    That drummer is NUTS. Saw them live, they played for two fkn hours.. we, of course, like the greedy bastards we were, called for an encore. Omar and Cedric looked at each other, then simultaneously looked at Thomas. Without skipping a beat, Thomas started going ham on the drums. Cedric and Omar shrugged and we got an additional 45 minutes. IT. WAS. FKN. MAGICAL.

    The guitarist doubles his sounds by layering different sounds in each amp, definitely trying this tonight. (If his output from his guitar is being manipulated by a switcher to all his other pedals directed to his multi amps for layering, well that’s creative)

    I've watched several live videos of the band playing this song- a couple with Pridgen, and a couple with Theodore...I keep thinking one of them is outdoing the other, only to have the other surprise me.
    At this point, I'm convinced that Theodore is the secret love child of Billy Cobham and Dave Weckl, while Pridgen is some unholy union of motorcyle engine and man. Both living legends; this must be how my parents' generation felt at Woodstock, watching legacies unfold before their eyes.

    Watching this in 2020 year of the bat. Ike has sadly passed on, Juan has suffered a bad head trauma/ brain injury, unclear if he'll recover fully, Jon Theodore ( the original drummer ) plays for Queens of the Stone Age. Live music has been cancelled for the foreseeable future. Strange times

      I just watched live Jon do this song (2004) and the playing is no contest to me. I don't know anyone who could play like Pridgen does. I know it's a lot...but he's insanely good.

    • @Joe1839
      @Joe1839 8 лет назад

      True...but the opposite can also be true; more (good more) can be better, especially for how he does it here. Personal preference but here, I think his good is better.

    This is the type of shit that jazz fusion dudes should be playing instead of weather channel music. These guys are the perfect blend of great musicianship, balls, and songwriting. Gotta admit... it took me a little while when i first started listening to them to get past Cedric's high falsetto voice, but his choice of melodies make the song just as much as Omar's guitar parts.

    It is so awesome and encouraging to real musicians, who studied their art, to see a live audience totally getting into great music created by real organic musicians. No EDM BS or Hip Hop sampling, and or fake POP star lip syncing. Just real humans making real music. Thank you Mars Volta for bringing the art of live music back to masses. You inspire us all!

    I like how people turn in their opinion, thinking it make sense, especially these chastised terms "too busy on the drums" bands solid, but singer sucks" stupid shit like this keeps you from actually appreciating the music and performance. I mean can't you see the crowd, the fucking vibes they are laying down!! Complex composition and dedication to preformed studio shit live, come on get over yourself. Believe.
