Foster Brooks had some great skits on the Dean Martin Show. One as a Drunk dentist, doctor, brain surgeon, and my favorite a airline pilot. All are hilarious, having Dean crying it's so funny.
Also Dean Martin had a secret... he was allergic to alcohol and didn't drink either. His daughter admitted this and said he never had alcohol in the house except beer for guests. And this was confirmed by Vegas bartenders who said that when he came to drink with the Rat Pack, he always drank apple juice not alcohol like everyone else.
Him roasting Sammy Davis Jr is crazy funny too, and stuff you could never laugh about today, but they all knew each other and played the comedy off of the public stereotypes to a T
Foster Brooks cracks me up no matter how many times I watch his performances. Really like that you're reacting to music, comedy, etc. 'Variety is the spice of life', as the saying goes. 😊
My favorite is when he is on Dean Martin’s show doing a skit w Dean where he says he’s a airline pilot. He was a bus driver but he quit because there’s too many drunks on the road! It’s hilarious. That’s his act that got him famous late in years. I think he tells his story on Johnny Carson
Foster Brooks classic skit, he also portrays a Drunk Doctor (I think where it started?) on the Dean Martin Show. an Amazing Drunk Imitation! He was hilarious! He has everyone in laughter!
Pretending to be drunk was Foster Brooks' schtick. Ironically, he never drank alcohol in real life. He was one of my favorite regulars on The Dean Martin Comedy Roast shows.
As others have pointed out, Foster Brooks was a teatotaler. His drunk act was his signature. He even played drunk in cameos on shows like Adam 12. In fact, I seem to recall him being on two episodes of Adam 12. Once as a drunk, and once sober, but with a medical condition that made him stagger and slur his speech. I may be misremembering this, however.
The Dean Martin roasts are legendary. Good fun without the need for profanity. Not that I’m ever offended by language but it seems like some comics use it as a crutch. That’s why I like Brian Reagan so much, real funny and doesn’t resort to it. I’m glad you’re mixing in the comedy stuff, I just hope it doesn’t overshadow the music.
I absolutely love the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast. They were so fun and nobody got offended. It was back when everyone could take a joke. Love Foster Brooks
We had basically three major network channels back in the good ol’ early days of TV. But with the kinds of great shows we had (comedies, dramas, adventures, science fiction, westerns, musicals, variety shows, game shows, classic cartoons, etc…), three networks were all we needed! Not 500! 😂
Foster Brooks is the only person I ever saw who could make Don Rickles laugh like that 😂. You should check out his roasts of Sammy Davis Jr. and Lucille Ball. Hilarious.
The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast was a series of TV specials from the 1970s to the early 1980s. It was shown on regular networks, so guests couldn't curse much.
I loved every one of these roasts. I’m 76 years old and sorry that every one on that stage has passed away. I miss them a lot. Phylis aDiller,, Nipsey Russell, Sammy Davis Jr. … those were among the greats in my day.
Foster and his brother Cactus Tom Brooks are from Louisville, Ky Cactus was the clown on the local show T-Bar-V with Randy Atcher. Local history is worth researching, look it up!
I first got to see Foster Brooks on Dean Martin's comedy/variety show back when I was a little kid. He was so hilarious to me. I grew up around a lot of real drunks, who weren't nearly as funny as Foster. I only got to laugh at the drunks I knew when they fell down or passed out with a cigarette burning between their fingers. Happy days! Don't forget to check out Steven Wright.
The first time Foster appeared on Johnny Carson, it actually caused a minor scandal nationwide to the point that Carson had to have Foster back on just a few days later as his real self to prove that it was just an act
That was Foster Brooks own bit as an actor, he popped up all over the place on TV in the 70's and the Dean Martin celebrity roasts were must see TV back then, always many laughs to be had AN NOBODY WAS OFFENDED
Both Foster Brooks and Don Rickels were regulars on the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast, and Foster always played the drunk but would always took on a different persona, Dean Martin's old scout master, Jackie Gleeson's doctor, Chairman of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commers when they roasted Sammy Davis Jr. Great reaction
BTW, Dean Martin is very Italian, and Foster says "that Puerto Rico gentleman".....Dean is laughing so hard. BTW, when Foster sits down, the guy he sits next to is Rich Little (greatest impressionist in history). That is Rowan and Martin from the comedy show "Laugh In", Ben Cartwright from "Bonanza" and Jack Klugman from the "Odd Couple" series in the 70's.
