I really disapprove of the plastic bottle switch. A big part of why I bought them was the glass bottle, it was a very tactile aspect of the brand. Luckily you can still (sometimes) by the cases with glass bottles.
There's another podcast, partially written by the company man and Robert Smith from NPR's Planet money and some random dude talking about how switching to plastic was the more environmentally friendly option. And why they did that

That can come down to a matter of preference, I actually think it's a major advantage to give them a chance over other similar products, I often stick a bottle of some type of soda or Brisk (Which was briefly hinted at with mention of Lipton entering the premade iced tea market) in the little side compartment things in my backpack, and I tend to avoid glass bottles because sometimes the bottles can fall out and I'd rather have a plastic bottle that I can rely on not to shatter in the event it falls.
Somehow Snapple tastes better with the glass bottle
Most products actually taste better when they come in glass bottles. The same thing happened with coca cola, the glass bottles give the drink a much better flavor. Plus they look nice
@@davidkonevky7372 I don't know but, even Coke that comes in a plastic bottle when poured in a glass cup tastes better.
Agreed
Someone should do a comparison. Try blindfolded “glass snapple” and “plastic snapple” and see if it really does effect the flavor or if it is a mind game of quality
@@madide3978 Plastic bottles also have an acetaldehyde lining, which can transfer into the flavor of the drink giving it a slight “plastic-y” taste. While this taste is hard to avoid.

When I was younger (teens) my buddies and I drank a lot of Snapple. We kept our caps and when we got together you had to have a Snapple cap on you, otherwise somebody could "snapple check" you by pulling their cap out and popping it. If you didnt have a cap on you when they called you, you owed them a snapple, if you did theyd owe you a snapple. Was a fun game. I still have my original snapple cap from those days.

Snapple was part of the whole 90s era for me. Goes along with CDs and crystal Pepsi and all those other weird 90s things.
I feel frutopia or surge do it for me. Snapple still exists so it doesn’t really remind me of be 90s all that much.

I can't stand the plastic bottles. It affects the taste.
Mike Case it's also bad for the environment
@@verycherryberry3752 yup, but you know, it's the consumers fault for the trash, even though they forced the whole country to change in the 80's from glass recyclable bottles to plastic, since it's easier and cheaper, yet they keep the price the same, oh look a prime example: Snapple.
there's only so much the average person can do to keep trash off the planet, or burning coal from power plants powering electric cars.
as far as im concerned, we've done our part, now we're just waiting for those greedy big companies to also do the same.
VeryCherryBerry Actually, plastic bottles are more environmental friendly. In the US they don’t recycle glass anymore, because it cost more to recycle than to make one from scratch, therefore most of the glass are shredded and used as landfill cover. Plastic in the other hand, can be recycled much easy and actually turns a profit, plus many state introduced plastic bottle taxes so that people would be more likely to recycle it.
@@FedericoLiuYang that's interesting

I stopped drinking Snapple when they raised their prices. I mean, 16 oz bottle cost $3? And Arizona cans are still $1 and still 23 oz.
You should do a video on Quaker oats. Were the oats ever made by Quakers?
According to Wikipedia there were never made by Quakers:
"The company has never had any ties with the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). When the company was being built up, Quaker businessmen were known for their honesty (truth is often considered a Quaker testimony). The Straight Dope writes "According to the good folks at Quaker Oats, the Quaker Man was America's first registered trademark for a breakfast cereal, his registration taking place on September 4th, 1877."
No, no, no. The oats were never made by Quakers, they are made out of Quakers (prototype name was soylent white).
Dying! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
PepsiCo, Inc. owns Quaker oats now.
@@Ron-fl3oq Definitely people.
I think it's clear: the switch from glass bottles to plastic bottles hurt Snapple the most.
And even here and now I don't see them 8n shelves anymore just big gallons instead of different bottles with different flavors. RIP.
Ah, the Snapple lady! I loved those ads.
My mergers and acquisitions professor showed a video of yours in class the other day as an intro. I instantly knew i wanted more. I've binge watched about 12 hours of your content, and as an OG youtuber whose perspective has been marred by the toils and trials of law school, i must say that your quality and succinctness make you extremely underrated! From what i've seen, you perform great research on companies that often try to hide behind public relations campaigns that attempt and uphold an ideal image. Great shit, keep it up!
Hey this gives an idea! What about Keurig? It would be interesting to see how the coffee pods blew up over time. Great video as usual, thanks for uploading!
Second this. Especially when compared to other brands hopping in the capsule coffee market like Nespresso, Tassimo. and others.
I third this. Keurig would be a good one
Keurig would do even better if they lowered their prices. I'm not getting one because it's too much money per cup to buy them. I have a four-cup coffee maker that I use and make three cups
as well as how the k-cup design won over the pod system that the Philips Senseo had going. Similar to HD-DVD vs Blu-RAY
3 years later and you wish has been granted!! Company Man finally did a Keurig video this week!
What I really miss about Snapple is how many different flavors you could get. Nowadays, you’re lucky to see anything other than kiwi strawberry, mango madness, and the teas.
I remember any time we went for a long road trip we loaded up a cooler full of Snapple for the drive. My favorite was the kiwi-strawberry.
I tried that flavor I think........I FRICKIN Loved it....
My favorite flavor is peach tea 😍

