The reason why most people do not play this Symphony as fast as Latry is because THEY CAN'T. This is a wonderful interpretation, full of movement, enjoyable, and exciting to listen to. I've heard so many dreary renderings of this Symphony!
It’s not that technically difficult- the finale isn’t as bad as the first movement to play - far easier and this performance of normally a fantastic organist is rushed and there’s no expression between different themes - there’s a guy on his home hauptwerk organ who plays this far better in my opinion- I love latry but this was just rushed and expressionless- id expect this speed and expression of other organists not latry- widow couldn’t ever play the 5th/6th at these speeds due to the acoustics- I’ve played the very organ he did and there’s no way you play these works that fast or it’s gonna blur into one almighty mess of sound
QUEL TEMPO! au bout de 4 ans d'orgue je suis incapable d'y arriver bravo J'admire les interprétations de M.Olivier Latry c'est mon modèle auquel je n'arriverai jamais!
Sorry you folks who thought it was too fast. Thereis an old recording of Widor playing this as quickly. Interestingly he plays the toccata from no.5 much slower than most cotempora y organist.
Sad that the audio quality is so poor for such an obvious stellar performance of the Widor 6 which is seldom performed,. Larry has once again shown his virtuosity.
When did passing judgment on an organist's choice of tempo become such a popular sport? Certainly we all have our opinions in that regard. In this case, I found the Allegro slower than my preference, and the Finale faster than my preference. But my preference is just that: a preference. When I perform this piece, I play it at my preferred tempo. But Mr. Latry is one of the world's finest living organists, and when he chooses a tempo, I'm not going to question him. I know I certainly don't care for being questioned on my tempos (which does seem to happen quite frequently, usually by those who know just enough to be dangerous, but not nearly enough to be truly informed). Let us just remember that a musician is an artist, with a reasonable range of artistic license. Mr. Latry certainly did not breach reasonable bounds of artistic license in this performance. He simply chose the tempos that suit him, and that fit his understanding of the character of the movements.
Thank you for your words. "Too fast", "Too slows" means nothing. first of all : forget what you know, and listen, feel. This "Final" seems to me completely "credible". It's a vision of the piece. And, to be true, I like it !
Trop vite ou trop lent ne veut souvent rien dire... Où ? Quel instrument ? Quelle acoustique ? Olivier Latry joue simplement plus vite que d'autres, avec une fougue formidable.

Widor played the Toccata slowly because at the time of the recording he was more than 80 years old !
I would also recommend the version by Daniel Roth at Ste. Sulpice - amazing!
So would I!
I LOVE IT!
我が家のベビーはこの曲の最初10分くらいで寝てくれます。
Widor様、Latry様に感謝です!

Well said.
As Monsieur Latry has been known to say, "Forget about the score. The score means nothing."
I LOVED it all... tempos and EVERYTHING... LOTS of DRAMA!!!!!
According to whom????
Sometimes, I think he's just trying to train a new page-turner!
as if he has written it himself...
This shows Olivier Latry at is magnificent best. Shame about the 'hairdo'.
indeed inspired, but... too quick!
Poor Widor...
Too fast!