Foster Brooks quit drinking in the 1960s on a bet and never drank again. He became a supporter and spokesman for Mother's Against Drunk Driving. He was a frequent guest on the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. He was always funny, but just did the one bit, with different references, so after the Dean Martin show ended, so did his career.
Foster Brooks hailed from my own hometown of Louisville, Kentucky (where he appeared on radio and TV for decades before his national career took off). His regular speaking voice (the drunkenness was always just an act) is as close as you can get to an ANSI standard Louisville accent. (The actress Jennifer Lawrence being another, living, example.) Right on the cusp of Midwestern nasal vowels and Mid-Southern drawl. Brooks in Louisville was both a journalist and portrayed characters in children's programming.
Great reaction! Foster Brooks is one of my favorites. Take a look at this one. Dean Martin, Ken Lane & Foster Brooks - The Bar/Airline PIlot. Have a great day!
His act is that of a drunk. My brother was on an international flight back in the early 70s and Forest was sitting in first class. As a joke, they put him on the intercom. He was pretending to be the pilot. When everyone found out it was him the whole plane couldn't stop laughing.😂😂😂
Dean Martin (the guy in the beginning introducing Foster) would show up unannounced on the Late Night Show with Johnny Carson. He also sang one of my favorite "oldies" songs, "Houston."
These celebrity roasts were on network TV, NBC, so the language was clean. The jokes did have some suggestive content sometimes. But in a situation like this the performers are all just kidding each other.
My favorites to watch on this show were Foster Brooks, Rich Little & Ruth Buzzi. They were always funny. You will see nothing like this on tv today unless they use tons of cuss words.

I'm still laughing from this dude's shenanigans!! Absolutely hilarious!! 🤣
It is all an act. He did this character well over the years. Dean Martin Celebrity roasts were hilarious.
Its an act inspired by his Dad.
Foster never had a drink. He just used this as his act.
The Best Fake Drunk Comedian EVER
Everyone on that stage were from the greatest era of comedy!

Comedy doesn't have to be dirty to be funny
He plays the BEST SOBER DRUNK you'll ever see!!❤😂😂
Haha 🤣 Absolutely! 💯
Foster Brooks said he isn’t playing a drunk, he is playing a drunk trying to act sober.
Gotcha! He definitely nailed it! 🤣
Charlie Chaplin did this perfectly in one of his early shorts (where he's in a balcony, I think).😊
He even sang too.
The audience is laughing before he even says a word. That's genius.
You need to see Foster Brooks as the pilot at the bar talking to Dean Martin. A classic!
And the dentist...
And the brain surgeon ❤😂
We only had three channels back in those days but some quality programming came on just like this. I always looked forward to the Dean Martin roasts
My favorite is when he is on Dean Martin’s show doing a skit w Dean where he says he’s a airline pilot. He was a bus driver but he quit because there’s too many drunks on the road! It’s hilarious.
That’s his act that got him famous late in years. I think he tells his story on Johnny Carson
as HE puts it " I watched drunks TRYING to act sober, and based my act off of those experiences."
Ironically, Dean Martin was perpetually drunk.
He was a teatotallar really, even his best friend Mr. Frank Sinatra said as much during his own roast at his closing speech
Any of the Dean Martin Comedy Roasts are golden!!! Dean Martin is a master singer and comic in his own rite and worthy of checking out!!!
SO happy to see this being covered!
The best non drinking drunk that ever walked. ❤😂❤😂❤😂❤😂❤😂
Even as a kid. I knew the gold we had in this era of comedy and music. Your enjoying the best of the best in these clips.
