Backpacking in the desert and eating delicious food... I don't need much else 😊 I hope you enjoy this video and get some new meal ideas for your next trip! Thanks so much for watching 💚
Just Wanted to take a second to let you know how much I love Your channel and I know that you both put a lot of work into making these great videos. Love your Instagram page as well.
Nice job. Some really beautiful scenery and some awesome advice on food. I did a solo paddle in camping excursion and overdid it. Too much / too complicated. You have great examples of simple, nutritious and satisfying meals without making it a pain to lug around, prepare and clean up. Great camera work, sound and editing. Thanks so much. Be safe - Be well
I'm going solo to Death Valley in a couple weeks. It's nice to see what other, more experienced people do on their adventures. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Crossing water in Alaska would look a bit different! Since it's a rainforest and nothing dries out, we'd have to strip down to our skivvies. Beautiful scenery!!
Amazing how much sand has washed out of that last deep section since when I did it a couple of years ago. Only got halfway up my thighs when I went through it. There's another short section halfway through that canyon that's been known to be an actual swimmer for shorter people in years past as well.
I'm not much for deserts, but that looked fun! Great video! I love seeing all the different food you take, definitely gives me ideas! I really love Power Crunch bars too, I need to restock lol!
I like your cereal and powdered milk idea, saves on fuel consumption on longer trips. I think I would get the powder and water mixed up before adding the cereal, less mess. But thanks for a great idea.
camera equipment questions: (1) what GoPro carrying case do you use? (2) how do you attach it to your pack (or do you carry it in hand while you hike?)
Freeze dried bananas that’s a good idea for the cereal. I use powdered milk mixed with Truvia for my coffee and cereal. Try mixing the powder with water first before the cereal so you get a good milky mix 😊.
Power crunch are my favorite also. I'll have to try key lime. All others bars have a weird texture. Can not do those concrete bars. Dried apple with some almond butter.... love it.
Dried apple with almond butter - yes! I agree that the Power Crunch bars just have the best texture. I love the light and fluffy crunch compared to most other more dense protein bars.
@@rebeccabradnam2716 The mylar bags are a lot tougher than freezer ziplocks. I've had the ziplocks rip on me, so I don't use them anymore to cook in. I definitely prefer the mylar bags, but they need to be heat sealed with an oxygen absorber for storage.
You are AMAZING!!! I am planning West Rim hike in Zion for next year with my family who lives out there. If you have done it, I would love any tips or link to video! Thanks, again, for all you do!
I had a permit to do it this past Spring, but there was still way too much snow, so I wasn't able to get to the trailhead. I'm hoping to do it next year! Thanks for watching 😁
Thanks for all of the great ideas on backpacking/camping food! What are the bags that you use to "cook" your dehydrated meals in? I avoid eating hot food out of plastic or aluminum so that makes it difficult to find something.
I love you and your videos. I was disappointed to realize those power crunch bars are loaded with palm oil, which is so disastrous to the planet, ecologically. Serious no go on those. On a positive note, i learn so much from you and you are a delight. Thank you for the content.
Amanda, out of curiosity. Is there a reason you don’t carry the cereal pre mixed with the milk and dried fruit? It sounds like a great idea for a quick breakfast on the trail.
The reason I had them separate was because I didn't have a bag (with a good seal) big enough to hold the cereal and milk together. For the powdered milk, I was using a small ReZip bag and my larger ReZip bags were already being used, so I just kept the cereal separate on this trip!
I’m waiting on the next dehydrating meals class. I made the spaghetti meal and did a chili meal both were good, although need to work on the chili one a little more to make it spicier. Can’t wait to see how you make the chicken teriyaki meal.
Hey Amanda! Do you guys plan to camp through this winter or at least through nights where temps can get down to the 20s? I'm contemplating that this year and I was wondering if you have recommendations on a (double) sleeping pad and/or how to fortify your tent to stay warm? I'd be camping in the southwest (TX, NM, AZ) so it's probably not considered true winter camping. Or perhaps do you have a trusted resource that's already has tips or has done a thorough review and comparison? I live in TX so my gear is for 3- seasons.
I'm planning to do some car camping in the winter months, but not really in the snow. I live in Utah, so I usually go down to the desert in the winter months where the temps definitely can get below freezing, but it's not super snowy for camping. The channel Backcountry Exposure has some great snow camping tips and gear reviews that might be helpful when planning winter camping trips. I would definitely check that out!
I have Mylar bags with absorbers. I want to make vegan meals, but I see that the oxygen absorbers can’t be used for food with more than 10% moisture? 😩
Beautiful, very beautiful! I don't know what to say! I would like to know what shoes you got, aren't you afraid they break in that water always? Why you don't take in the deep water your pack now up on your head? But I must be crazy, I try to lose weight and I sit here and watch you 13:50 how you eat! Thanks for the video!

i need to make time to do things like this, i use to camp all the time, but never in the desert
instablaster.
The timelapse of the sun going down is so cute !!! Omg!
I love that timelapse too! Nick took all the photos and I just put them together.
I miss backpacking so much. With 3 teens and one in college it's hard to get out sometimes. These meal options are cheap and easy. Thank you so much.
You're welcome! Glad you got some new ideas here!

