Can you talk about how underrated Luigi is. His pitching is great. His fielding, speed, and hitting is above average. His star swing isn't great, but his hitting is consistent enough to not have to use it. He has access to Mario and Daisy as chemistry partners which can lead to great teams. He doesn't really have any big downsides. He doesn't really get enough credit in the game. Im not saying he's the best, but he isn't bad at all.
Luigi's star throw is a considerable problem. Against certain batters, his star throw is rather predictable and the batter can purposely position themselves to get beaned.
@@X2011racer luckily star pitches aren't super important. They cost too much stars for only 1 out. Luigi especially doesn't need it since he does so well at pitching. Also Luigi has pretty good control over his star swing. Often the worst thing that will happen is that Luigi will get a ball.
I've always considered Yoshi as an S tier, especially if you play with button controls. The best runner, so he can steal bases. The best stat swing by far, great chemistry tree, and the best centerfield coverage you can get.
Even as a kid playing Super Sluggers I saw Yoshi as overpowered. Yes he's at his weakest in his throwing arm, but you can easily make up for that by putting him in center field. That added onto being the fastest character and overall solid chemistry, makes him a ridiculously good player. Yoshi will always be the face of Super Sluggers in my book.
These character analysis videos have been incredible. Easily some of my favourite work on the channel so far. Yoshi really is the GOAT in this game. Something else I want to touch upon regarding Yoshi that wasn't brought up is opportunity cost. There are only 16 captains in this game, and most of their star swings really blow. Besides Yoshi, I'd only really consider Waluigi and Diddy Kong to have great star swings, maybe Daisy if I'm feeling nice. But Waluigi is massively handicapped by chemistry, Diddy Kong just plain sucks, and Daisy's star swing can be countered against a good enough player. It's like... why not just take Yoshi as a captain? He's got a phenomenal chemistry tree, great stats across the board, and the best star swing in the game, which is only made better by being just 1 star. I genuinely can't see a scenario where I'm not taking him as the first pick of any draft.
Good analysis! It is hard to argue that Yoshi isn't at least in top 5 best characters in the game. Though, yeah, I'd probably agree that Birdo and Petey might be _slightly_ better overall. Yoshi is definitely top-tier due to his speed and special abilities. Yoshi has been my favorite since Superstar Baseball as he was excellent in that game as well. However, in Superstar Baseball, I would argue Peach slightly edges out Yoshi by a hair as best character as she is more well-rounded.

A big issue with captain yoshi, in a draft format people will always take birdo as a captain, her chemistry is too good not to take, and she connects to literally every team, 2 of her chemistry links also have alt skins, so they can't be sniped (yoshi shy guy), Captain yoshi costing 2 star can really be a huge downside if you need to take birdo as a captain
Yoshi Captain > Birdo Captain imo. Daisy is maybe slightly better than Baby Peach for pitching, but other than that Birdo's chem is worse imo. The Petey link is basically shared because Light Green Mii can't get hate picked as is a good character in and of herself. The rest of Birdo's chem links pale in comparison to just Mario, who has chem with power hitters (Piantas), an elite pitcher (Peach), and Red Mii, who basically gets you to anything else you could want (Fire Bro, Kritter, Red Magikoopa, etc.). Closest competition Birdo has to direct chem with Mario is Red Yoshi who's a solid character, but not as good as Mario, and misses out on the Pianta link. Don't get me wrong, Birdo's a fantastic captain, and easily my #2 best by virtue of being the only other captain with Petey chemistry. It's just I'd rather captain the character with better stats and a functional star swing.
