Right? I couldn't stop smiling at Elizabeth and Maria geeking out. This whole series has been so entertaining, interesting and insightful. I love how it really is genuinely just two people talking over tea, and not some rigid Question > Answer > Question > Answer routine. I'd like to think, too that, besides being such a bright, pleasant spirit, that Elizabeth's invitations are accepted (or, in Maria's case, they've reached out to her) because she's the real deal. She's not "playing the algorithm", farming views and follows off others' work, like so many others on YT. She has the knowledge, chops and experience to understand, break down and discuss what's going on. She's an educator. And so, Elizabeth and her guests can talk as equals on that level.
"The audience are part of the ritual" - very interesting discussion starts here. Especially since a lot of artists talk about creating art (even performance art) for themselves, which is almost the opposite ethos.
"Art" becomes art, only and only when it is shared to a public. And Heilung has one of the best approaches to sharing its art. I respect them for this.
It's also something Einar Selvik talked about in a few interviews, the way his music becomes something different through the interaction with a live audience. On the other hand, with regards to his music in itself, without the live performance aspect, he did say that he does enjoy listening to his own music from time to time, and the reason for that is that he did start to create the sort of music he would have liked to listen to, but that he couldn't find around him, at least not very often. Or something along those lines. So I don't think it has to be an either or sort of question, you can create your art because you yourself are enjoying it, but you can further your craft, so to speak, and enhance your art, if you manage to learn to bring other people into it as well, and add that spiritual/communal aspect to it.

She is the epitome of priestess representing nature and well being, thus the name for both bands that she is associated, which literally translate to Healing, and Euzen (pronounced Ef zin) meaning well being. I'm crying watching this. I was at the Denver ritual and planning on going to the Red Rocks show. Heilung is my favorite music I've ever heard. When the Denver show happened, I'd recently had a devastating loss in my family. That show, that ritual set me back on a path of exploring myself, my music. Maria is incredible. Thank you thank you thank you for this.
Maria is 11 out of 10, nothing weird. Her vocals make me shiver. What she does is so far away from the music I have loved my whole life but what she does is so beautiful. Thank you Maria, you have opened my musical mind.
Really? an entire hour has passed? Next time 2 hours, at the very least! She'll be back, won't she? Maria is too incredible for an one time thing. Thanks for that.
Eu as "ef" is modern Greek, in classical Greek it is indeed like "eju". The sound changed over the past 2500 years, see eleutheros vs. eleftheros: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E1%BC%90%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%8D%CE%B8%CE%B5%CF%81%CE%BF%CF%82. According to this, the transition from ypsilon to phi took place during the Byzantine time. Well, and "Heilung" of course means "cure" in German.
As someone who's studied both modern and classical Greek, I'd like to point out that if they've chosen the classical route it would actually be read as "εουθεν" [euthēn] (the adjective would be εὐθηνός, so η being basically a long ε instead of an ι sound like in modern and the diptong εὐ sounding "εου" it would be pronounced like that), but if it's a modern approach that's true! It's so interesting how this language has evolved over the ages, to be honest! But now trying to pronounce Greek words give me a headache because I never know if I should go for modern or classical LOL
@Giannis Giatsiakis That is interesting. I realized that it sounded Ef Zin and also realized that it sounds like the German word essen, which is to eat, also a form of 'wellbeing'. I am pretty sure the cultural influences play a role here.
@@aresaurelian No Ancient Greek "cultural influences" were involved in how anient Germanic peoples talked about eating. I strongly suggest you refrain from publically sharing this sort of word association games, because to people who are familiar with the actual science of etymology what you write is a direct equivalent to saying that you're pretty sure thunder happens when two clouds in the sky bump into each other.
Maria Franz is so interesting! Daunting when on scene, but she seems so genuine and friendly in everyday life ; one would love to be her friend! He vocal performances are truly amazing, but so comforting, with the band 's music, at the same time. We feel more united as humans thanks to music, a language without boundaries. And I love the part with the "banshee cry", and also the "white willowy witch laughter" (I think it's in Maidjan as well). And what's Maria is saying about the band's work is fascinating, exciting and illustrates the old saying : - "Inspiration must find you at work"! Thank you for the interview Elizabeth and Maria!
i saw this and i think my brain stopped functioning for a moment. Read it a few times to make sure i was reading it right. Now i'm internally freaking out with joy. Cant wait to watch this tomorrow to start off my weekend.
