Royal Albatross ~ YRK RETURNS! 💕 Happy Affectionate Preening & Homecoming With OGK! 1.5.22

- OGK looks up to the sky and sees his lady love coming home and he is so happy! He greets her with a lovely skycall - it has been a long 15 days for OGK to be incubating their egg. Welcome home YRK! ♥ YRK affectionately preens her mate and they spend quite a bit of time together strengthening their bond once again. OGK is not ready to get up so YRK walks around the area several times and then comes back to do more allopreening with OGK.
Finally the changeover occurs at 21:44 and YRK is very happy to be able to incubate once again. This is the dummy egg - the rangers will bring back their egg tomorrow Jan 6th and put under YRK. OGK stayed around doing some gardening before he finally departed back out to sea to forage for food. The southerlies winds picked up with cooler air today and that brought YRK in and hopefully a few more parents! Thank you for watching!

Aww, so glad she's ok, 15 days is a long time to be sitting on the nest, but OGK did it faithfully, trusting that his mate would eventually be back.

I'm done with my arse sitting down on the egg for the whole fifteen days. Fifteen days, you see! Bye" (smug face). But look at OGK, still showing no signs of boredom or exhaustion. The visitor was so starved for social interaction he crashed their reunion. It's very sweet how social these birds are, they spend so much time at sea when they get on land they just want attention! It's adorable

Hi Kathleen yes OGK sat incubating the egg 24/7 for the past 15 days until YRK came back to relieve him of his duties. This is just one example of how dedicated a parent OGK is and how much they depend on one another to raise a chick! I don't know if you ever watched my coverage of OGK returning injured back in 2020 when he was raising Pippa Atawhai. He was gone for a month and then he just showed up like this. It will tug at your heartstrings seeing his commitment to return to feed his chick despite his pain and injuries to his leg. He also has blood on his bill which I zoomed in on back when this happened and it appeared to me to be a hook injury. I believe that OGK was caught in long line fishing and was hooked and the line was wrapped around his leg and he somehow was able to free himself (or the people in the boat freed him). He was very lucky. With the risks of being bycatch and getting tangled in long line fishing nets. I fear that may have happened again to him. OMG, I can't adequately eben begin to express my relief, I confess to loving this pair above all others. Every passing day YRK has been missing I felt fear and hope grappling for my attention.

Well put! It’s true, these birds are so special it’s stressful wondering if something has happened to them, they’re such sweet and pure birds that it would be beyond devastating if one of the parents didn’t return. It’s hard not to get extremely worried for them when one of them is even just a little late ya know? So glad they’re all well! I joke the other parents returned safely too. Btw it won’t be long now before there’s a little baby tross! It’s only sinking in now that there’s going to be an adorable tross’let cheeping from under YRK or OGK’s belly 😆🥰🥰

GE Lady Hawk! I finally got a chance to see this whole reunion video in it's 25min entirety. It never ceases to amaze me how openly loving and affectionate they are with each other. Both YRK and OGK spent so long reestablishing their bond. The visitor that popped on with the red band wanted in on the reunion too lol. I'm so glad this was a smooth transition for OGK to get up and be able to go off and forage again which we know he needed to eat after those 15days! At least he had been hydrated 💦. When the changeover occurs at the 21:44 it appears YRK was relieved to get back on her egg and settles in to incubate (the dummy egg at this time) almost immediately💞. Love the sweeping take off at the end of OGK! Great end scap and cover! Thanks LH! SEDs💜🌙🌚
Oh dear!! It's so cute and sweet this session of kisses and caresses on the neck and head (allopreens) between OGK and YRK. They always melt my heart when they affectionately caress each other, tightening their couple bonds. Thank you so much for this sweet video, Lady Hawk.😍💕💕

Yes. Endangered/ vulnerable. The conservation that supplies the cam and the overseeing of this site are working their hardest to make sure these guys don't disappear. I believe (could be wrong) this is their only nesting site in the world.
After 15 days devoutly fulfilling his duties of incubating his precious egg, OGK spread his majestic wings and flew beautifully. (25:22) Oh sweet selfless love!!!! Finally, our loving OGK went to feed at sea. 😍💕❤💕✌

Hi. He’s been sitting on a dummy egg, so I’m confident it’s not a viable one. The egg that belongs to YRK and OGK is viable and being kept safe in an incubator right now.
And why is it being kept safe, have they had to do this before?
@@barbarapeterson9799 they do it every year. It ensures a safe hatch. These birds are endangered and the conservationists are doing their best to make sure they don't disappear...that Includes protecting the eggs and making sure they hatch.
Why is there a dummy egg in the nest?
To make sure it is protected and continue to develop. They will return the egg tomorrow so she can incubate it. He was on the nest for 15 days while she foraged out to sea.
YRK has been gone for 15 days so just encase OGK was forced to leave the real egg was put in a incubator