Glad the videos have been helpful! I hope you have an awesome trip. Death Valley is so cool!
Love your videos thanks for sharing
Great video guys. Love how you integrate backpack/camping food and prep into your videos.
Crossing water in Alaska would look a bit different! Since it's a rainforest and nothing dries out, we'd have to strip down to our skivvies. Beautiful scenery!!
I went to Capital Reef National Park last April! Hands down the most beautiful place I’ve ever been!!
I live East. Not too much sand our way, but it was beautiful. Thank you for sharing what you eat.

@@amanda.outside always! I actually just got back from the store and and picked up a key lime pie to try!

Capital Reef is a stellar place. I just spent a week there myself. Good stuff, Amanda.
It's definitely one of my favorite national parks!
Which trail was this?

Yea mixing the powdered milk first would definitely be easier! Thanks for watching 😁

Strange I love the sense concrete bars lol
I never want coffee on my normal days in the city but I love it while camping for some reason.
I love Dark Timber for backkpacking. They have a mocha flavor called Mt Baker Mocha...oh my yummy!
The editing on the video was great!
Cool place! With coffee!
Ok this is now my favorite youtube channel 👍 Great content subscribed 🔔✔️
Great video. Beautifully done.
Thank you very much!
What sandals are you wearing?
Beautiful views, ty
Omg sleeping on sand has to be so comfy
awsome video thanks for all the content, keep posting the videos, may your channel grow more and more every day, happy Diwali , love from india
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support. 😁
What is that bag you use (at 12:33) to put your home cooked dehydrated meals into?
It is a mylar bag from the brand Pack Fresh USA.
@@amanda.outside thanks! I usually store my dehydrated meals in vacuum sealed bags and cook them in freezer ziplock bags on trail. Are these better?
@@rebeccabradnam2716 The mylar bags are a lot tougher than freezer ziplocks. I've had the ziplocks rip on me, so I don't use them anymore to cook in. I definitely prefer the mylar bags, but they need to be heat sealed with an oxygen absorber for storage.
Do you pack/use sunscreen? Which type or brand do you favor?
Great video Amanda! Question: what precautions do you take when packing for overnight trips in terms of wildlife? Bears...?
Power crunch peanut butter is my favorite
What do you do with the coffee grinds when make pour over coffee?
I just put them in my trash.
What kind of cereals are you eating? Or are they homemade 😋

My FAVORITE National Park!
It's so awesome. I've been wanting to do this hike for a while, and it did not disappoint!
this was on my bday!
You’re it. You’re the vibe.
What IS that water filter you used
It's a Sawyer Squeeze water filter. I love it!
I’m wondering if you can use Stasher bags with those diy dehydrated meals? Or do they need to be in the plastic bag? Great video!
What type of sandals do you wear when you’re hiking?
I have Bedrock Sandals and I love them!
Hi Amanda how much protein was in your chicken and rice thanks for the views
I'm not sure of the exact protein amount, but I think it was a lot. If I had to guess, I would say at least 40 grams.
Can you tell us where you went? I recently cancelled a trip to capitol reef :( but looking to go soon. Looks like a great spot
Thanks for all of the great ideas on backpacking/camping food! What are the bags that you use to "cook" your dehydrated meals in? I avoid eating hot food out of plastic or aluminum so that makes it difficult to find something.
They are mylar bags by the brand Pack Fresh USA. I think they're made of plastic and aluminum though.
Try Stasher bags. They are made from silicone and can be boiled. Plastic free. Can be used thousands of time. Space saver. Cleans easy.
I did some searching and found these:

I’ve seen the Dukes sausages on some of your other videos. I haven’t been able to find them. Where have found them? Never mind, found them on Amazon.
haha I've also bought them at Walmart, Target, and my local grocery store Sprouts!

New tent 👀

The views here sort of remind me of Pariah Canyon
Love those Trader Joe olives
Me too!! 😊
I just bought a similar stove. I guess brilliant minds think alike ...
Hello Amanda I’m new to your channel and I noticed you posted some yoga videos. Are you a yoga instructor too?
I Love yoga! I Love all your videos...😊
Welcome to the channel! Yes I am a yoga instructor. I don't make the yoga videos anymore, but at one point that was a big part of my channel!

I don’t feel like coffee first thing in morning no backpacker has ever said.
haha yes coffee is essential first thing in the morning! ☕️
After sleeping on the ground it's the best thing. Worse thing is waiting on it to get done. Lol