Fun fact- I have an addiction to Snapple!!
I have over 50 cans and over 30 glass jars
Here's my Snapple story: Back in the 90s in my teens, my aunt took my brother and I to the ice rink. After a really hard fall on my wrist, I decided it was time to quit and got a hot chocolate, which was painfully too hot. What did I do? I bought a Snapple Lemonade from the vending machine. In this society where people are moving away from sugary drinks, lead to Snapple's decline. One bottle of Snapple has 54 grams of sugar that's crazy .
As someone who grew up in the New York metro area and remembers the rise of Snapple, I can tell you that under their original ownership Snapple was a very 'New York' product. The Snapple Lady worked because embodied the New York culture of the company. The reason she was dropped after the company's sale is that Quaker wasn't sure about her appeal in the rest of the country.
Pfft...she's so cute.
I loved grape Snapple going up. Noting in particular that it was a treat because you had to go out of your way to find it was very interesting for how Quaker Oats blew it.
Unfortunately, as an aging, responsibility-laden adult, I realize that like most beverages Snapple is just sugar water.

Snapple was a big part of my High School era, where you felt mildly fancy hauling around those big glass bottles. It was the first really big break from soda that pretended it was healthy or artisan.
Fun Fact: Snapple released a 'Real Facts' board game a few years back.
There is still a lot of room for improvement with distribution. Snapple is one of those drinks I always look for and rarely see.
the local store at my college stopped selling arizona iced tea for some reason and it was replaced with something and it made me think of you video about them
Thanks for making this video. I was wondering what happened to Snapple just a few days ago... commercials for it were as common as GEICO commercials back in the 90s and early 2000s, but now I never see them or the product.
Snapple is alright, but if I'm buying premade I go for Arizona. Cheaper and tastes better. Usually I just make it myself though, with lipton tea bags.
Company Man: "Within another year they were up to fifty-three flavors."
Me: And now they're down to three of four. 😒
I remember when I was a kid and there were so many flavors. There was a grape one I liked and the lemonade.
Good video! I stopped drinking them when they switched to a plastic bottle. I loved the glass and always reused them for art projects and other things. (I was a teenager back then)
I'm just seeing Snapple come back to stores in Western Canada after being gone for several years. In the large retail store that I work at I'm seeing bottles Snapple replace the jumbo cans of Brisk and Arizona iced teas at the check out lane impulse rack.

You completely missed why it was growing so fast in the early '90s, The Rush Limbaugh radio program was just getting off the ground in NYC and early on Rush made Snapple the official beverage of his radio program and would drink it on air. Snapple was still a regional brand but because of Rush Limbaugh large cost to cost audience people were ready to buy as soon as it came to their town.

I love Snapple. I started buying only Snapple tea when I realized it's nearly the last bastion for SUGAR in tea. Arizona is good, but it has, HFCS. I avoid HFCS, so my options are supremely limited. Snapple in my opinion, is one of the healthiest teas on the planet.
So here in the Midwest and plains states (mostly, I think there were a few in CA) we've recently learned that Shopko - a big box store like Target or Kmart - is closing for good. It was a slow close and started with the news that their pharmacies were closing because the company is so far behind in paying their drug suppliers after years of trying to build themselves up as a major part of that convenience health market. It sounds like that was the one breeze that toppled the whole house of cards, and I'm finding the story fascinating. I actually live maybe two miles from the very first store in Green Bay, WI and maybe five miles from the corporate buildings in Ashwaubenon, WI, so we're being hit pretty hard here due to the closures. Last year's scramble for all of the local pharmacies to pick up Shopko's suddenly care-less customers alone was pretty spectacular to see. It may be worth a look for you.
