Very nice set up in your off grid cabin, I have been thinking about a small fridge or freezer with power to run it with the solor option along with ac. appreciate you listing your items . you are very well stocked . I shall buy freeze dried foods . and research water filters . You have been a huge help with examples .
good video, lots of good tips for a cabin setup. I would make a suggestion regarding the fire extinguishers: don't store both of them right next to your fuel storage or heater, as those are the things that are most likely to be on fire, and if the fuel is already flaming, you don't want to be jumping into the fire area in order to retrieve your extinguisher. I would place one by the door and one in the corner opposite of where potential fire may occur, near where you sit/sleep, where you spend most of your time. that way you can start fighting a fire right away, in case something caught fire while you were working outside. but also have a 2nd extinguisher deeper inside the cabin, for when you are inside and you need to stop the fire or at least get to the door, if say fire started when you were asleep.
Nice to see you to see you nice Vanessa back up into the cabin showing people how things work and keeping things safe stay safe and stay healthy one life enjoy blessed be
Hi! I'm new to your channel. Thanks for sharing about your preps. I'm from North Carolina, USA and we went through hurricane Helene recently. It destroyed much of our power grid and water system. This definitely tested my preps. My Jackery 1000 power bank was the only way I kept my food from going bad.We were without power for at least a week or more for many of us and water for much longer. Thankfully, I enjoy camping and had several cooking and lighting options similar to yours. I had water stored up thankfully. It took almost a week before anyone came to bring supplies. Our government did very little in the beginning. Our community and civilian relief agencies helped each other the most. I have recently bought several solar powered lighting sources to help light up the outside due to it being so dark at night when the power isn't working. That gives added security. Thank you again for the information on prepping you share!
This video is a powerful reminder of the importance of being prepared. It’s not just about survival; it’s about peace of mind for your loved ones. For the peeps in the comments, what steps are you taking to ensure your family is ready for the unexpected?
Thorough video with plenty of items to talk about, but in a emergency situation what would you do with the empty packets , wrapping, tins and bottles in a emergency situation movement maybe difficult or if your hiding you could give away yourself getting the rubbish away . ❤Vanessa.
Incredible video. Crisis preparedness and prepping is more important than most people know. You are very inspiring Vanessa. Danke! Edit - Also: I am from USA and speak English but my family says “Bon Bon” when referring to candy because as Cajuns, French language is always present in their form of English ❤ Außerdem: Ich komme aus den USA und spreche Englisch, aber meine Familie sagt „Bon Bon“, wenn es um Süßigkeiten geht, denn als Cajuns ist die französische Sprache immer in ihrer Form von Englisch präsent.
Fire entinguishwrs, there are more than one or two type. Dry powder for fuel and solids, co2 electrical and coputor systems, aff foam for solid and other fires, water for solid fires and ofcourse a fire blanket for most aplications like chip pan fire. Dont just rdly on one or two, have a few different types.
@kurtsteiner8384 Type A for wood, paper, (anything that makes ash) Type B is for oil, grease, fuels Type C is for current or electrical Type D is for flammable metals Type E us for gasses
I think the best bugout shelter would be a root cellar, an underground shelter that is naturally insulating, basically dig a hole in the ground and build a roof covered with dirt. Will also protect you from radiation.
