I have both the Anker MagGo 622 and the Apple MagSafe battery pack. The Anker is heavier, bigger, and gets uncomfortably hot while in your pocket charging your phone. The Anker’s edge is also straighter so it also digs into your hand while holding it with the phone. It also doesn’t have the software integration, so the phone will still download updates while charging with the Anker, making the device even hotter. These type of wireless battery packs are mainly meant to be battery extenders, not chargers. It’s meant to be left on your device for extended periods of time to act as a second battery until you’re able to recharge. Since it’s attached to your device for extended periods of time, it needs to be comfortable to use. I have both and I prefer the Apple MagSafe battery because it’s lighter and smaller and doesn’t get hot and the edge is more rounded so it’s much more comfortable to use, not to mention that it charges much faster than the Anker when plugged in, which is when it is used as a charger instead of a battery extender. That means the Apple MagSafe performs better than the Anker as both a battery extender as well as a battery charger so the higher price is justified.
Yes is very true I only got the apple and was thinking of getting the mag go mainly for wired charging only. Because I sure as hell won’t use it wirelessly as it will kill the battery with the heat. In the long run you’ll probably pay more with a replacement battery down the road.

Just upgraded from the XS to a 13 Mini, so bought this for when I'm out and about, and to trigger standby mode when I'm home. I'd originally got a battery bank more like Apple's own, but returned it in favour of this much more useful one.

A weekend getaway with this, iPhone 13 Mini , that small puck to charge Apple Watch and forget about bringing wires and adaptor? It will be a stretch given how much we tend to use GPS navigation while away from home. Perhaps a 10,000 mAh pack will free us from wire for a good two to three days. I can only dream!

Great video, is it okay to use it in nightstand mode every night or will it ruin the battery?
There’s a new version of the 622. no overheating anymore! And you can stand it up while charging with the cable. But you have to turn it on for charging and you can turn it off 😊
The button does turn the 622 on and off so you can have it on standby turning it on with a quick press. If you hold the button down the lights go out and it stops charging.
I’ve had mostly older comments saying it doesn’t work for them and newer comments saying it does! So I think Anker did a sneaky revision to add this to the 622 since I posted my video - as this just doesn’t work with mine! Thanks for watching and commenting Richard! ✌🏻

No, the MagGo is the same unfortunately! It doesn’t properly wirelessly charge older, Non-MagSafe iPhones.
In my use it will wirelessly charge my iPhone X for a few seconds and then just stop. It charges fine when wired however. Thanks for watching!✌🏻

what happen if charge the magsafe with a usb c cable.. does it charge the iphone at 7.5 Watt? (which can be useful if you are charging it overnight) and also the powerbank?
The MagSafe Battery can charge the iPhone at 15w, but only if you plug it in to a 20w charger to use it like a wireless charging pad. And it will charge the phone and battery together!

Does iPhone get uncomfortable hot while being wirelessly charged? I’m on the fence about buying, however, bit worried about heat though.
The MagGo does get noticeably warmer than the Apple MagSafe Battery due to its faster charging, but I wouldn’t say it’s uncomfortably so. Not in my usage yet anyway! Maybe go for the Anker PowerCore or MagSafe Battery which charge cooler if you’re concerned about heat ✌🏻

This Anker doesn’t have MagSafe charging logo when charging, other brand e.g: UAG / Cygnett has it.

How does the battery pack look like on the 13 or 13 pro. Does it overhang like on the 13 mini?
It fits fine on the 13 & 13 Pro. It lines up with the sides and bottom of the phone. It doesn’t overhang off the bottom like it does on the 12/13 mini ✌🏻

What power block are you using to charge the battery pack?
I use whatever really! My Apple 29w USB C charger or just whatever I have to hand!
how well does it work with a non-magsafe phone, pre iPhone 12 or androids for example?
I struggle to get it to wirelessly charge older or not MagSafe phones for more than a few seconds. But it will charge them absolutely fine using a cable.

