The chord voicings came did but the melody was from the Bee Gees. That’s why they’re the only listed writers-they guided Blue Weaver (their keyboardist) through the chords they wanted him to play, but they still wrote the song. Though I do think Blue should’ve been given writing credits because his vision for the song definitely comes through in the specific chord voicings.
I really love the Rhord stuff on Bee Gees songs. This was one of my favorites as well as the keys on "Love So Right", really tasteful Rhodes playing like Richard Tee and Tom Canning (there are many others!)! It's a shame they don't publish these charts. i always wonder what happened to them. The Rhodes sound is unique. I do not look at it like a piano or synth but a keyboard in its own right i hope you can do the chart (accompaniment) for "Love So Right"
That was really beautiful!. I prefer just the accompaniment as was played on the original, but I really enjoyed this! 90% of all keyboards on songs are accompaniment. I just love to listen o a keyboard player holding down a grove with some interesting chords and textures. It's amazing that Harold Rhods created this instrument for veterans and now it has become such an expensive instrument that vets cannot afford it! He has got to be turning in his grave! I wish I could afford one! Nice job!
Love it, You're Rhoads sounds fantastic, of course your touch and playing is fantastic as well. I had a Silver top in the 70's and later a Dyno My Piano modified one as well, I sold them both :-(
Thank you for your much appreciated comment Vic. I did the same and sold my first Rhodes a long time ago when the Yamaha DX7 synth crazyness came around. I got that 1973 Fender Rhodes three years ago and completely refurbished it. There’s nothing like the real deal !
Thank you very much Cato ! I didn’t use an amp to record. I used the direct output from the Rodes harp via a good quality preamp and through a phase pedal. Cheers.
mate, im loving this, i need to watch more of your videos. Any chance you could do another famous song played on the rhodes, queen's "you're my best friend"?
Hey, thanks for your kind comment ! "You're my best friend" was actually played on a Wurlitzer piano (the other famous electric piano, notably used by Supertramp). I'll put it on my list !
@@Smallbridge ah yes!! im really sorry, i saw an interview with brian may some time back, and i cant remember whether john deacon used a rhodes or a wurlitzer, but anyway, thank you so much!! love your work mate, i cant wait to see more, cheers from Australia!
Hi Kia, the Fender Rhodes is an electric piano that was popularized in the early 70s. Its typical sound is made by the hammers striking metallic tines which vibrations are amplified through individual pickups, just like a guitar having the strings vibrations caught by the pickup. Google it to learn more. Thanks for watching.
That sounds awesome, the first time time I've seen the inside of a rhodes lol
Thanks ! Yes, seeing the "guts" of the Rhodes is funnier than just the top of the lid...

There’s just something acoustically appealing with the sound of the Rhodes. It just sounds warm and cozy. I can imagine me sleeping to this.
Yes! I was actually about to fall asleep playing this ! Thanks for watching.
You took the words right out my mouth.
Lovely! As I understand, the melody came largely from the Bee Gees' long time keyboard player, Blue Weaver. You do justice to it, sir!
Thank you so much for your kind comment.

Wish I could hit those 10ths so effortlessly.
Thanks for watching. Some 10ths are really challenging to hit, like C# maj ! It all depends on the topography of the keyboard.
I have been working on this particular arrangement for quite some time now, and I have large hands...indeed the 10ths are quite challenging haha
I absolutely LOVE the distorted sound of the bass lines too!!
Glad you dig that !
Great performance! The best so far on the web congrats! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you for your much appreciated comment Marco ! 😄
What a lovely Rhodes !! - Well played & such an true sound.
Thanks so much Mike !
Beautifully done. I hope to learn to play half as good as you . Great rendition on the Rhodes
Thank you ! I'm sure you will. Good luck with your music.

I did the same thing, Mine was the Roland D50, I even sold a Yamaha CS80, and my main instrument is the bass :-)

Hey Johnathan, thanks !
small stone?
nice sweet sound.
I have small stone 70' ealy version too.
Thank you ! Yes, small stone phaser. The other valued phaser effect for the Rhodes was (and still is) the MXR phase 90, notably used by Steely Dan.
i hear waoo whoo waoo whaoo wahhh wooo
Yes !! What you hear is the small stone phaser pedal expressing itself ! You have to know the waoo whoo language …
Very beautiful and very well played! What amp are you using?
Thank you very much Cato ! I didn’t use an amp to record. I used the direct output from the Rodes harp via a good quality preamp and through a phase pedal. Cheers.
holy crap can you reach two octaves with those hands??
Ha ! No, my best splits is reaching an 11th. However my hands are more those of a farmer than a pianist's! Thanks for watching.
awesome! did you include a phase shift pedal on the rhodes? like styx babe?
Thanks so much ! Yes the phase shift pedal used here is a Small Stone pedal .
Hey there - is that a phaser I hear ? Any other effects used on this track?
@@MikeVidler Hi Mike, yes it’s a Small Stone phaser pedal and just some reverb. Thanks for watching!
Very nice. I play this in G though.
Thank you Andy. Eb is the original key but I'm sure G brings another flavour.

It's a Mark I Fender Rhodes Stage model made in September 1973 which I completely refurbished.
