Also Dean Martin had a secret... he was allergic to alcohol and didn't drink either. His daughter admitted this and said he never had alcohol in the house except beer for guests. And this was confirmed by Vegas bartenders who said that when he came to drink with the Rat Pack, he always drank apple juice not alcohol like everyone else.

As others have pointed out, Foster Brooks was a teatotaler. His drunk act was his signature. He even played drunk in cameos on shows like Adam 12. In fact, I seem to recall him being on two episodes of Adam 12. Once as a drunk, and once sober, but with a medical condition that made him stagger and slur his speech. I may be misremembering this, however.

The Dean Martin roasts are legendary. Good fun without the need for profanity. Not that I’m ever offended by language but it seems like some comics use it as a crutch. That’s why I like Brian Reagan so much, real funny and doesn’t resort to it. I’m glad you’re mixing in the comedy stuff, I just hope it doesn’t overshadow the music.

Foster Brooks hailed from my own hometown of Louisville, Kentucky (where he appeared on radio and TV for decades before his national career took off). His regular speaking voice (the drunkenness was always just an act) is as close as you can get to an ANSI standard Louisville accent. (The actress Jennifer Lawrence being another, living, example.) Right on the cusp of Midwestern nasal vowels and Mid-Southern drawl. Brooks in Louisville was both a journalist and portrayed characters in children's programming.