Maria is so intriguing. Such an immense talented individual with a deep connection with history. She has a very "organic" approach to life with a good bit of interest with our pagan past to add to it. Her voice is captivating. She obviously has both a beautiful inner spirit and mystical presence.
What I like about such fantastic singers like Maria, you hear their talking voice, and you can recognize them in the songs. You hear her talk and you can say yes its Maria I heard singing, and vice versa. I times of super special effects many pop singers do, this became quite rare.
I have no idea how I missed this interview for the past two years, but I'm so glad I found it! Maria seems to be a genuinely lovely woman & you can feel her excitement for exploring musical & vocal expression. I hope they decide to come back to King's Theater (Brooklyn, NY) soon! Or even a bigger venue like MSG!
Maria's voice is incredible! I get goose bumps every time I hear her solo's, so great to see this interview and learn a bit more direct from her, brilliant that you arranged this interview Elizabeth.
I loved this interview. Amazing job getting time with her and using that time so well! So many interviewers don't seem to 'get' Maria, Chris or Kai, just floating through, rattling off their list of questions. You two seemed to hit it off quickly, having great chemistry and a real connection. A fascinating, deeper look into both of your personalities. It was great watching you two "geek out" with each other over your many shared interests. Learned so much and fell even deeper in love with both your unique, free spirits. Just fantastic, thank you.
One of the most powerful and beautiful vocals ever recorded... just jamming, pure improv, one take. Wow. Also, Hellblade 2 looks phenomenal. The original is one of the best games ever made.
One of the best interviews I've seen for a musician. No question after question, doesn't feel forced, yall are just enjoying your time and discussing everything. Loved it.
I love hearing about Maria's process. I appreciate the way Heiling was formed and their creative process as well. Kai (sp?) standing half-naked, screaming in the garden... yes, please.
I love Heilung and Euzen. This was a great interview (my favorite with Maria so far). BTW, Annicke Shireen, who Maria mentions does her makeup and sings with Heilung, also has an eponymous band ("Shireen") that is amazing and worth checking out!
I recently learned of Heilung and going down the RUclips rabbit hole brought me here. What a fantastic interview! Both of you are so humble and so down to earth. As a classical musician, I can confidently say the talent here is unmistakable. Seeing two women of your caliber discussing music and even being so natural to just sit down and have tea together... Amazing! I even broke out my own tea to drink along with you. Might I recommend lapsang souchong tea if you are ever looking for something new to try. The way I describe it is "a campfire in tea form". If you could capture the flavor of a campfire and make a tea out of it, lapsang souchong would be it. It can easily be purchased on amazon for pretty cheap.
Ah, I am already sure this is going to be amazing! Love Maria Franz in everything she does, from Euzen to Heilung, from Songleikr to everywhere she joins as a guest :D
@@TheCharismaticVoice Oh, for sure! I remember seeing her live with Euzen for the first time at Castlefest in 2012 and I've been enchanted ever since. Great interview, thank you for this video :)
I fell for Maria when she used to do "Have Euzen the news?" on the Euzen YT channel. Then Heilung Castlefest took it to another level. Wonderful Person, with a wonderful respect of what grounded our ancestors.
I live down the street from Red Rocks. That venue already has a spiritual presence to it. With Heilung, I can't even imagine what it will be like I've had tix for this show FOREVER!!!!! Can't wait for it to get here.
I was on a business trip a couple of weeks ago and for some divine reason they were in the customs line right next to me on Dallas airport, I saw her hair and I started thinking "I know who she is, I really know" of course once I asked if she was actually Maria I almost started fangirling LOL... long story short they had a show the night before and were flying back home, I was flying from Mx to MN and had no idea they had a show the night before otherwise I would tried to be at least one night there to attend. Maria and the crew are really kind, she is so lovely and warm in person, I loved having a small chat with her :)
I was about half way through this interview when I realized I hadn't had my tea yet and I felt that I was not fitting in. So I paused it and prepped my own cup of Japanese green tea from Shizuoka. I enjoyed this interview so much. It was so evident that both of you had so much fun!
