail explaining with other projects also...
@@JustinPaul1st I think it will just be when machinery or back ground noise is over whelming. I dont like other videos where everything is always voice over
Very interesting to watch and hear what you go through to bend that tubing. Amazing thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Love the voice over style. Mix it a little with the workshop sounds and for me it is perfect!
Thanks
That machine does a great job As most things you do
thanks
Love the bend edits top marks Mike
Thanks
That's quite the machine ... lot of work put great results ... like the voice over ...
Thanks 👍
Fascinating subject but so far over my head. Far heavier work than I would undertake. 😁👋
Fair enough!
Very interesting, thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching
Thanks again Mike!
Very well done!
Thank you very much!
Nice work heck of a machine you got there.
Thanks 👍
Impressive! Quite the process to change the dies isn't it?
It is what it is big machines take a while to change things around
👍
You should make a frame template for specific models that get frames done. so you could sell your own customer frames. But like your other video it may not be the type of work you want to take on. But could be something to fill in the time of an employee and pay there wage.
I dont have employees and dont want employees. also not wanting to get into mass parts production.
@@cornfieldcustoms 👍. Was thinking you might be looking from the video where you talked about turning away work if it’s not what you want your business to do.
Where does the worksheet come from, you or the customer?
Could you show us how you determine where the bends go, and take us through control arms, caster, camber, toe, and bumpsteer?
I have a 49 Studebaker pickup truck that I'd love to update it. I don't want it to handle or steer like a tugboat.
I really love these videos.
Some of my other video shows full detailed lay out of the bends. The work sheet comes from bendtech software that I print out after designing the rails. If and when i do a full frame build i will talk about the other things you listed
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching
For all these bends ,does the customer do the layout ? Then you bend according to there layout and angles?
Keep up the great videos hugh fan love the channel and content
Now out to the shop and build a door skin stand lol
Thanks Mike 😊
Client provides a basic sketch, then i design in cad, send off to client for approval. Once approved I cut and bend
@cornfieldcustoms thanks for answering your awsome Mike
Just wondering if you manually check all the bends for degree accuracy after you have completed the bending?
Not every bend due the angle usually not being as critical as the landing points
@@cornfieldcustoms thanks for answering! So do you verify the landing points and vertical rise from each landing? That is clearly a very good machine, have you ever had any deflection/errors due to the machine?
@@paulblack1811 never had any issues other than improper input from me. Once the machine is set its pretty on point.
It looks like a Dance with your machine
it kind of is. you get in a rhythm thats for sure
@@cornfieldcustoms all the best,
Start to finish…..how long does that process take you..??
With out a die change about 20 mins
it would seam like a 2nd machine would come in nice other then the payments ,, don't know if you do enough each year too make it worth it .. but 2 hours changing over on a job labor plus test bends that must add up each year ..
another machine is about $100k out the door, plus it takes a massive foot print in the shop ( machine and swing out room) so that is not a good option. currently I am only changing the tooling about once a month on average and I charge a die change fee if I have to do both hard and easy way on the same rail
Can you build a frame for any vehicle and how much would it cost
@@CoreyBoyle-x2e that is a very loaded question. In theory yes i am capable of building a frame for any vehicle. To many variables to be able to give you a price with no information on what it is
@@cornfieldcustoms it’s for a 99 Chevy Astro but I’m putting 12” wide tires in the back and big rims in front so figure instead of a c and a z notch just see what it would cost around to just get the frame made
@@CoreyBoyle-x2e i would need a sketch of what you need. Full length rails start at $1100 a pair