@@don1965don Definitely having a blast! Thanks so much for going on the journey with me! 😁
Foster Brooks classic skit, he also portrays a Drunk Doctor (I think where it started?) on the Dean Martin Show. an Amazing Drunk Imitation! He was hilarious! He has everyone in laughter!
One of my favorite skits to listen to coming up at this time of year is Foster Brooks' "12 Days of Christmas".
Told you !! 😁 Airline Pilot from the Dean Martin show.
Foster Brooks has never had a drink in his life but is priceless!!! The lineup of guests is some of the most famous people in television!!!
Pretending to be drunk was Foster Brooks' schtick. Ironically, he never drank alcohol in real life. He was one of my favorite regulars on The Dean Martin Comedy Roast shows.
Thank you for reacting to this!! I remember watching him, and everyone on that stage, with my parents. Wonderful laughs!!
Love comedy. I'd love to see more of this roast also. Don was such a beast.
So hilarious!! 🤣
I saw Foster Brooks when he was doing a USO show in Japan. He was a great entertainer. Enjoy The Journey - Cheers
One of the best actors ever and one of the best TV shows back in the day..
You never knew what he was going to say but he was clean. No foul language nothing but respect
OMG all the goods comedians at the table! Was the good time, allthough I was very very young!
There are a number videos of Foster Brooks roasting, they are all good.
I grew up watching these guys. It was very funny.
Foster played the best drunk character!!!
Must have seen this at least 20 times, know the script almost perfectly but laugh every time.
Lets Gooo! He plays the best drunk ever without having a drink 😅Great reaction and Peace out Steven ☮️ ✌️ 🙏
This bit is THE classic example of how to do comedy. They should use this bit in comedy school.
As others have pointed out, Foster Brooks was a teatotaler. His drunk act was his signature. He even played drunk in cameos on shows like Adam 12. His roast of Hubert Humphrey as his political advisor is absolutely hysterical.
Classic. Love it😂!
the roast of lucille ball, hubert humphrey, jimmy stewart, rowan and martin, ralph nader to name a few
I absolutely love the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast. They were so fun and nobody got offended. It was back when everyone could take a joke. Love Foster Brooks

The Airline Pilot, and the Brain Surgeon.
He was a genius lots more from him
Foster Brooks is the only person I ever saw who could make Don Rickles laugh like that 😂. You should check out his roasts of Sammy Davis Jr. and Lucille Ball. Hilarious.
“This beloved superstar, Sandy Duncan Jr.”
The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast was a series of TV specials from the 1970s to the early 1980s. It was shown on regular networks, so guests couldn't curse much.

Foster was the best sober drunk there ever was!!!!
This is his act he was so good at it
Turning down the TV and laughing at the change in expression on the actors/actresses face was a real thing back then!
Foster Brooks is known for playing drunk...he does a great job
Him singing the 12 Days of Christmas is also uniquely his style.
Foster Brooks is awesome!!! He never had a drink in his life!!!
There are a TON of these “Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts” from the ‘70’s! Most of THE biggest names in show biz of that time!
Foster and his brother Cactus Tom Brooks are from Louisville, Ky Cactus was the clown on the local show T-Bar-V with Randy Atcher. Local history is worth researching, look it up!
This and “Don Rickles Roasts Bob Hope” are my favorites. Don gets mini-roasted in that one as well.
I first got to see Foster Brooks on Dean Martin's comedy/variety show back when I was a little kid. He was so hilarious to me. I grew up around a lot of real drunks, who weren't nearly as funny as Foster. All the time
The first time Foster appeared on Johnny Carson, it actually caused a minor scandal nationwide to the point that Carson had to have Foster back on just a few days later as his real self to prove that it was just an act
His roast of Lucille Ball is great too.
Amazing. I've never seen him break character.
If you love this you will die hearing Foster Brooks 12 Days of Christmas
Foster said the secret of his act was not that he was playing a drunk, but a drunk trying to act like he's not drunk. We've all been there.
Watch the airplane pilot sketch he did with Dean Martin. It's the best skit ever.
