One of the first rock songs that blew my little primary school mind when it came out. I freaking loved it and was in grade 4. All these years later, it still holds up for me as a brilliant rock song and I still freaking love it!

Their song Because I Love You is more laid back but a classic of Aussie music

I remember my Dad ranting about 'bloody long haired bloody layabouts!' when this was on the telly. They are one of the first Oz rock bands I remember hearing, and they were so different to other stuff at the time, like The Seekers. They were an important part of our musical evolution. 🌞

Hi Greg. Love your deep cut reactions. Any chance of reviewing Pablo Cruise, Ocean Breeze (from their first album, the studio version)? It has such awesome piano, and one of the most beautiful guitar solos (along with wonderful vocals). I think you would love that song. Thanks for considering.

    A great classic Greg!
The Masters Apprentices were a stalwart of 60's/70's Australian rock and you know the lead singer, Jim Keays. You have played him with Russell Morris and Darryl Cotton a little while ago. The bass player, Glenn Wheatley, went on to manage people like John Farnham amongst others.

Saw these guys live in Perth in the late sixties and they rocked the hall. They did this song and the volume and energy was such that you didn't notice the lack of a brass section. Sadly, Jim (vocalist) and Glenn (bass player and the man who put everything on the line to finance Whispering Jack for John Farnham) are no longer with us, RIP. Not sure about the other two guys but I loved that black Les Paul.

South Australia really punched above it's weight back then: Masters Apprentices, Cold Chisel, The Angels, Paul Kelly, Red Gum and others.

Jim Keays (RIP) is another Scottish-born legend who migrated to South Australia. TMA were a great band!

His 62 years in Australia and only 5 years in Scotland makes him more Australian than I am as I am only 59 years old. LOL
I met him back in the 90's, he was an Aussie dont worry about that.

yes my brother was a roadie and had some great times with Jim. Also I've been here since '63 but still switch to a Scottish accent when I talk with my family or any other Scot lol being Scottish doesn't go away

I am so happy that you reviewed this. This is my all time favourite Australian band. Not the greatest promo clip that they did. Think they were a bit ripped.

Well before my time but damn, special effects back in first couple of decades of tv were so bad....ha ha
I do not know much about this band other than heard their name and manager Glenn Wheatley would forever be linked to resurrecting John Farnham career in late 1980's. But funny seeing his face in that video with such long hair.. I might be wrong on this but I thought one band member had links to Olivia-Newton-John. Whomever was Olivia's best friend and performing partner on tv when they were teenagers would end up marrying some guy from a band back then and that guy would end up writing a lot of hits for Olivia Newton-John for her solo career. Do not know the guys name but he wrote some famous songs in Grease and her famous hit Magic. Maybe it a guy in another rock band from that era.

Had a look and John Farrar the person I thinking of that had strong connection to Olivia-Newton-John. He was in some other band from the 1960's called The Strangers.

Glenn was their bass player at the time. In his first venture as a manager with RSO he failed miserably to sign a contract with The Sweet.