The only thing I'd swap out is in your food storage...swap the brown rice to white rice, as the brown rice spoils quicker. Its the same with Pasta too. Everything else is absolutely great, very well thought out. The radios, I'd go for some higher powered ones with a removable antenna. You can then if needed swap to a different coax and a better external antenna. Trees and buildings, hills etc can knock your signal down. Line of sight is the main rule, with no hills and trees etc, you can get the lower powered radios to work over great distances. The reason for boosting the power is for any distance runs you might need to make and with more power and an outdoor antenna, your signal and audio might carry further and people might help you, but they will definitely think you are more local to them than they actually are...they would be searching for ages to find your location. If they hear smaller radios, they will know that you are close by. I use Baofeng radios for portable use, aftermarket RT771 antennas and I use 2 metre/70 centimeter radios and can connect a Diamond X30 antenna or for even longer range the X510 antenna. A real SHTF situation, comms is very important and very much overlooked. Things like food runs, scavenging runs etc, you need to be able to reach your HQ if needed....the smaller ones, amongst trees...they will be fine for close comms. Hope this helps and gives food for thought. Loving this subject in todays uncertain climate
OMG, after watching your video, I forgot to leave a comment under this video 🙁. An inexcusable fault from myside. Thanks a lot for sharing this video, Vanessa. Even repeatings after a long time or here on your international bushcraft channel will help a lot of people to manage a crisis ( only by remembering details in your videos ).
Don't forget about the animals that can assist in your survival. A horse, dog and cat can really help you out. They need food and water too. Ride a horse and you can't leave human footprints behind.
I wish to suggest some Himalayan salt or Celtic salt because they both have over 82 nutrients which will cover nutrition deficiencies your food may miss. It’s also an inexpensive way to add critical nutrients as well as a teaspoon of honey per day which can keep you alive every day when food runs out. Excellent video! 👍
90 days of supplies for all the individual needs is the very basic everyone should have, unfortunately I've seen a lot of people still mocking or saying stupid things about prepping and I kinda lost my interest in trying to wake some people, most seems dormant in denial. Nice video btw

Hello! My mother used to tell me “in German there is a saying for everything”. If you think of one of those classic German sayings that you can apply to your video, please say it. I know that I would enjoy it very much, I imagine that many would.
Good video. Long term food is really hard for us. My wife has so many food allergies that it's nearly impossible to find prepackaged meals that she can eat, even many canned soups and foods have stuff in them that she's allergic to.
The worst crisis I experienced was a bad snowstorm that downed electricity transmission lines and blocked rural roads for 10 days. It wasn't nice. Now I'm ready to face something like that for 30-40 days, in relative comfort. I diversified as much as I could. For heating we use an oil furnace. For cooking I use a very large propane tank, that lasts one year when full. We also have a fireplace, so we can also use wood for heating. There's a generator (gasoline or propane), a battery charger and a small battery bank, and an invertor that should power the oil furnace, the fridge, some chargers, lights. Our cellar is cool and dry all year long, we store a lot of canned and dried food that we use for day-to-day cooking, we replace regularly what we consume. There's bottled water for months that we keep replacing as we drink it, and a few hundred gallons of rain water that I collect for gardening. I'm also counting on the cat to provide fresh meat every day :)
@@Mrgoofyoops That part was humor. Although the cat does bring home mice and rats every day, so in case of famine... I don't know, anything may happen.
I like your cabin. There is a danger that someone else may stay there as a squatter that you did not invite! Stay armed to defend what you have. I am working on digging into the ground to put a greenhouse in and adding a room for keeping potatoes cool and out of the light. A compost heap, solar gain and chickens should keep it warm year round. Since it is just myself at the moment, that could be my emergency shelter. I could rig up a hammock and a small wood stove just make sure in the winter months.
What a nice bug out cabin you sure are prepared. I like the outfit you are wearing what is the brand name of the pants and sweater and do they make them for men? Splendid video!
For longer term food storage get the kitchen tool that lets you seal food in a plastic bag. You can store small amounts of rice and also dry beans they will last for a long time dry and sealed in a plastic bag. But who the heck wants to buy a 50 lb sack of rice? Haha
Vanessa is the cooking with fire issue a law issue in the forest is it a fire hazard? In any case it's good to have the means to use fire if it became the last option you had you have to be able to cook even if it was ultimately illegal like if there were no means to get fuel. If you have a backup means to cook over fire I would suggest keeping a rocket stove handy very useful and you can use it with small twigs and branches from the ground you don't even have to cut anything from the trees.
I live in a small northern town in Ontario, Canada I am impressed with the food you have but I can't buy that in my town is there a place online I may purchase those products?