Ahh wow, this will be awesome. Maria has one of the best vocals in music (my opinion) and our host is a fantastic human being and also one of my favorite humans. I’m excited. Cant wait.
Oh my goodness Maria is so adorable and sweet! She really seemed interested in the interview and was having a really good time with the chat. The fact that she even brought up some of the details of the video was cool.
If you’re wondering why she said hallucinogenic “fabrics”, it’s because the Norwegian word for substance is identical to the word for fabric. So it’s just a small mixup.
Yeah, it can get awkward, my sister when she was younger, used to love designing and making dresses, and was interviewed by the local paper for some reason, and she got asked what she was going to spend her confirmation money on "Jeg skal kjøpe stoff." :P
@@VampyrMygg Assuming "stoff" is the word for fabric, it's cognate in English would be "stuff". There is an older (kind of archaic now) meaning of "stuff" in English which means woolen fabric. I imagine that meaning has become rare in recent centuries as "fabric" became the more common term. Also, "stuffing" is a related word for padding used to fill cushions and such. Oddly, "fabric" is a loanword from French (fabrique) that doesn't mean cloth in any way. It's the verb for making or crafting. Amusingly, one term often used for cloth in French is "matériel" which basically means... stuff (that you can make something with). I guess it isn't uncommon to call cloth "stuff" in various languages. 😄
Considering space-time is also viewed as a fabric. It is a also a foundation/substance for existence. At any rate, probably NOT a mixup, but a near-synonym much like discreet/discrete.

I really enjoyed watching this. Thank you for sharing it. Maria seems to have such a genuine ease and delight about her, it's very infectious. The answer she gave about how dealing with the pandemic had been was entirely focused on the positive things and I loved that. There is this equally reciprocated engagement between Elizabeth and Will, and Elizabeth and Maria. There is genuine, mutual interest and pleasure in the conversations, and it makes them so very enjoyable to listen to.
Many thanks for this conversation , I cant call it an interview , that would take the fun out of this get together . Watching people clad in fur, leather and ancient dress listening to bones and drums I am carried away to ancient times to times when there was such a freshness in the world. The voice of Maria is quite remarkable an animal , bird and human like in sound but on the warm and soothing kind ....Again Thanks very much for letting us in on this conversation !
I was really hoping against all hope that you will get an interview with Maria... I'm so looking forward to this.. Fingers crossed Heilung come to UK in December..
This is still so amazing. Maria is a gift to humanity, actually you both are. Ah mazing. To think of what they're making, that its improvised and comes straight from the heart - that says a lot about who they are. Improvising this deep, moving and profoundly soul-grabbing music, it must mirror the minds it came from and that is an interesting thought. I'd love to meet them and see a ritual live. LOVE to.

Maria seems like such a fun person. Amazing how she takes on such a serious persona of almost a deity on stage.
And what's Maria is saying about the band's work is fascinating, exciting and illustrates the old saying :
- "Inspiration must find you at work"!
So cute you two geeking out, giggling, and talking music.
This woman is absolutely phenomenal. I am in awe.
Two gifted women talk leisurely about their gifts. Pure gold. Or better.
I'm really happy to watch this.
One of the best interviews I've seen for a musician. No question after question, doesn't feel forced, yall are just enjoying your time and discussing everything. Loved it.
PETITION TO HAVE ELIZABETH SING ON THE NEXT HEILUNG ALBUM 😁
Aye!
Two of the most amazing female voices on Earth.... having tea.... How cool is this....!
I agree with this! Shireen is wonderful
First time I’m seeing Maria without her performance attire. Cool seeing and hearing her this way!
I am so happy that this happened. Can't wait to see this tomorrow.
Please also react to some of her performances with Euzen.
I plan to now, Sean!
@@TheCharismaticVoice YES!
Please PLEASE react to the song "Judged By"!!!
