    I have a 19 250fx, I have had it for just over a year and love it more and more all the time, I'm big so I had suspension done put a throttle tamer on it and a 52 on rear, also having a steering stabilizer put on it as we speak, perfect for everything I like to do

    Awesome bike indeed!!,if uou dont like the snapiness at bottom,load up the smooth map,it makes a big diffrence, but thats rider preferance. I own a '15FX and a '20 125X(play and trainning bike),good video man

      Thumbgas thanks buddy I appreciate it. I started playing with the maps, but I figured out that my forks were to stiff. The spring rate was right but the valve stack was way to stiff, causing all the arm pump, which I thought was from the snapiness of the bottom lol!

    Which bike do u think is more fun to just play around on? And what is the maintenance cost like between the two?

    • @terrywilson1362
      @terrywilson1362 3 года назад

      It may cost more to rebuild a 4 but how often do you have to do it? Not very often, maybe o ce over the life time of the bike, as long as you take care of it right

    Which bike are you faster on the FX or the X? What’s the advantages and disadvantages of these two choices?

    • @prestongardiner177
      @prestongardiner177  3 года назад +1

      Probably the FX. It’s got a lot more torque than the X did. It’s just easier to ride. I don’t have to ride it near as hard as I did the X to keep up a good pace. I do miss how light the X was, and of course the sound and smell of the 2 stroke

    • @thepatternforms859
      @thepatternforms859 3 года назад +2

      @@prestongardiner177 yeah. I gotcha. I’ve asked several people this question and they all say the X is light and fun feeling but that the FX is faster lap times, easier to ride, and handles way better. They say the FX likes to be pushed really hard and the faster you go the better. Whereas the X is an older design, less R&D, less traction, more vibration etc… sound about right?

    • @prestongardiner177
      @prestongardiner177  3 года назад +1

      @@thepatternforms859 that’s pretty much exactly right. I kinda struggle in slower more technical stuff on my FX but when you pick up the pace it’s a beast. Seems to be more stable than the X, possibly because it is heavier and not near as much vibration as the X

    • @thepatternforms859
      @thepatternforms859 3 года назад +2

      @@prestongardiner177 suppose to be faster and easier to ride for longer races too. The X is not great in wet slippy off camber stuff but the 4 stroke is suppose to hook up much better. The only down side is the heavier feeling when going really slow in the mega tight stuff… I guess that’s just the trade off… I actually just spent several months thinking about which I want… a 2022 YZ250X or a 2022 YZ250FX… after talking with like 20 people it was pretty clear that the FX is the faster and better bike… 250X is super fun (light and powerful) but when comes to race day everyone said the FX is the bike of choice… yesterday I put down my deposit on a 22 YZ250FX. Should be here between October and Christmas we think… so I guess merry Christmas to me! ::)))) I have a 300 XCW already I might keep for the slower stuff

    Does the FX feel much heavier? Isn’t it like 50 lbs heavier than the 250x?

    • @prestongardiner177
      @prestongardiner177  3 года назад +1

      Only time it’s noticeable is in tight, technical trails. I don’t notice it at all once the speed picks up.

      @@prestongardiner177 I’ve heard so many people say that but the weight increase is crazy. I need to ride one for sure. Seems like the 2 stroke X would be more flickable and aggressive and fun?

      michael anderson I’m pretty happy with it! Bike is absolutely awesome when in 3rd gear or above. I’m not quite used to the engine break when in 2 gear since I’m used to riding 2 strokes, but other than that it is an awesome bike! If you have a 250x I would recommend riding an FX, you might want to get one if you do!

    Where are you riding

    2 strokes make about 1.6x more power and torque than the same size 4 stroke. A 250fx has just over 20 ft/lb and low 40 hp. A 250x has nearly 35 ft/lb and high 40 hp. Now the 250x is quite rich and needs the carb jetted but once that is done your good. I perfer the 2 stroke but I like this 250x too. Just because it is a faster bike dosent mean it is a faster ride.

    • @easternyellowjacket276

      The 250x most certainly does not make 35 ft/lb of torque. More like 27/28 ft.lb. I know because I am buying one going from an RMX 450 to the 250x and I wanted to make sure it makes the same torque, which it does. The 250x is 40lbs lighter than my 450, so it will feel much more powerful, too.

    Why did you make the trade... can you give me a pros and cons between the two

    • @prestongardiner177
      @prestongardiner177  5 лет назад +4

      Austin Birchall I bought the 250x because I wanted a 2 stroke because that is what I’m used to riding. There was a lot of hype about how amazing it was, I didn’t know anyone that had one so I didn’t get the chance to ride one before I bought it. After riding mine for awhile you could buy a 2006 or newer YZ250 and have the same bike after a few add ons. I liked the bike don’t get me wrong, but there isn’t enough difference to pay that much more money for one. The 250FX is a totally new design, so you’re not paying for an outdated design. The Main thing I like is the 250FX has a electric start. The 250x does not. The 2020 model 250x doesn’t have one either. The 250FX is also way more powerful than the 250x is has an unreal amount of torque and good top end power as well

      I agree.
      I have the yz250fx as well and it's an amazing bike. Good for tight tecnical as well as GNCC type racing. I even took it to the Baja and in six gear it still pulls.
      Another thing I love is it lugs down low without flame out, not like other models that are prone to.

      Preston Gardiner there’s no way the fx has more power than the x probably just never rode it at higher rpms

    • @prestongardiner177
      @prestongardiner177  5 лет назад +3

      Austin Birchall don’t ask for my opinion and then tell me I’m wrong. You have obviously never rode a full injected 4 stroke. The FX has 4 times the amount of torque than the X. Go watch my old videos of the X. When I ride a 2 stroke I ride it in the hit, I never had any problem riding my X all day like that. The very first ride on my FX I was so pumped up from the amount of torque it has right off the throttle that I almost couldn’t hang on.

      @@prestongardiner177 I had the 06 yz250 and it had a lot of power. I do know the x is dumbed down alot in comparison to the one I had for sure.
      I think the x would be a great bike if they did a wide ratio 6 speed as the gearing is the same as the 06 to 2019 yz250s and a starter would be good.
      The fx is my first 4 stroke ever but I absolutely love it. I raced a 2017 KX450 a week ago and won. I could not believe it.
      Maybe my recluse helped...???
      This bike is a woods weapon as well. I find the faster you go the suspension gets even better.
      I'm at 180 hours and have had the valves checked twice and they are spot on. No issues yet.
      I would recommend this bike to anyone.
