"Clarkson & His Appalling Spectacular Dream Quote" - Marsh Family parody of Lloyd Webber's "Joseph"

- We resisted it before Christmas, but since this whole story is circulating again, we've bitten the bullet and done a little skit parodying a recent furore in UK media, around an inflammatory newspaper column written for The Sun by British commentator and provocateur Jeremy Clarkson (who once hosted a car show called Top Gear but lately has hosted other programmes, and become a farmer). Since the whole original Clarkson piece was based around a dream, we've chosen of course the iconic "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice. The musical, still going strong, is based on the (quite dislikeable) character of Joseph from the Book of Genesis, and was the first of their incredible list of collaborations to be performed.
Overambitiously, we've given a twist to three songs: the Prologue, Any Dream Will Do, and Joseph's Dream (all first performed in 1968), and we decided to try to do it all in one take, as we have a new audio interface that can process six XLR mics, thanks to the generosity of our Patreons!
For the more opaque references: Meghan Markle is an American woman married to this chap called Prince Harry from Britain. Game of Thrones is a TV series that had an infamous scene modelled on a ritualised medieval humiliation. Andrew Tate is a misogynist. Nicola Sturgeon is the First Minister of Scotland, and Rose West a notorious serial killer - both of whom Clarkson referenced in his (now retracted) column. Avian flu's something that Clarkson's written about in the past.

No one changed the tone!

Clarkson’s prose was always vulgar
But what makes us mad
Are the things that Clarkson tells us of the
Dreams he claims he had

His dream lacked creativity - it came from Game of Thrones
He hoped to make some headlines with his boorish overtones
This is not the kind of thing
The public likes to hear
It seems to us that Clarkson and his
Dreams should disappear
“I dreamed if I apologised, THE SUN might let it lie”
Bowing like a peasant - he would wring his hands and sigh
“Could it be that I was wrong to say the things I write?
Attention seeking’s difficult - it needs a shower of shite
The dreams of Clarkson’s column aren't
The wrecking ball he thought
It’s not as if we’ve all been starved
Of royal new reports
Not only is he tactless but
He's also rather dim
For ITV and Amazon
Will soon get rid of him
The dreams, of course, were never true
That is, we think were never true
That is, we hope were never true
What if they normalise wrongs?
What if they string folk along?
The column’s verbal diarrhoea
The tone despicable
But rather let the bigot shout
Than censoring us all
In fact you can find other dreams
(When tabloids stoop too low)
But one thing we are sure about: the dreamer ought to know!

Don’t let this world turn into nothing but hate and bigotry!!! Perfect tribute to Clarkson, who has offered “Diddly Squat” to our lives. You lot, however, never fail to deliver. Behind this song lies hours of practise and endeavour. I love it. X
Oh i dont know. On top gear in 1992 he was warning diesel fumes were causing cancer. He was ignored as a crank as diesel at the time was the in thing, a saviour to the environment. He was also opposed to brexit kind of undermining the idea that not all who voted brexit are racist, but all racists voted brexit
It has been such a pleasure to watch the children’s voices develop over the few short years. The parents always had fantastic voices. Such a talented family.

1. Your voices are so good that I'm actually paying more attention to the singing than to the parody.

I went and found the movie version before watching them. I didn't get released in theaters but it was absolutely first rate. Then with the needed background I watched the parody.

This is the best yet. Perfect in every way. Musical selection, excellent singing and harmonies, excellent writing and the ability to mirror the thinking of what I used to think of as being normal people with common sense and decent values but sadly these days seems to be the disquieted minority.
I only discovered this remarkable family a couple days ago but I am addicted to them now.
A fair and well earned response to Mr Clarkson. I have in the past enjoyed much of Jeremy's bombastic annoyance and witty outrage even when I felt it was baseless, however, in the last few years he seems to be suffering more and more from lack of good writers or good judgement or both. This is most likely just the inevitable early onset dementia which tells the wise among us when it is time to retire.
So very clever - to me this is one of your best! Your daughters have such beautiful voices. Well done to all of you for putting together something so professional.

ing" linking two lines, so daring and unconventional, really clever...oh and the boy's falsetto is coming along nicely, both their voices are maturing so well.
Mum and girls just harmonise so wonderfully together ah !🤗 The choice of tunes to cover, some of my favourites, was the perfect setting for the words and really brought home how we all feel about the fffffarmer and his opinions!

Setting to one side the obvious talent of this family - top mark all around. The backing track? Who? How? Could it be that they also pre-record that also? If the answer is yes I am truly amazed.
Great effort as usual. One small matter of balance however is that very few people are totally bad or totally good. Yes of course Clarkson makes occasional extremely provocative statements , but he has also helped produce some of the most interesting television programmes with Top Gear and the superlative Grand Tour.
Also a lot of what he writes is actually incisive and to the point, tapping into modern frustrations that we all feel.
The National Union of Farmers has also foisted high praise on Clarksons farm for promoting farming in this country and shining a light on the real problems faced by British farmers and ergo ourselves in respect of the environment, bureaucracy and the ethical protection of our food supplies.
In essence, and bearing in mind the right to free speech, Clarkson needs to be called out for what he says if it invites hatred or just plain wrong, and similarly you guys have every right to express your own thoughts and opinions in the brilliant way that you do.

This is perfect in every sense, as always, down to the leather jacket reference. But, my goodness, Ella, your "lessons with grandma" voice is becoming a true wonder in itself. It is easily noticed, of course, so educated and controlled. I do hope you're already writing your own songs, so we can expect you singing your own material when you inevitably go, whisper it, solo.
