Jay Graydon(Vocal), David Foster(Piano), leland sklar (Bass), Chester Thomson (Drum), they all the best musician for all of time. And Horn section is incredible.
Not only is Jay Graydon a master at crafting guitar solos, his tone is sublime, phrasing, just everything, but he sings really good on top of that. And Warren Wiebe in the background man, love this guy's voice. A shame he passed away so young.
Wow. Must have been a blast. I always hear and read he was a very humble man. I got to know him by hearing David Fosters stuff and the beatiful tune 'old photograph' by Sadao Watanabe. A shame he had his struggles. @MonteMontgomery1
So Ladies and Gents, this is the very man and the very guitar that helped Steely Dan nail the guitar solo for Peg on the Aja album in 1977, after half a dozen distinguished guys had tried their luck before.

I have been a huge fan of Foster/ McDonald/ Boz/ Graydon etc. since forever (early eighties?) - Tonight is the first I ever heard of Airplay. Incredible!.
They don't make them like this anymore. Unbelievable talent. Warren Wiebe on the right of Jay has one of the sweetest voices ever. Listen to his version of Roxanne. R.I.P. Warren, wish you will still with us.
First time ever hearing JG sing! I thought he just did studio guitar work.... this was really good ... reminded me of some Toto stuff. Of course JG & Steve Lukather are buds so I can see the rub😊👍👍👍
The great Bassist Lee Sklar the Seawind horn section. Guitarist Jay Graydon is a awesome Guitarist. And great vocalist . I got hip to Guitarist Jay Graydon back in the winter of 1977. He did a lot of the Rhythm Guitar on the Captain Fingers Album solo project by Guitarist Lee Ritenour. And Jay threw down on some funky chord progressions on that project. Jay is a very talented Guitar soloist as you all heard him perform. Basskat Detroit MI.
Jay Graydon...fantastic musician....his phrasing was top notched. Collaborating with al jarreau, tom canning, Toto, Nathan east, Greg phillinganes, Mr mister, David foster, Chaplin, etc.......
I used to know Jay Graydon as a producer and studio-guitar player (especially the PEG-solo on Steely Dan's AJA), but not as a solo performer. But this is nice, soft swinging, widely arranged 80th fusion stuff that I REALLY miss todays! Great to listen to all night long!
Arguably the greatest guitar solo on a song in recent memory was provided by Jay Graydon on Christopher Cross' "Never Be the Same" from 1980. In fact, so good it deserved a better song😜
David Foster and Jay Graydon make magic together. Very good friends and music partners. Let's not forget Jay and his most notable work with the late and legendary Al Jarreau, which David also paired with Jay to help on a number of songs with. Airplay would have gone heights if Jay agreed to continue in the band. In 2014, he mentioned in an interview how much he regrets not agreeing on going on a tour when David asked him to. They had different work commitments at the time. Thank you so much for posting this and reminding us of the magic these two create in unity.
It was back in 1980, I got into Waseda Univ. as a student, and spent days for part time jobs and parties. At a mall where I had a part time job, a senior sales man usually listened to Air Play album, and it was so new and flesh to me that I was amazed. Then I bought a Painoneer record player, amp, and speakers with monthly installment and Air Play album. The record was gone somewhere since I played too many times. Their music sounded so different to me, and still are very lively in 2020s.

@@chalklounge You're right that Graydon is miming here, but he's miming his own vocals from the original recording. Funderburk didn't sing on this track.
@@chalklounge Sure it is. Graydon sang on this track, "Cryin' all Night", "Should We Carry On", "Leave Me Alone", and "She Waits For Me". Funderburk sang on the remaining tracks (with Bill Champlin on "Bix" and "After the Love Is Gone"). Their voices are quite different, so I'm always surprised when people think Funderburk sang on all the tracks.
