Oh girl, it’s gonna be beautiful. Sorry I’ve missed your post. I have been terribly sick. Just got home from the hospital. I’m catching up now on the most recent videos.
Oh no! I hope you are doing ok. No worries on missing videos, health comes first. Hopefully the videos help you feel the tiniest better or at least help take your mind off whatever ales you.
I always get a good tips from each of your vids! Planting this with another vine, so it always looks good...genius. I have 3 different passion fruit vines in my yard, but I guess I need this one too. This and coral honeysuckle on my side yard fence. Yes!
I love your videos so much- THANK YOU! They are truly so comprehensive and helpful. I think you’re in south florida (you lucky grower, you:) You would be in heaven at my cousins nursery there in Pompano! NSE Tropical, is the nursery name. She grows all the stuff I have to draaaaaag inside every cold snap. 🤷♀️ Glutton for punishment what can I say lol
I think it was you I was discussing my mailibar spinach It finally sprouted to day that took almost three weeks. But I was patient because to said slow and steady
I have 3 that was growing very well until the Caterpillars found them -- they ate all the leaves off one so far and it died to the ground -- all were over 8 feet tall -- is their anything that will keep them away from the plants??? Maybe Mem Oil??
Is the maypop one that once you plant it will pop up everywhere?. I bought a native passionvine that died for some reason. But now it is popping up in my grass and all over my back yard.
What state do you live in? I got some Maypop, but I noticed it's not the same as my neighbors, I am conserned that Maypop will not be correct in the state of CA for the Gulf Frittilary Butterfly. Perhaps my neighbor has the Nellie Kelly Passion vine. Also what five butterflies use maypop as their host plant? Thanks, I am also doing the Passion vine+Jasmin fingers crossed :)
This may not apply to California... Purple passionflower is larval host plant for numerous butterfly species, including Gulf Fritillary, (Agraulis vanillae), and Zebra Longwing (Heliconius charithonia), the state butterfly of Florida. It also is host to the Crimson Patch Longwing (Heliconius erato), Red-banded hairstreak (Calycopis cecrops)and Julia Heliconian (Dryas iulia) butterflies.
There’s different species my Gilf fritillary California Caterpillar will only eat Bahama Blue Passiom Vine. I purchased Maypop and won’t eat it & rather starve or eat stems of non leaf Bahama Blue Vine. Now I’m in hunt for buying more Bahama Blue but started plants can’t keep up with the large appetite of the Gulf fritillary caterpillar. So the Maypop just insists there beautifully with purple & white flower while caterpillar ignores it. California Gulf Butterfly in my yard only want the Bahama Blue Vine aka skinny thinner taller leaves. The Maypop and other passiom fruit vines are wide and fatter the caterpillar here in California don’t like those leaves. There’s so many species, check out Etsy for all the different plant species you can find. Bahama Blue is my favorite 🌿

I have a red passion flower in my yard, similar three finger leaves. Beautiful, but does not produce fruit. ~~~ I've been trying, without success, to find out if it can be used to make a calming tea the same as the purple flowers (or leaves from)??? I've read that some passion vines can produce toxic chemicals that you don't want to ingest, but details are extremely limited. Any help is greatly appreciated!
@Lauren Rhoads Lauren, it's not the same red flower as most of the pictures I get when searching for "red passion flower". After some more research yesterday, it appears to be a hybrid named "Lady Margaret Passion Vine". Do you know, does you statement still hold true?? Either way, do you have any sourses?? Thank you
@Lauren Rhoads Thanks, I appreciate the info. I found one of those pages during research, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information that particular plant. It's good to know it won't hurt the Florida natives. But, I guess I shouldn't be using that plant for tea. :( Still a beautiful addition to my yard. Thanks again
Gulf Fritillary love them, sadly I had raised 5 caterpillars to butterflies, ran out of plant leaves purchased from Etsy and sadly killed my 6 new babies, found out was treated with Neem Oil Pesticide. I was so sad to see 5 a babies dropping a few days after hatching and my oldest almost butterfly slowly died never developed wings 😢 please be careful when purchasing from Nurseries or Garden Centers. Now I’m trying o grow by seed. I, trying so hard and seeds just take longer, but my next Spring I should raise many new Butterflies 🦋
Hi Elizabeth! My soil is very sandy too. I've turned it into black gold over the last couple years. I make maggot compost (vermicomposting) and then mulch! Just adding deep mulch can change it in about 6 months.
My sons puppy kept having foaming mouth and dripping saliva after going out in the dog run. There was a wild passion vine out there with these same orange caterpillars. He determined it was the caterpillars causing this distress to the puppy, so chopped down and dug out the passion vine! Now I see butterflies coming and looking for the vine! But, to be fair, no more sick puppy.
Gulf fritillary butterflies are not harmful at all! Their “spikes” are there to make them look threatening, but beside that, they cause no harm whatsoever. Digging up the passion vine was a foolish decision that was fueled by ignorance.
@@Talonflamez That orange catipillar with the spikes has poison in its spikes. I laid my forearm on top of one once and it stung the crap out of me. It felt like a burning cigarette was stuck to my arm. It burned all day and itched for a week.
You can get there! I have mulched A LOT. I use the free mulch service getchipdrop.com to get truck loads and have put 12 inches over the last couple years. And home made compost too.
Wrong information! Maypop and purple passion fruit are not the same flower! They are the same family for sure, but not the same! Maypop are yellow, and not as sweet. Further more, maypop are more cold hardy than purple passion fruit!
I had this plant in our back yard when I was young, And I still think about it. I love it ❤
I love passion flower ❤️. I am so happy you got some. I hope you're enjoying passion flower tea.
I am! Thank you for all the advice on the passion vine! :)
@@WildFloridian you're welcome

Great video 🌿🐛🦋
As usual, this is a great video! Keep up the great work! I love your enthusiasm!
Thanks Jamie! Will do!

That does happen sometimes with life ;) I am very excite about your mailibar spinach!

Lots of passion vines will pop up everywhere 🌱
Definitely want to add this to the collection. How do you differentiate the fruiting and not fruiting kind?
The native passion vine all fruit... the taste varies from what I’ve learned.
Do you sell cuttings or plants? I'm in South Fl. Would love this! I have the yellow and a baby purple passion...I want Grandilla too!
I have a passion vine with wider, larger leaves, and it’s flowers are a dark violet. Could it possibly be a different species?

Oh how mindless I am some times... Sorry 'bout that you're Floridian... Hopfully CA is good for this type of Passion flower+Gulf Frittillary.

The red passion flower is not a native to America and is toxic to are native caterpillars. I am not sure if it's toxic to humans

Well come on down 🌸 😄 And I agree! Thanks for checking out my videos 😄
Except we’re rapidly destroying it 😞
How is your soil so black and rich. Mine is just sand. Nothing black and organic or nutrient rich. #SoilEnvy

If you ingest parts of the plant besides the fruit with an maoi inhibitor, be prepared for some pretty intense hallucinations. Do not recommend.
