Actually it's South Korea that's killing KPop culture. The music was always western, it's the Korean lyrics that made it special. If you stick to Korean lyrics you will grow slower but be more genuine. The only reason to switch to English is greed. It was the South Korean government and companies that decided to speed up the Hallyu wave, not Americans.

Switching to English not greed that’s ridiculous, so are people like let’s say Shakira switched for greed, she started of all Spanish then switched to all English then went back to doing Spanish, and that’s her right she should be able to explore as she wants, same goes for Kpop, let these artist be like jeez

No one said anything about the artists. Everyone is free to do what they want.

Well I’m a Kpop fan and I appreciate both their Kpop songs and English songs, don’t assume everyone is like you or other fans, some off us know how to appreciate both, many Spanish artist do this as well, Shakira for example, she started of all Spanish then switched to English and now she does which ever she wants and that’s perfectly ok, we are not the artist and the artist should be able to perform exactly what they want

K-pop has literally always been massively influenced from western music. Its always been 5-15 years behind western music. Especially since they usually get the songs produced for western artists that they didnt take.
It literally used to be a joke back in early 2000's that if you heard a trend in western music that you'd hear it in kpop in 5+ years
Also kpop has always been about business and noy "art" its probably the most manufactured music you can get.

    • @someotheralias
      @someotheralias 9 месяцев назад +5

Right? Majority of the "hit" kpop songs were composed by Westerners. The only thing they added was Korean lyrics and overproduced sounds like all music of the 2010s. Everyone knows the 2010s were the age of producers and EDM was the scene. Now the trend is going back to less produced, melodic music, and kpop stans complain that American music is ruining Kpop. Uhhh.. no it's called global trend.

What people don’t seem to understand is that, yes, Kpop has been “influenced” by western music, *but* within their music it’s always remained their culture, mannerisms, way of life and ideas.
Despite them being behind the times by 10-15 years, within the music Kpop kept the vulgarity and nasty lyricism out of it.
You can say it had some of it, but it most definitely didn’t take over the majority of Kpop like it’s doing today.
And that is what majority of American music is and has been.
In fact, so many Kpop fans came here specifically to get away from the kind of lyrics, “dance” moves and outfits that consistently tell people they want to get laid and want to do it right now for the world to see by pretty much anyone.
That kind of “openness” was not in Kpop and for good reason.
Kpop also used more adult language, in that it spoke like you weren’t a child all the time.
It was and is manufactured, but Kpop was Korean. It wasn’t just the lyrics or the influence.
American music is influenced by many cultures but we know it’s American specifically because of how it acts.
This is what’s ruining kpop in many ways and what will be its downfall.
American culture itself has become the entire focal point and embedded its way into Korea and is slowly but quickly turning it into America.
    Which isn’t good for anyone.
No one preys on little people much like kpop idols do as they intentionally gather in children only to turn around and let it all hang loose.

Actually, as commentors before me, K-pop has always been influenced by Western culture. Even in JYP's "A2K" series, he stated that when he moved to America he fell in love with soul music, and you can definitely see how in a lot of K-pop music there may be a jazz or R&B feel to it.

Kpop can't become westernized when it's built off of western music to begin with. The only valid complaints would be that they are using more and more English, and turning away from the gimmicky songs with slightly weird or tacky styling. Also, I understand the Korean culture part, but what is this "Kpop culture" you speak of? Kpop has been influenced by the West since the very beginning. I understand if you want to say that Kpop is some sort of fusion of western music and the Korean culture/language, but to say that Kpop itself is a culture when it is and always has just been a carbon copy of the west is a bit...

“In terms of music, Black music is the base. Even when doing many genres like house, urban, and PBR&B; there’s no change to the fact that it is Black music." - Bang Shi-hyuk, the CEO of BigHit Entertainment

This whole video is ridiculous, Kpop was created from western influences and culture, the only thing that made it K pop was the Korean language, an artist should be able to sing whatever they want, Shakira started of singing in Spanish and then she latter started releasing music in English that did not stop her from making Spanish music she just catered to her growing multilingual fanbase and that totally ok, I have no problem with Kpop artist wanting to broadening their reach, leave these Kpop artists alone and let them do what they want, you don’t like it then you have out grown them and move on to another group that more suits you, but stop trying to keep these artist in a box for y’all own selfish reasons, I said what I said and this is my take

PSY is the original to break out in the USA 🇺🇸 We are not ruining K-pop, Korean idols are making a choice to make albums in all English. Therefore, I don't consider them K-pop anymore.

    America did not ruin Kpop.
As all the commentators said, Kpop is not some new invention.
It literally is Western music in the Korean language, it has been since day one.
America isn't reshaping it either. The companies that handle these idols are lol. I'm just in disbelief at how dumb this is.
So, because THEY want to come to the west to promote and sing in English with a bunch of American/Western references from even Latino America....AMERICA is ruining it?
C'mon now, no one is putting a gun to their heads telling them HOW to make music. They are and have been doing it themselves by following the trends here.
Heck, young and old people in Korea keep using words in English and using it in their everyday convo even though they have the words for it already. No one is telling them to do that, they are doing it themselves because from what they have said (from street interviews on youtube) "It sounds cooler in English" 💀

Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Thailand, India, ... many asia countries have their own unique pop music style. But kpop is the only one who KEEPS repeating (or I shall say was influenced by, just to sound nice) the western music trend. They are always following a trend, but they never invent a trend or unique style. JUST BECAUSE MOST OF THEIR IDOLS CAN'T EVEN WRITE THEIR OWN ALBUM! kpop did look fresh at first, but eventually it's getting boring as what's the point to listen to kpop when they are literally the same thing as western music? Perhaps it's time to go back to western music🤷

We cannot deny the influence of Western music to Kpop. However, this is just an evolution and at the same time, a means to survive. With the influx of new groups, they cannot survive by just catering to their domestic audience. In the end, it is a matter of choice and taste of the listener/viewer.

Ummmm. Last I heard Rock and especially Rap and Hip Hop were not native to Korea. K POP is based on western music. Without it you don't have Kpop. So perhaps look to the history of the music.
    And all music changes.
Again the genre itself is based on Western music. So to say it's losing its Korean culture, perhaps rethink.
    Remember this is a business.