Yep! You can use the 622 to charge pretty much anything via a USB cable, including an iPhone 11! ✌🏻

Not sure why you said it's always on. When you can simply hold the power button for 2 seconds to turn it off. It's literally in the quick guide so I'm a little confused as to how that was missed?

Wasn’t possible on the first version! Since my video Anker did a revision adding the ability to turn it off. They’ve also released other versions of the 622 with the C port on the side, no folding stand, and a grip on the back. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻

No reverse charging unfortunately! Apple has restricted that only to their own MagSafe Battery ✌🏻
How does MagGo handle dissipating heat?
I’ve found the MagGo will get warm when wirelessly charging your phone (like all wireless chargers). But it doesn’t get too hot and it does cool down fairly quickly after use ✌🏻
It isn’t nearly as cool temperature wise as the MagSafe battery pack but from hearing other people longevity wise, the maggo probably will kill your battery a lot faster due to the heat of the battery.

It would as a wired battery pack, but you wouldn’t be able to magnetically attach it. So you’d be better off just getting a normal battery pack! ✌🏻

How does it hold up the battery while not in use?
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand your question! The Magnets in the MagGo always stick to your phone whether or not the MagGo has any charge in it. If that's what you're asking? ✌🏻

Gotcha! Yeah the battery level holds up well when not in use. The battery is “always on” when attached to your phone, meaning you can’t stop it from charging your phone when attached. But once removed the LEDs turn off. There is some battery loss over time as with all batteries, but no more than I’ve experienced with normal battery banks ✌🏻
You can turn the mag go off with it attached. Hold the button down for a few seconds watch the battery charge indicator go off on the screen. Tap the button briefly to turn back on.
Does dirt easily stick to it?
No, the plastic is very smooth and easy to wipe down. The faux leather stand might get discoloured over time, only time will tell! I’ve not had any issues yet! ✌🏻

Mine gets warm when charging the iPhone too, warmer than the MagSafe Battery. This is because the Anker has a higher wattage and charges faster than the MagSafe (which also means it generates more heat!). But I haven't found it to be too hot or a problem so far ✌🏻

Great video! I have a question that no reviewers seem to be answering. Can either of the anker portable chargers be recharged wirelessly themselves? This is a make or break for me. If I still need a wired connection to recharge my portable pack, then I'm really not truly wire free.
No unfortunately! Maybe because of how much heat it would generate. Apple’s MagSafe Battery will reverse wireless charge from an iPhone that’s plugged in, but that’s the only thing close I’ve come across ✌🏻

Only Apple magsafe battery pack supports reverse charging, but thats not good enough for me as that takes more than 5 hours of reverse charging to charge your battery pack. Its only possible when you sleep with your iPhone plugged in.
Do I’ve to get a new cube to charge the Anker it’s self?
The Anker doesn’t come with a power brick, but you should be able to use any existing one you already have. Use a 12W or higher charger for the fastest charging speed ✌🏻

Why not make a smaller version for those of use who don’t carry an obnoxiously large phone with us? I love the compact size of my iPhone 13 mini but the battery like leaves a little to be desired. This charger would be perfect for me if it didn’t look so ridiculous when attached to the mini. Disappointing.
yeah that’s the unfortunate part. as i’ve done some research it sucks that only the apple magsafe battery pack really fits on the minis well.
I smaller version for the mini would be great! I guess Anker made a business decision to not make one though. Thankfully there are alternatives that fit better ✌🏻

Dose it work for iPhone 11?
It won’t stick directly to the 11 as that doesn’t have MagSafe. And I find it just won’t wirelessly charge non-MagSafe phones if you place one on it. It will charge an 11 using a cable, but then you’d be better off buying a non-MagSafe battery which would be more affordable anyway ✌🏻
How to use it as a stand only
You can’t unfortunately, there’s no way to turn the battery off. However Anker has a new, larger version - the MagGo 633, which can be turned off and used as a stand only.

It will charge it using a wire. But as the S21 doesn't have MagSafe Magnets, you'd better off picking up a non-MagSafe battery pack I think! ✌🏻
