Oh geez. My dad’s a urologist and he’d hate that. He once explained its the only specialty that practices both medicine and surgery, which is why he chose it.
Haha. I just came to the realization that in my 15 years of being an MD, I have yet to see an EEG showing seizure activity! It's always something like "diffuse nonspecific background slowing... seen in metabolic and toxic encephalopathy" or something like that. 😆
As an EEG tech, most odd behaviour/low GCS in patients is caused by something other than seizure activity. The diffuse encephalopathy is extremely common. There might be sharp waves in the mix, but those can often also be attributed to the metabolic stuff. If we see seizure activity in an adult with no known epilepsy and a clean CT-C, we wanna see that MRI! 😉
I've actually seen one in my first year of residency. It was a prolonged non-convulsive status and funnily enough, it was psychiatry who suggested doing an EEG
This made me giggle for sure! I was fortunate to have a very skilled neurosurgeon save my life, and he had excellent bedside manner, believe it or not. Then at follow up a neurology student got REALLY excited I had an abnormal exam (little bit o brain damage from the surgery) and her excitement was hilarious. Then after a few moments she started profusely apologizing for getting so excited
I had the same thing with vasovagal syncope. One the one hand you feel like less like a human and more like a "work task to be resolved," but they were so chill about it... Fuzzy Potato - I'm tempted to ask the name of the surgeon...? I need a spinal fusion revision. It was an unnecessary surgery (I was 13 y.o.; it was my parents' decision), botched by the ortho bro, necessitating this revision. So, I'm understandably hesitant, looking for one who truly IS the best of the best.
@docgammycat5409 If you're still looking, I HIGHLY recommend looking up the potential neurosurgeons in your area and reading reviews. (It's how we found my dad's oncologist, and she is incredible.) Nothing wrong with being picky when your body's on the line. One of the other most powerful recommendations you can get is word of mouth from other professionals. Growing up we had a family friend who is one of the most prominent neurosurgeons in our country as was his father. He was one of the coolest persons at the parties our parents went to. However most of the times he had to call from the phone wherever the party was and an hour or so the phone always rang so he had to go :) Bottomline i always had the impression that the neurosurgeons are the cool kids of medicine, but they are just awfully busy ... not like here :) i'll send him this one ;)
I am part of the onboarding team for Neurology at my work.
I love this with my whole heart.
As an anesthesiologist I've had 30 years of the pleasure of witnessing and interacting with all of the stereotypes presented in these videos. What a strange trip it has been.
Anesthesiologists are the chillest amongst the bunch....maybe it's from all the "goodies" you guys have up your sleeves
Thank God Neurosurgery has stopped trying to smile!
You encounter Neurology and think "Oh, he's the worst", and then you meet Neurosurgery and you're like "Oh, actually Neurology is the more tolerable of the two" lol
neurology's family lore is deep
“Why did he chuck up a drill bit in an impact driver?”
-Ortho
You're the only one who noticed
I noticed too. Had a chuckle.
Hey this was my suggestion! Thank you Dr. G for this!
I am wondering whether the Rural Medicine will ever have time for a therapy...if Texaco Mike could substitute for a day or two :-).
rural medicine's closest thing to therapy is communal venting at the nurse's station
Bros...wow I didn't even see it coming! Great video keep em coming I'm all in.
Thank you so much! I also love your drill has a light! I finally bought one of those lights you wear like a dorky sweat band and it also is able to tilt which was awesome when I replaced my faucet! Still thrilled i got 2 for 10 bucks off Amazon! Lol it's the simple things.
As an ortho bro I’m appalled by the use of an impact driver with a slightly bent drill bit. It hurts my ancef pumper.
Sorry bro
I wish to see the Neuro family interacting all at once now. Also surprised the set didn't collapse from the opposing gravitational forces of Neurology and Neurosurgery's massive egos
I thought they'd end up bonding over being condescending to the psychiatrist tbh
I hope he's been doing enough mirror therapy and not just hitting the bourbon, even though I wouldn't blame him
There is crossover potential between neurology and opthalmology since some neurological diseases first present as eye issues.
Best one yet! I love the brain bros!
Their cousins are a neurophysiologist and neuropsychologist who just wanted an atom of acknowledgement at Christmas
I have been waiting SO LONG for this video! It did not disappoint! 🧠🧠🧠🧠 (in lieu of hearts, I opted to use the superior organ emoji to express my appreciation)
That was the plot twist of the year! I wonder if that will come to play in a future video 😄
The meeting I've been waiting for. Love it! Keep going. 😄
Greatest plot twist since Skywalker finding out that Darth Vader is his father
As an autistic engineer, the fact that the drill bit in the neurosurgeon's drill is off-axis seriously bothers me.
tbh i just loved the look on your phase at the very end, the horror was great
Lol about the EEG never capturing seizures. It's like the neurons know they're being watched.
It can happen, but it is fairly rare. If we do catch a seizure, it's likely PNES - PNES wants to get caught!
I've seen it once! Prolonged non-convulsive status epilepticus. Funnily enpugh, it was psychiatry who suggested we do an EEG.
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE DAY ONEEEEEE
When I was an interpreter I knew down-to-earth and arrogant neurologists; however, all the neurosurgeons were always so kind and laid-back. I must have been lucky!
Mrs and Mr Dr. Rutskowski should react to this LOL. They're a neurology & neurosurgeon couple
I see my neurologist and vascular neurologist over the next 2 weeks, I'm so going to talk to them about you! Lol
Im in the hospital right now and neurology and neurosurgery are currently saving my life, so mad props to both of them.
The cordless drill was great!
I freaking love how you remembered to make Neurosurgery yank his tag back hahahaha 🤣 extremely accurate
By the way, Great article and quotes by Kristen in the latest post by Medscape on CPR and its repercussions. I have personally performed CPR successfully and unsuccessfully and enjoyed reading the response and hopefully plan ahead, to acknowledge the psychological trauma and aftermath for providers. Thanks to your wife for her contribution to this effort. Cheers.
We need therapy of ortho and the neurosurgeon. They need to decide who takes the spinal cases
I love your videos. This one was super funny.
Was hoping for the you don't see the resemblance joke! 😂 Great stuff as usual!
As someone who works in neurotrauma, I nearly choked 🤣😂
OR gown was hilarious. The only time I got to use an OR gown like the was during my neurosurgery rotation hahaha
The certificate!
And the entire rest of it - it's awesome, and that pair is so cute.
I came from the other video 7 months ago, when some comment asked you to do this. You're great.
I usually think character development is the sign of a failing storyline, but I love this! Of course they were brothers, they look just like each other.
The flat affect of Neurosurgery is spot on 😂 We had a NSRGY Fellow one that had personality.... I wonder what happened to him 🤔
You are brilliant! I’m falling out of the chair laughing. Yes. I’m weird 🤣
"His ego was elevating his intracranial pressure to dangerous levels. I was saving his life!" HAHAHAHA
I have that same impact driver. Very good tool.
It's going to turn out that the whole hospital (except the OBGYN) are related. That's why they look so alike!
I HOLLERED when they said "no EEG in history has ever captured seizure activity". And that's as a healthcare worker and a mom of a kid with seizures who's had EEGs. Hilarious.
I AM SOBBING, THIS IS PERFECT
hell yeah this is the one ive been waiting for
I’m taking neuro now and this cannot be more accurate. 😂😂
Lol I have been waiting for this one! The neurosurgeon not understanding relationships rings true with one in my town.
That plot twist,got me!
Another 🔥 video doc, well done. What about ENT doctors skits? I think you haven't make one. Or maybe cardiothoracic residency interview will be great.