That was Foster Brooks own bit as an actor, he popped up all over the place on TV in the 70's and the Dean Martin celebrity roasts were must see TV back then, always many laughs to be had AN NOBODY WAS OFFENDED
You gotta watch more Roasts.
💯
As someone mentioned earlier, you should do Foster Brooks playing an airline pilot on the Dean Martin TV show.....You will enjoy it.......
Foster Brooks’s whole bit was acting like a drunk. Nobody did it better.
Sober as can be, gotta be one of the best comedy drunks ever. Watch Foster Brookes roasts Sammy Davis Jr.
He didn’t start show biz till he retired from being a judge
Foster Brooks roasting Sammy Davis Jr is even better
Next should be Peter Falk on the Frank Sinatra roast
Both Foster Brooks and Don Rickels were regulars on the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast, and Foster always played the drunk but would always took on a different persona, Dean Martin's old scout master, Jackie Gleeson's doctor, Chairman of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commers when they roasted Sammy Davis Jr. Great reaction
Foster Brooks, best drunk that never drank.
He did drink at one point but quit when he was younger.
So good you thought he was drunk😂
😂🤣
Foster Brooks plays a drunk better than a drunk does.
@@pugowner1347 🤣😂 💯
Foster Brooks never drank but man was he ever funny!❤❤ he was on Dean Martin's variety show. Hilarious 😂!
Foster Brooks was one of a kind
Foster Brooks quit drinking in the 1960s on a bet and never drank again. He became a supporter and spokesman for Mother's Against Drunk Driving. He was a frequent guest on the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. He was always funny, but just did the one bit, with different references, so after the Dean Martin show ended, so did his career.
Foster Brooks is known at the lovable lush. If I remember correctly Foster's act is him imitating his alcoholic grandfather.
Foster Brooks hailed from my own hometown of Louisville, Kentucky (where he appeared on radio and TV for decades before his national career took off). His regular speaking voice (the drunkenness was always just an act) is as close as you can get to an ANSI standard Louisville accent. (The actress Jennifer Lawrence being another, living, example.) What’s up Alan! Go Cards!! 😁
You should do every Foster Brooks video you can find. He did skits on the Dean Martin Show.
Craft maker of Velveta was the show commercial sponsor. The 60’s was known for the drunk acts.
Foster Brooks plays a drunken character
Foster Brooks got stopped by a police and was charged with drunk driving. Let him go when he found out it was a act.
Great reaction! Foster Brooks is one of my favorites. Take a look at this one. Dean Martin, Ken Lane & Foster Brooks - The Bar/Airline PIlot. Have a great day!
He made a better drunk than an actual drunk !!! Fantastic entertainer 😃😃
😂🤣😂
Also look up PROFESSOR IRWIN COREY. And PAT PAULSEN. These are older guys who 'arrived' on the TV and Hip scene in the mid to late '60s.
His act is that of a drunk. My brother was on an international flight back in the early 70s and Forest was sitting in first class. As a joke, they put him on the intercom. He was pretending to be the pilot. When everyone found out it was him the whole plane couldn't stop laughing.😂😂😂
😂🤣😂 Hilarious!!
Dean Martin (the guy in the beginning introducing Foster) would show up unannounced on the Late Night Show with Johnny Carson. He also sang one of my favorite "oldies" songs, "Houston."
One time he told the story of a guy who went ice fishing. He came home with 200 pounds of ice. Then his wife cooked it and they all drowned!
🤣😂🤣
These celebrity roasts were on network TV, NBC, so the language was clean. The jokes did have some suggestive content sometimes. But in a situation like this the performers are all just kidding each other.
So many years ago, but still hilarious.
My favorites to watch on this show were Foster Brooks, Rich Little & Ruth Buzzi. They were always funny. You will see nothing like this on tv today unless they use tons of cuss words.
He was a regular on the Dean Martin show
He did a couple of bits with Dean Martin add one of them was a airplane pilot and the other one was a surgeon it was funny
Watch the one where he's a airline pilot
You should see him on the Dean Martin show. Dean is on the left.
He doesn't even drink; he's just funny