@@pikehunter23750 either that or Phobia
I mean, she is rather amazing.
I watched "Norupo" and instantly fell in love with Maria's voice. Obviously being English I don't understand a single word but that does not matter.
I live down the street from Red Rocks. That venue already has a spiritual presence to it. With Heilung, I can't even imagine what it will be like
I've had tix for this show FOREVER!!!!!
I appreciate this so much!
Both women are talented and a nice combination of "geeky" and "elegant".
... and TEA!
Delightful.
WHO DISLIKED 😡 but i’m so happy u interviewed maria herself!! i love you both so much 🥺😭♥️
I was about half way through this interview when I realized I hadn't had my tea yet and I felt that I was not fitting in. So I paused it and prepped my own cup of Japanese green tea from Shizuoka. I enjoyed this interview so much. It was so evident that both of you had so much fun!
I just went straight for the gin! Green Tea sounds better
I simply adore both of these women, their talent and creativity is unmatched and they're both such powerful presences on stage!
Ahh wow, this will be awesome. Maria has one of the best vocals in music (my opinion) and our host is a fantastic human being and also one of my favorite humans. I’m excited. Cant wait.
Watching these two people vibing on their shared love is amazing. Thank you for sharing!
I would love to see a collaboration of Heilung and Wardruna. I think it would be epic.
YES please
I'm honestly surprised it hasn't happened yet !
I forgot to translate her reply. It has two translations. "I'm going to buy fabrics." Or "I'm going to buy drugs."
That's funny, it's the same word for both in German, too.
Bless you! The tomes you have bring out the most inner energies. It's rare that I find such a power that stirs my soul. Not in the normal way but in the eldest of ways. You have ound that way, that sound, that energy.
The insipirational energy of this interview was off the charts!
It's crazy how Maria mentioned bjork being an inspiration for her I noticed before watching this that her voice is very similar to bjorks style in some ways.. thats awesome
Maria is so beautiful like her voice
This has to be the interview of the year. If the world leaders could truly experience what Heilung is throwing down the world would be a much healthier place. And though mushrooms would be nice, it’s really not necessary, the way Heilung brings the spirit world directly to the listener it just brings you to that place. Thank you Maria for adding that special layer to articulate this experience.
1:00:38 Amazing, I was dying to know if they were just allowing Ninja Theory to use their current music or if they actively worked on new material for Senua's Saga.
They already have two songs in the newest trailer. From about 9 months back from today's posting. Their in the trailer also, about the 1 minute mark in normal clothing.
Heilung are legends. Important stuff for anyone still trying to hang on to their heritage that's being snuffed out.
😍😍😍😍
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands...
I love Heilung and I'm hoping so much that the concerts will take place this year....
🧘♀️🧘♀️
Me too! My tickets are sitting right here... and I am staring in envy.
@@TheCharismaticVoice Let's keep our fingers crossed... Mine are hanging around with some festival and other concert tickets.... I miss live music so much!!!
@@TheCharismaticVoice I still have to wait until November until they (hopefully) come to Munich
My wife and I are on a road trip and just listened to your Anoana review, and now enjoying listening to this great interview. We saw Heilung live last year and it was a truly spiritual experience. They stir up deeply rooted primal emotions. They are incredible.
23:45 you give Maria the word "banshee" to describe your favorite vocal technique of hers. She accepts it as the official name of the technique.
The fangirling comes full circle, and I love it.
EDIT: I stand corrected. 1:02:15 you look sooo close to tears hearing Maria praise what you do! I loved it and agree with every word.
I am AGOG that you got to sit with, speak with and experience, the goddess behind Heilung!!
I'm just picturing Kai just screaming at nothing in Maria's yard lmfao
Given that she came up in the discussion, you should do a Björk reaction: another fascinating vocal stylist.
Yes please
HOLY shit now this I didn't expect. I'm reeeally excited for this one!
I've had 2 spiritual experiences. One was at Malin Head Ireland. The other was seeing Heilung live in Denver. It's still not out of my system. I went in a fan. I left obsessed.
Such an amazing interview, thank you! I'm so glad Maria mentioned Hellblade 2, because the first one is in my opinion one of the best games ever made. Such an emotional work of art. I was actually a fan of Heilung before having played the game, so them scoring the music for the sequel is a dream come true.
Hellblade truely one of the best games ever made. The last fight is beyond epic. Heilung will slay in Hellblade 2.
OMG I am so glad you were able to talk to Maria. She is such an amazing person and so down to earth. Love the fact she is a larper would love to hang out with her and the whole group.
I don't know why, but this is the most wholesome interview I've ever seen.
I hope you are able to do more interviews with artists you've reacted to!
I love Heilung all of them are good talented artist but mostly Maria's voice is like a golden goddess she sounds so wonderful even if she is singing like a native indian at times ♥
HEAVY BREATHING.... ok. All good. I'm ok. I'm fine.
Me too as I saw the thumbnail and title.
E Y E S. W I D E N I N G.
I was doing fine until the Shardblade. It's too much, this is too awesome.
Lol I woke up this morning and scrolled through RUclips with one eye open. Found this and both eyes lit up and I sat straight up😂
This is just such a wholesome series of videos to watch. All the way from Elizabeth's jaw dropping when she reacted to in maidjan up to them drinking tea and having a chat
Thanks for this, Elizabeth and Maria! I'm only 10 mins in and I've had a huge smile on my face the whole time. It's so great to see you two geeking out together over music, tea, roleplaying, and giant swords!
I was at Red Rocks for Wardruna in 19. The crowd will definitely have horns on.
Shireen is amazing, i knew she sang with Heilung but didnt know she also did makeup. her solo stuff is amazing.
I think it says so much that Elizabeth seems a little overwhelmed to be talking to Maria it shows a true admiration.
Thank you SO MUCH for this interview, Elizabeth; it was absolutely amazing seeing you two have such a blast, while at the same time being super-informative. I am so happy for you making a new friend. I hope you two stay in touch because there is never enough geekiness in the world. ^^
I really enjoyed watching this. Thank you for sharing it.
Maria seems to have such a genuine ease and delight about her, it's very infectious. The answer she gave about how dealing with the pandemic had been was entirely focused on the positive things and I loved that.
This conversation reminded me of the one with Will Ramos because of the... I don't know what word to use... The simpatico.
There is this equally reciprocated engagement between Elizabeth and Will, and Elizabeth and Maria. There is genuine, mutual interest and pleasure in the conversations, and it makes them so very enjoyable to listen to.
The Charismatic Voice did a great job with this interview, I would fall out of my chair trying to make words attempting to talk to her .
You both have a lovely chemistry together. I hope you will be able to meet each other in person when you are going to the Heilung concert
I knew on your first Heilung reaction that you were digging it. When Maria showed her vocal skill you were hooked.
LOVE to.
One of my favorite female singers, with my favorite reactor, with Oathbringer and Mayalaran in the background from my favorite book series...This is awesome!
Glad someone else noticed the gigantic SWORD in the background. Two of my favorite humans in one video... Very cool
Nerding out!!! Heilung got me through soo many days last year, and getting to learn more about Maria was a real treat, thanks so much for this!
Coolest interview on the web
Can't wait to see them in August
For Elizabeth: you mentioned your love of tea. I would highly suggest trying the handcrafted, organic teas from Teography. They are a small family business out of Taos, New Mexico. I think you would find their offerings quite delicious and unique. Happy cuppa!!
Huge fan of Maria Franz especially her work with Euzen. Brilliant singer. Can't wait to he here more in the future.
didn't even feel like an interview, just a chill tea time packed with a lot of interesting content. loved it.
I am smitten by her voice and her stage presence, now seeing her like this just confirms she is a beautiful and very talented young woman. So glad you got to interview her.
I found your page at the perfect time....Eivor last week and Maria Franz this week! You have such good taste in music. Just like mine....
Great interview, I love how you go from fan to vocal expert and back. Only you could do this interview.
I doubt only I could, BUT... I'm going to dream that it's true. ;-)
I am so happy you guys did this interview together. I can never get tired of hearing Maria talk.
I can see these two becoming real good friends.
